Akin Fiasco is Newt’s Last Stand

| Today is the last day that Republican Senate candidate Rep. Todd Akin can get off the ballot in Missouri, but there is no indication that he will avail himself of the opportunity. Akin, who turned himself into a national laughing stock with his notorious comments about rape and pregnancy, appears poised to flush his party’s once bright hopes for picking up a Senate seat down the drain. But he isn’t alone. Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who was otherwise coming to grips with the obscurity that comes from being a presidential primary also-ran, has become Akin’s loudest supporter these days.

Akin may not be the party's first choice, but you have to fight the war with the army you have, not the one you wish you had. Isn't that what ''they say?''

Akin's efforts may be a lost cause, but Newt sees the big picture value in trying.
It's time to un-circle the GOP firing squad and go after the Senate.

WHEN Akin wins, I hope everyone who ever jumped ugly on him- as proxy for the LEFT- remembers what they did and said.
And is NOT surprised when he will NOT caucus with us on matters of great import.
Lifetime A.C.U. rating of %97.24. DECADES of TRUE conservative service in Congress.
Steven Pagonas and the Duke Lacrosse team understand PERFECTLY what he meant by "legitimate".
You'll toss this guy under the bus, and scream Christie's "Conservatism" from the rooftops.

Akin is a stupid selfish moron, the reason he was abandoned is he's poison to the republican brand, and could effect other senate races if he wasn't rejected by the party. If this was just about MO, it wouldn't be that big of a deal. Akins appeal is only to social conservatives, that's not enough to win elections.

Akin was the victim of a political hit. He wasn't very wise walking into the trap, but it was a trap. We should be supporting him.
He was fundamentally correct: If women can get an abortion only when they were raped, the number of false accusations of rape will increase. If a fetus is a person, that doesn't change when that person was conceived via rape.
I know. That's a hard case. Which is what Akin said. But other than the silly non-sense about the body preventing pregnancy (which may be somewhat true, but would be a slight decrease in the odds rather than a near-foolproof solution) he was on-spot for the answer to the gotcha question.
I bet from now on he will be more careful how he approaches hostile reporters.

Actually, Newt is precisely the type of figure who needed to enter the fray and give Missouri a shot, and I would hope that isn’t coincidence. The GOP has officially cast Akin aside for the “good of the party” and have painted themselves into a corner. Who better to take up the cause than Newt? The media can’t hurt him, he has big name recognition, the ability to bring in financial assistance and literally nothing to lose as this article points out.
Right now, McCaskill has one comment by Akin on which she can run. Akin has his record AND McCaskill’s record on which to run. If Newt can pull in some financial assistance without it appearing to come from the national GOP, Missouri can become completely winnable.

If Akin should, by some miracle, win his election, he'll be a pariah when he gets to DC. He might as well join the Democraps now and be done with it.
No conservative Republican is going to come near him with a 10 ft. pole and his career is essentially over, even if he takes a seat in Congress.
Best thing he can do is to resign for "health" reasons as soon as ethically possible.

Akin will not drop out today.
So.. those of us in Missouri have one of two choices... either Akin...or McCaskill.
It is that simple. If you are mad at Akin...do you really want to have McCaskill in power..in power for 6 more years.. that's right.. for 6 more years.. a Senate term.
If you love Obamacare..vote for McCaskill.
If you feels Obamacare is a danger to your relatives and to the health of our country..then vote for Akin.
It comes down to that.

Several quick points:
1) Toobin's animosity toward Newt Gingrich is the primary theme in this article, not Todd Akin's chances to defeat Sen. McCaskill.
2) Why didn't Toobin also mention that Mike Huckabee remains strongly supportive of Akin?
3) If we Republicans don't support Akin, we're giving Harry Reid a CHEAP and UNDESERVED victory in the Senate races.
4) And the Dems can use money saved on the Missouri race to help defeat us elsewhere.
5) But guess what? I got an e-mail from Sen. Jim DeMint's SCF this morning with a survey asking whether the SCF should support Akin. I not only replied with a resounding YES! but also promised to ante up some funds when Akin is added to the SCF stable.
6) In Missouri, if we don't support Akin, it's automatically Obama's rubber stamp, McCaskill. At the national level, if we flag in our support for Romney,....
7) If you have any financial resources beyond a reasonable living amount, iff you have any shoe leather or voice left in turning out the Romney/Ryan vote...it means you didn't do enough for the victory.
8) And you will be a BIG disappointment to John Roberts -- who left it for us to do.
And there are others looking on who will be devastated if we fail

The last poll had Akin behind by 6%. That means he's about dead even.
He's going to win this thing. DeMint, Newt and Huckabee are all supporting him. The Tea Party will turn out for him.

To many in our cultural elite, Woody Guthrie is an American saint. The legendary songwriter from Okfuskee County, Oklahoma, is introduced to every American child by way of his folk anthem “This Land Is Your Land.” But for gatekeepers of the arts, Guthrie is much more: All of his work—every song, every article, every poem—is good and honest and true, the gospel according to Woody. What other justification is there for the release of this deservedly long-lost novel? Completed in 1947 but only recently “rediscovered,” House of Earth is an incoherent polemic interspersed with erotic scenes and rambling descriptions

Looks like it’s Let’s Make a Deal time this month, except perhaps for budgets, at least for the moment. At the same time the Senate has cut a deal on gun control by, er, making the status quo slightly more muscular, the Gang of Eight has reached a deal in principle on immigration. ‘Comprehensive immigration reform,” a deal on which is reportedly imminent, has a lot of moving parts — too many, in truth, as with most “comprehensive” legislation. Among the costs of comprehensivism is that debate over such bills often gets bogged down in the many details. Americans seeking to evaluate any deal should ask three questions about it to cut through the noise. First: Will it encourage future illegal immigration? This has always been the greatest risk of proposals to provide legal status for current illegal immigrants: that it will be seen as a reason for others to come here illegally

How many federal agencies does it take to do catfish safety inspections? At least three, according to the Government Accountability Office, which on Tuesday released its 2013 report on fragmentation and duplication of federal programs. This year´s report -- there were two previous editions of the report first requested by Sen. Tom Coburn, R-Okla. -- documents an estimated $95 billion in duplicative programs that waste precious tax dollars. That brings the three-year total of potential savings documented by GAO to $295 billion. Having three agencies doing catfish safety inspections may strike some as funny, but there is nothing to laugh about

Obama said America needs to start enrolling 4-year-olds to make sure the children are “better prepared for the demands of the global economy” and to help parents save on "child-care costs." After saying the United States needs to “equip our citizens with the skills and training” to fill jobs in manufacturing, energy and infrastructure, Obama said, “And that has to start at the earliest possible age.”

Margaret Thatcher had more impact on the world than any woman ruler since Catherine the Great of Russia. Not only did she turn around—decisively—the British economy in the 1980s, she also saw her methods copied in more than 50 countries. "Thatcherism" was the most popular and successful way of running a country in the last quarter of the 20th century and into the 21st. Her origins were humble. Born Oct. 13, 1925, she was the daughter of a grocer in the Lincolnshire town of Grantham. Alfred Roberts was no ordinary shopkeeper.
