| Greece was hit by a news blackout yesterday as the country's journalists became the latest group of workers to go on strike in protest against new austerity measures. The 24-hour walkout meant there were no radio or TV news programmes yesterday, and newspapers will not appear today. Tomorrow, most services across Greece will come to a standstill, as the country's two biggest unions stage a general strike against the €11.5bn cutbacks. The strike is expected to close schools, disrupt hospital services and stop trains and ferries. This week's walkouts follow protests that brought workers – from tax officers to university

Comments: WE should be so lucky. But I can see it, 0bama loses, the press whores go into morning and hysteria for a few hours over night and come back wearing black armbands and on the attack of Romney by dawn.

If the Greek press is anything like ours it certainly is no loss. Does anybody in Greece work?

Tax the rich, #2. That includes making the rich Germans (all Germans are rich) pay for the privilege of holding Greek debt.

I don't think it matters that much if th older media turns off. The journalists might be surprised.
Messing with hospitals and emergency care will matter. People need care. Transportation matters, food must move to market. The public schools - who knows?
Keep digging. Worse is better. Up is down.

I have been to Germany, and it's very similar to US suburbs. People owning houses, taking care of their houses, working hard and taking care of families. It's too bad we had to fight the Germans; I found them good people in the late 1980s and 1990s.
It shows us that good people can be led to disastrous results by bad people. We have Bad People in charge right now.

When you're a government leecher, whether in a union or welfare, you don't care how they come up with the money. If that means a full collective assault of pockets of wealth,so be it.
These clowns have no concept of creating new wealth in order to get budgets in line, etc. You have all these blue states in this country that will blindly vote for Obama, figuring is worse comes to worse,he'll come up with a bailout.
Europe's waiting on an American bailout themselves, either through the IMF or World bank. These banking entities would rather lend the money to 3rd world dictators and forgive the loan, months down the road.

We at Townhall have been covering this hotly contested Senate race for months and the results are finally in: With 36 percent of precincts reporting, Elizabeth Warren has been declared the next junior Senator from Massachusetts. Warren has never held public office before and the eye-popping $40 million she raised this election cycle evidently proved more than enough to unseat incumbent Senator Scott Brown. This was the most expensive Senate race of 2012 -- by a long shot.

CNN’s Peter Hamby reported that Mitt Romney‘s internal polling showed President Obama leading in Ohio by five percentage points.Per Hamby’s post: The number represented a sharp final bump for Obama in Ohio, a race that had essentially been a tied race through much of the previous week, according to the campaign’s daily tracking. The polling, which also showed a tight race in Pennsylvania, explains why Romney officials decided to send their candidate on last-minute Election Day visits to Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

The Obama and Romney campaigns may be gearing up for a very late night, with one Obama campaign adviser predicting that in Florida alone, "they'll be counting until 2 a.m." The Obama adviser said signs suggest the race is quite tight, though the campaign claimed to be "holding strong" in key battlegrounds like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. The adviser also said turnout among black voters in Virginia was better than expected, suggesting that could be a problem for Mitt Romney. Republican operatives in Virginia, though, predicted a razor-thin victory for their candidate in the state.

Washington - Early returns on Tuesday in what is anticipated to be a dead even presidential election contained no surprises, as CNN projected President Barack Obama will win his home state of Illinois and eight other races while Republican challenger Mitt Romney will win nine states. All races called so far went as expected after the roller-coaster ride of an election campaign that was buffeted by a superstorm and missteps on both sides. Obama and Romney ran dead even in final polls that hinted at a result rivaling some of the closest presidential elections in history, reflecting the deep political

A week after Hurricane Sandy slammed into the East Coast, a majority of voters said President Barack Obama’s response to the crisis wasn’t a factor in their vote, according to early exit polls. Fifty-five percent of those surveyed, per CBS News’ early exit polling released by radio station WKZO in Kalamazoo, Mich., said Obama’s handling of the storm was a minor factor in their vote or wasn’t a factor at all. Twenty-six percent named Sandy as an “important” factor, and 15 percent said it was the “most important” factor in their decision.

Mitt Romney is leading among independents in both Ohio and Virginia, early exit polls show. In Ohio, the former Massachusetts governor takes 56 percent of self-identified independents, compared with 40 percent for President Barack Obama. That’s a huge decrease for Obama from 2008, when the exit polls found him winning independents in Ohio by 12 points, 52 percent to 44 percent for John McCain. The numbers are similar but slightly tighter in Virginia: Romney takes 53 percent of independents there, according to ABC News exit polls, a 12-point lead over Obama. In 2008, Obama won independents in the state by

Mitt Romney and President Obama each racked up early and expected victories Tuesday night in relatively safe territory, while some of the biggest battlegrounds that will decide the election remained too close to call. All the big swing states where polls have closed -- Florida, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia and North Carolina -- were too close to call, Fox News projects. (Snip) Obama will also win three of Maine's four electoral votes, Fox News projects. It is unclear where the state's fourth electoral vote will fall. So far Tuesday the former Massachusetts governor has taken other reliably red states including Kentucky and West Virginia. Romney leads in the Electoral College with 24 electoral votes to President Obama’s three.

