Lang Says Players Could Take Action If NFL Refs Issue Continues

| DETROIT (97.1 The Ticket) On the long flight back for the Green Bay Packers following the team’s 14-12 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, players debated going on strike or taking a knee on every play in upcoming games if the replacement referee issue isn’t solved. That’s according to Packers guard TJ Lang, a Royal Oak native who issued an infamous anti-NFL Tweet after the game that said “** It NFL. Fine me and use the money to pay the regular refs.”
|
Comments: Take a knee on every play. Now THAT will get the fans' attention and ire.

The NFL brings in 10 billion dollars in revenue per year. The holdup is 5 million a year to the retirement fund. Damage done to the NFL brand last night, a lot more than 5 million. This is stupid. I'd love to see teams take a knee and play two overtimes for a tie. The networks and sponsors would have a meltdown.

Something has to be done. Wonder if the refs on strike put up an actual picket line at the stadiums if the players would cross it? One union supporting another has a long history in this nation. Anymore people aren't watching game for the game they are watching for what the refs will do or not do and the players are getting away with stuff they never could with the regular crews.

Like the regular refs don't screw up, badly?
Like when Brady's arm was NOT going forward against Oakland, and a billion other blown calls. In fact regular ref Huckuley (sp?) apologized for a blown call.
Like Green Bay didn't "get" calls in their favor on the last drive alone?
Like if GB could play decent football they wouldn't have to worry about last minute goals?
Like the current refs aren't counting on union busting to roll the league?
Pension plans are poison pills. Give 'em a 401K and have them pay into it, like the rest of us.

The average NFL player makes about $100,000/game while the average (union) NFL ref makes $1,000.

Last night's game sure gave the referee's union a whole bunch of leverage. It sure looks like it's in the league's best interest to settle this thing soon.

1- Refs are part-time employees making a 6 figure income.
2- The issue is not pay, it's pension. They want to keep their defined benefit plan and the owners want to switch to a defined contribution plan, and 401(k), that the refs then own and manage.
3- See #4.

The Commish should man up and fire them all. Then move on with new refs -- the game will survive as did the air traffic system after RR fired all of the controllers.

I heard somewhere it was over $150k a year plus pension and benefits for 20 days of work a year plus travel. I could be wrong; I don't believe everything I hear.
The real refs aren't so great anyway. And I could care less. I really haven't watched football since they let Michael Vick back in.
And besides the Seahawks were cheated out of a Superbowl victory by "real" refs. KARMA.

Fellas - if was easy, everybody would be doing it. Those that say they're overpaid - you do realize all the training that goes into it, right? And I mean continuously through the season. For all the billions the NFL makes, this surely isn't about money. Baseball did the same thing in 1999, and that bit MLB in the backside, especially with their ham-handed approach. I am the LAST guy that would want to side with any union - but the product is suffering right now, due to the poor officials. Most of these officials work small college and high school - they are WAY out of their league.

William Strickland waited for his grandfather to step out of his South Side home to take his paratransit ride to a kidney dialysis appointment early March 2, authorities said Saturday — then stood behind the 72-year-old man, shot him six times in the back and stole his wallet, leaving him to die just steps from his home. Prosecutors said Saturday that Strickland, 19, used the money he took from his grandfather, who also was named William Strickland, to pay for new gym shoes, a cellphone and tattoos. The teen had no criminal history but was an admitted gang member, they said.

Justice Carlos Lucero wrote on behalf of a three-judge panel of the 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. A year ago, as the Baltimore Ravens under coach John Harbaugh and San Francisco 49ers under coach Jim Harbaugh advanced through the NFL playoffs, there was talk of a potential brother-vs-brother Super Bowl – a “Harbowl,” as some sportswriters had begun calling it. Roy Fox of Pendleton, Indiana, is an ordinary football fan who had an idea: make T-shirts and hats with the word “Harbowl” on them, and sell them for some extra cash in case these brothers did ever meet up in a future Super Bowl. Mr. Fox remembered how Lakers Coach Pat Riley famously made money by trademarking

Washington - Less than half the number of inauguration visitors who came out in 2009 are anticipated when President Obama is sworn in for the second time Monday. But that won´t stop security from being just as tight - only this time, with some improvements. And even with the smaller crowd, if you want to get to the National Mall on Inauguration Day, you´re probably better off not driving. The hundreds of thousands of people spilling into the nation's capital Monday are encouraged to travel by rail, bus or bicycle. They´re starting to grow out, get a little irritating.´ Still, she hasn´t let her hairdo woes get her down. ´It´s okay,´ she said after her initial complaint. ´We´ll be good.´ The first indication that her hairstyle was becoming a burden came about last weekend, when Malia, 14, was spotted adjusting her mother´s hair during the White House Easter Egg Roll.

Recent research indicates that the number of people who do not consider themselves a part of an organized religion is steadily on the rise. Interestingly enough, though the number of those religiously unaffiliated is increasing, there is little to no trend in the number of those who express atheist or agnostic beliefs. People aren’t saying they don’t believe in God. They’re saying they don’t believe in religion. They are not rejecting Christ. They are rejecting the church. This begs the question, “Why are we losing our religion?”

Gluten-free diets are all the rage, but they can be dangerous if not done right. What is gluten? It´s the spongy complex of proteins, found naturally in wheat, rye, and barley, that gives elasticity to dough and allows it to rise. When flour is moistened and either kneaded or mixed into dough, gluten molecules form an elastic, microscopic latticework that traps the carbon dioxide produced when yeast ferments, causing dough to inflate like a hot air balloon. Baking hardens the gluten, which helps the finished product keep its shape. Wheat — and gluten — is ubiquitous in the American diet.
