Romney Should Offer Presidential-
style TV Addresses

National Review, by Deroy Murdock

Original Article

Posted By:Judy W., 9/25/2012 4:24:14 PM

Newsmax editor Chris Ruddy has an excellent idea that could help Governor Mitt Romney win this election: He should deliver several televised, 30-minute national speeches on his major proposals. These should resemble presidential addresses. Governor Romney should sit behind a flag-flanked desk, stare right into the camera, and speak specifically and reassuringly about each of the Romney-Ryan campaign’s five key reform planks: (Snip) Ruddy got the idea for these Oval Office–like orations after speaking with Michael Reagan. The son of America’s 40th president recalled that his father overcame the Left’s caricature of him as a dimwitted, wacky cowboy.

Excellent idea, but I might not use the big desk, look for something a little more modern. Maybe one of these CSI-style CNN newsroom kind of things with lots of big screens. Or maybe not. But still not just a desk.

It's not only an excellent idea, I think it's something he has to do. He has to get away from the msm bias and WH bs and talk directly to the American people. The debates aren't enough.

Comes to mind when obama was wanted to know where his office was for Pres-Elect. Gov. Romney doesn't need to pretend he is gracious, composed, intelligent or "presidential". He needs to take a stand and take it to obama and lay the facts and truth at zippy's feet, stay on point and hammer away.

So, how would that work, Romney goes to the networks and requests air time?

Reply 6 - Posted by: whyyeseyec, 9/25/2012 4:42:37 PM     (No. 8889618)

This is a great idea but the alphabet channel Big Media types will not carry a 30 minute Romney speech. They are propaganda arms of the DNC/Obama WH. Don`t know how much of a national audience the cable channels can garner.

Reply 7 - Posted by: Photoonist, 9/25/2012 4:47:08 PM     (No. 8889626)

Exceptionally expensive and the major networks would refuse to carry it thus its reach would be limited. Thus while perhaps a good idea because of its informative potential it would not be cost-effective.

Romney would go to the networks and buy time. Obama did it in 2008 with his 30 minute infomercial.

Reply 9 - Posted by: Cleanhousein2012, 9/25/2012 4:48:06 PM     (No. 8889631)

I doubt there are many real undecideds. You are either a zippy supporter, a Rome y supporter, or a Ron Paul/libertarian supporter. Or you just don't care at all and probably won't vote.

At this point, people will use the debates to change their position if they desire to, but otherwise, people are either going to vote for Obama, or against him. If against him, for the GOP candidate or the libertarian candidate? No one is walking into this election undecided.

Reply 10 - Posted by: abstain, 9/25/2012 5:03:25 PM     (No. 8889657)

Thirty minutes is too long.

Reply 11 - Posted by: DARling, 9/25/2012 5:04:36 PM     (No. 8889661)

He would look like a pretentious fool, like Obama did after the election. Don't take the bait, Romney.

Not to mention that most people have the attention spans of gnats, so thirty minute speeches would be wasted.

Romney needs to do well in the debates, and put out some kick-#$$ ads. Every time Romney looks good, the press says he made a "gaffe." People who are undecided will watch the debates and make up their own minds.

Reply 12 - Posted by: Az Roadrunner, 9/25/2012 5:06:07 PM     (No. 8889665)

15 minutes sounds about right. He should also be passionate in his tone and not sound like a droning politician.

This morning I was going through my emails and had several from Newsmax. After reading the headlines of the stories I said to myself, "Newsmax has become a nonentity, lame."
This suggestion proves it. Ruddy's suggestion is ridiculous, a joke as others have pointed out.
I have full confidence that Romney knows what he is doing. All of the pansies in the GOP, (mostly men BTW), need to go on vacation until the election if they can't stand the heat. What a bunch of cowards.

Reply 15 - Posted by: King of all trolls, 9/25/2012 5:41:28 PM     (No. 8889733)

This is stupid. The problem is not that Mitt doesnt seem presidential and no one likes a pretender. The problem remains that people insist on voting for the popular guy even though he's screwing everything up.

People who have not yet made up their minds about who they are going to vote for are not going to watch a 30 minute speech.

--I agree 100%. I saw an article the other day and in the article a female voter stated she had not "decided", and I thought to myself, the only people who are undecided at this point are just waiting to see if their unemployment benefits, or food stamps get cut or extended.

People are looking for a reason to vote for Romney, and he hasn't given it to them. He needs to engage directly -- an ad with him talking directly to the camera, with some humor in it.

One of the core functions of government is to defend the nation from all enemies, foreign and domestic — that’s part of the oath of enlistment that all service personnel take. But only a flinty, clear-eyed — and politically incorrect — assessment of all threats can enable the military can do its job. Today, however, the brass at the Pentagon seems hell-bent on turning the world’s most powerful military into an arm of the PC Police, a fresh field for “politically correct” bureaucrats on which to push their morally blind relativism.

A battle has been brewing in the Republican Party for some time, long before President Obama was re-elected this past November. On one side is the big business Washington establishment represented by K Street lobbyists and the Chamber of Commerce. On the other side are populist, main street, grassroots conservatives represented by the Tea Party and Heritage Foundation President Jim DeMint. Few issues divide the Republican Party more clearly along these lines than immigration reform. And this week, the battle just got ugly.

(Snip) AmSpec: In the book you have a definition of “multiculturalism.” Can you talk about that and its implications? Sowell: The central premise of multiculturalism is that no culture is superior to another. The proponents of this draw conclusions such as it is wrong for school teachers to insist that black kids from the ghetto speak standard English. The idea that no culture is superior is another fact-free premise. If you look at the actual history of any society, they borrow from other societies.