As expected, the presidential race is tight in Ohio, where the polls just closed: President Obama is winning women 55 percent to 44 percent in the early CBS News exit poll, while Mitt Romney is leading 52 percent to 46 percent among men. Women made up 51 percent of the electorate, compared to 49 percent among women. Thirty-nine percent of voters so far identified themselves as Democrats, compared to 30 percent calling themselves Republican. Thirty-one percent identified as independent or something else, and Romney has a big edge among this group - 56 percent to 40 percent for Mr. Obama.

As expected, Republican candidate for President, Mitt Romney, won West Virginia’s five electoral votes in Tuesday’s General Election over President Barack Obama. National media outlets called the race in West Virginia shortly after polls closed at 7:30 p.m. President Obama’s fate in West Virginia has never been in question, as he garnered just 60 percent of the democratic vote in the May primary. The other 40 percent of that vote went to Texas federal inmate Keith Judd, who was placed on the ballot in West Virginia. President Obama has been hugely unpopular in the Mountain State since he first ran

Early exit polls show Election Day voters are slightly more Republican than in 2008 and broadly concerned about the state of the U.S. economy. Six in 10 voters said the economy is their top issue according to the poll, which was released by The Associated Press and conducted on behalf of a consortium of media companies. Less than a quarter of voters said their families were better off than four years ago — a point seized on by many Republicans as the results leaked out.

As a conservative, picking out things you don´t like about Barack Obama is kind of like pointing to the wettest part of the ocean. It also goes beyond politics. Not only is Barack Obama wrong politically, he´s not a good guy, "cool," or even moderately likable. To the contrary, he´s one of the nastiest, least admirable people in politics and he gets by based on a phony persona he created when he ran for President in 2008 -- along with the help of press corps liberals that work to protect him like

Of course, if the group of high-powered liberal billionaires and Democratic party fundraisers are successful in buying the Times, that’s just peachy with them. They are all totally oblivious to the riotous irony of opposing the purchase of a media outlet because they fear ideological contamination, while embracing a rival group’s effort to buy the paper who will ideologically contaminate the coverage anyway — except it happens to be an ideology with which they agree. That’s how to save “honest” news coverage in LA. HuffPo: As Tribune Co. emerges from a four-year bankruptcy, the predominantly Democratic

Last week I wrote specifically about the pitiful coverage of the Boston marathon terror attacks and the continual denial by the mainstream media of possible Islamic involvement. In a perverse way this dereliction of journalistic duty while reprehensible is understandable because the press lapdogs of this administration do not want to admit that Obama´s PC national security policies involving Muslims might have contributed to the Boston attack. We know the media is spineless. However its neglect to report on the Gosnell abortion trial shows that they have lost any moral compass they ever had just to cover up Obama's strong support of the abortion industry.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) says he shares colleagues’ concerns that the Affordable Care Act could become a “train wreck” if it’s not implemented properly. Reid warned that people will not be able to choose health insurance plans on government health exchanges if federal authorities lack the resources to set them up and educate the public. “Max said unless we implement this properly it’s going to be a train wreck and I agree with him,” Reid said, echoing a warning delivered last month by Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.). A series of official White House photographs brought together by Vanity Fair show the ´lean-back´ nature of Barack Obama´s presidency. The pictures reveal that Mr Obama often exhibits relaxed body language in stressful situations, with legs crossed and a knee raised. Most noticeable of all, the president often has his feet up on his desk. But this is not just any desk - the Resolute desk was given to President Rutherford B. Hayes by Queen Victoria in 1880. (Snip) Yet whether they are debating tragic events or vital economic policy, the president is often more reclined than those around him.

President Obama did not start the Syrian crisis, and the blood-soaked civil war has never lent itself to easy choices. In fact, the choices have always been among the hardest any U.S. president has faced in the region. Syria is more than a country, and its civil war is more than a brutal and bloody story of a dictatorial regime pulverizing a largely defenseless civilian population. Syria sits at a strategic crossroads and has for decades been the conduit of cash and operational expertise linking meddlesome Iran to the east with Hezbollah in Lebanon and Hamas in Gaza.
