| Mitt Romney is winning the battle for middle-class voters in the race for the White House despite a string of gaffes. With even some Republicans turning on their candidate, there is a general perception in Washington that multi-millionaire Mr Romney is out of touch with ordinary Americans who believe he will only help the rich. But according to a poll, he has a 14 percentage point lead over Barack Obama among middle-class families. Although Mr Obama leads by three percent overall in the poll, middle-class voters constitute 54 percent of the electorate and are the ultimate target group

Comments: Never mind the gaffes label--concentrate on three percentage points overall being within almost all margins of error!

Romney's "gaffes" pale in comparison to 0bama's in both quantity and substance. The media is constantly making excuses for 0bama's mistakes, mis-statements, and mis-adventures as if he is some mentally handicapped kid who is just doing the best he can and not the President of the United States. Well this is not the Special Olympics where everyone gets a hug no matter how they perform. This is the real world where people's lives, and families, and fortunes are on the line, and we can not afford a do-over President.

If Mitt has a 14-pt margin with the middle class, then show us the arithmetic which results in his 3-pt overall deficit. Right now, the math is fuzzy.

Quite right #12. In addition, we're so used to seeing overwhelmingly liberal or overwhelmingly conservative articles by the US MSM that we don't recognize an objective piece when we see it. This is objective, with its warts an' all. It says despite Romney's heavily reported foot-in-mouth moments, he's built a huge lead in the most important demographic--the middle class. It's actually a congratulatory piece, but some people just can't get past the "gaffe" label--which is the intention of the MSM.
That three percent difference? A poll's margin of error can be anywhere up to four percent. Perhaps even higher in some cases. Thus, three is within the margin allowed for error. To me it means the election is about 50-50 at this point. That's A Good Thing at this point in the game.

When he called dead soldiers "bumps in the road?" That one?
Had MR actually said that, it might well have resulted in a dramatic change in this election. But since it was just another one of Obama's endless series of boneheaded remarks and acts, it goes unacknowledged.

As usual we get more information about this election from England than we do from NBC. Our elite, pampered, urban, NYC, based, media owners, editors and pundits are to blame for the entire mess the US and really, the world is in. Instead of investigating, educating, illuminating or simply being even handed, they covered up for the democrats since Robert Byrd and ended up cheerleading for a fraud. While quick to shout out any rumor about the right, where someone put his feet in a bathroom stall or who mentioned the news that an outed CIA analysis was married to a liar named Wilson, they can't follow up who created the need for junk derivatives and the looting that followed. No one punished, revealed or connected to the left. As a result the world is staring up from a bottomless well of fabricated debt and we are being led by a community organizer.

The FBI has put a $5million price tag on the head of a former student at a British university accused of global terrorism offences. Ramadan Shallah, who gained a degree in banking and economics from Durham University, has been linked to bombings and raising funds for terrorism. He gained his degree in 1990 and then went to live in America but according to the FBI he still has contacts in London. The 54-year-old is believed to be living in Damascus with the full knowledge of the Syrian state, which is now suspected of using chemical weapons against its enemies.

Both 1st District candidates have had success raising money since the day the world awoke to the news that Republican Mark Sanford was accused of trespassing at his ex-wife’s Sullivan’s Island home. Democrat Elizabeth Colbert Busch leads the former governor in fundraising, especially when contributions from outside groups are factored in. She has raised roughly $85,000 in large donations in the days since April 17, including about $54,000--or more than 60 percent--that came from outside the district, according to the latest financial reports filed with the Federal Election Commission.

When the living Presidents of the United States get together--as they did last week to inaugurate George W Bush´s presidential library – it´s always the same question that lurks unspoken beneath the layers of obligatory magnanimity: "So, Mr President, how big is yours?" Not the library, of course, but the legacy. That´s what counts among statesmen of this stature. And in the case of Barack Obama--the only member of that elite club still with time left on the White House clock--the answer to the question remains open. It´s only natural that a sitting second-term president should find his

In 1897, British forces launched a bloody campaign against Pashtun tribesmen on the North West Frontier. [Snip] Winston Churchill was conspicuous riding a grey charger when the 2nd Brigade of the Bengal Lancers moved out from Inayat Kila at 6am and headed for the Mohmand Valley. He had bought his horse at an auction of the effects of a junior officer who had been killed earlier in the campaign. By choosing to ride a grey, Churchill was making sure that no one could fail to notice his endeavours were he to find himself in the thick of the action.

I went to a lapdancing club once and it didn´t end in divorce. Nor did my children weep bitter tears as to what had become of their father. Nor did the moral foundations of the world collapse. What happened was this: I went into a lapdancing club with some other blokes, saw some attractive girls showing off their rude bits, contributed through the medium of tips and drinks purchases towards their mortgage repayments/university education/summer holiday, and then, afterwards, I went home. The US economy expanded by 2.5pc in the first three months of the year, though a sharp fall in government spending and tepid growth in March meant the rebound from a lacklustre fourth quarter was weaker than expected. The 2.5pc annual rise in US gross domestic product (GDP) comes after growth stalled at 0.4pc in the fourth quarter, according to the US Commerce Department. However, the increase missed economists´ expectations for a 3pc rise. The first quarter expansion was driven by a 3.2pc rise in consumer spending, which accounts for around 70pc of US economic activity

Last year, the Department for Education asked a firm of accountants to trawl its vast pupil database and find the secret of great state schools. Deloitte had access to the records of almost half a million pupils, factoring in everything from postcodes to ethnicity.[Snip] When the results came back, the conclusion was extraordinary. The mind goes numb. Spanish unemployment jumped by yet another 237,000 people in the first quarter to 6.2 million, or 27.2pc. This is equivalent to roughly 8.3 million in Britain, or 39 million in the United States. The country is losing 3,581 jobs a day. There are 1.9m households where no member of the family has a job. As you can see from this graphic, the rate has reached 36.8pc in Andalusia, Spain´s most populous region. The national rate of unemployed youth is 57.2pc, rising to 70pc in the Canaries.

A great speech today by former President George W. Bush, with a firm emphasis on the principles of freedom, both at home and abroad. Unfortunately, freedom is a word which doesn’t feature very prominently in the lexicon of today’s US administration, with its obsession with big government and the growing role of the State, as well as a propensity to appease dictatorial regimes on the world stage and ignore the plight of political dissidents in places like Iran. In Bush’s words: My deepest conviction, the guiding principle of the administration, is that the United States of America

The unfailing reverence on the American right for Ronald Reagan is understandable. He was the only exemplar of modern conservatism to win the White House, and unlike liberal icons such as Roosevelt or Johnson or Obama, he presided over an economic boom and became beloved by voters not normally drawn to his party. No wonder that Reagan, long before his death in 2004, attained mythical status in the conservative movement and the Republican Party. But that myth has become a burden for the modern GOP. It has bound Reagan’s followers on the right to policies and positions that were

The new logo for the University of Connecticut’s sports teams is a terrifying husky dog that calls to mind images of sexual assault, says one student. The new logo was unveiled last week, receiving mixed-to-negative reviews from UConn fans who preferred the older, cuter husky dog. But one student went much further, criticizing the new, meaner logo for being a pro-rape symbol. In an open letter to UC President Susan Herbst, self-described feminist student Carolyn Luby wrote that the redesigned team logo will intimidate women and empower rape culture. UConn basketball coach Geno Auriemma said the logo

At the White House. By himself. No press or other intruders allowed. That Obama assumed Americans would want an iconic photo of him privately mourning the victims of the bombings was emblematic of a kind of hubris that has enveloped the president and his White House as the president commences his second term.

Unlike you, federal government officials are immune from charges of fraud. The executive branch, vested with all of the government’s prosecutorial authority and discretion, is not going to investigate its own operatives for carrying out its own mendacious policies. That is the story of last week’s Boston Marathon bombing and the frantic efforts of the bombers, the brothers Tsarnaev, to evade capture, shoot it out with police (two of whom they killed), and — we’re now told — detonate more bombs in Times Square. The Times Square non-attack is quite interesting.

In retrospect, George W. Bush’s legacy doesn’t look as bad as it did when he left office. It looks worse. I join the nation in congratulating Bush on the opening of his presidential library in Dallas. Like many people, I find it much easier to honor, respect and even like the man — now that he’s no longer in the White House. But anyone tempted to get sentimental should remember the actual record of the man who called himself The Decider. President Obama´s weekly remarks: Hi, everybody. Our top priority as a nation must be growing the economy, creating good jobs, and rebuilding opportunity for the middle class. But two months ago, Congress allowed a series of automatic budget cuts to fall across the federal government that would do the opposite. In Washington-speak, these cuts were called the “sequester.” It was a bad idea then. And as the country saw this week, it’s a bad idea now. Because of these reckless cuts, there are parents whose kids just got kicked out of Head Start programs scrambling for a solution.
