Of America’s four national newspapers, only the New York Times’ editorial board is satisfied with President Obama’s plan to act on immigration reform without Congress. Obama on Thursday announced that he would issue an executive order to delay deportation for some 5 million immigrants now living in the United States illegally. “The president always has had authority to calibrate and prioritize the enforcement of immigration (and other) laws, but this wholesale reinterpretation amounts to overreaching,” the Washington Post editorial board said in response. “Mr. Obama was right to argue Thursday that otherwise law-abiding undocumented immigrants deserve a route out of

Back when Bill Cosby was the king of network television, veteran NBC employee Frank Scotti served as the royal fixer. When Cosby invited young models into his Brooklyn dressing room, the megastar’s pal stood watch outside the door. When the married Cosby sought a Queens apartment for another pretty face, Scotti arranged the deal. And when the man behind Fat Albert needed cash disbursed to his flock of single female friends — hey, hey, hey — Scotti became the conduit for payments of up to $2,000 a month. “He had everybody fooled,” said Scotti in an exclusive interview with the Daily News. “Nobody

President Obama, acknowledging he´s taken some political "dings" during his time in the White House, said in an exclusive interview with ABC News that the American people will want that "new car smell" when it comes to the 2016 presidential campaign, suggesting he may not have a prominent role on the campaign trail as the country prepares to select his replacement. "I think the American people, you know, they´re going to want -- you know, that new car smell. You know, their own -- they want to drive something off the lot that doesn´t have as much mileage as me," Obama told ABC News Chief anchor

Why Congress Can Impeach Obama

Now that President Obama has granted legal relief to as many as five million undocumented immigrants, Republicans are thrashing about for an effective response. Only a few hard-liners are talking about impeachment now, but more could join them out of frustration with their other options. Many people in both parties have tried to quell such talk by saying the president is within his powers to issue the order. The problem is, the pro-impeachment Republicans are right: There is a plausible case for taking that step. By constitutional design, impeachment for “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors” is a political

As time goes on, President Obama is becoming much more provocative with the GOP. For example, he met with congressional Democrats, but no Republicans, then announced his long awaited plan for executive amnesty, giving 5 million illegal immigrants a pathway to work permits and relief from possible deportation for 3 years. After getting shellacked in the mid-terms, Obama has not compromised with Republicans, he moved further to the political left. It was an audacious announcement that was both unconstitutional and confrontational. It circumvented Congress, and their vital role in this issue, and was, thus, radically different

Appearing on Meet the Press Sunday morning, Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) told NBC’s Chuck Todd that his GOP colleagues need to move on from the Benghazi issue, in light of a newly-released report by the House Intelligence Committee that found no intelligence failures. Todd asked Flake if Republicans should “drop the Benghazi conspiracy theories” after the new report cleared up some of the burning questions. Flake said that while he had been skeptical about how Susan Rice and the Obama Administration portrayed the attack at first — which the report concluded there were, in fact, issues with those talking points —

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on Sunday said Republicans are partially responsible for not passing comprehensive immigration reform. “Shame on us as Republicans for having a body that cannot generate a solution to an issue that’s national security, that’s cultural, that’s economic,” Graham said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” The Senate has passed an immigration bill three times, Graham said, adding that he “loves” his GOP colleagues in the House. “I’m close to the people in the House, but I’m disappointed in my party. Are we still the party of self-deportation?” he asked. President Obama in a separate interview Sunday blamed House Speaker

On Friday, we posted a Gary Varvel cartoon at indystar.com that offended a wide group of readers. Many of them labeled it as racist. Gary did not intend to be racially insensitive in his attempt to express his strong views about President Barack Obama´s decision to temporarily prevent the deportation of millions of immigrants living and working illegally in the United States. But we erred in publishing it. The cartoon depicted an immigrant family climbing through a window of a white family´s home as Thanksgiving dinner was served. I was uncomfortable with the depiction when I saw it after it was

NBC´s Chuck Todd on Thursday night found a new way to compliment Barack Obama. Politicking host Larry King asked the Meet the Press anchor if he "liked" the President. Todd quickly responded "yes" and added, "I mean, he´s very easy to talk to...You sit there and have these off-the-record sessions with him." The journalist enthused, "They´re just very nourishing conversations." [MP3 audio here.] Nourishing? Earlier in November, the anchor defended the President´s famous contention that "bitter Americans" "cling" to guns and religion. Todd mused that these attacks are simply Obama "observing the way an anthropologist would observe a society." In

The D.C. City Council issued a statement confirming Barry´s death. Barry´s family said the former mayor died shortly after midnight Sunday at the United Medical Center, after having been released from Howard University Hospital the previous day. Members of the militant New Black Panther Party have been arrested and charged with making straw purchases of two handguns and are believed to have conspired to detonate pipe bombs during protests in Ferguson, Missouri, according to several reports. Brandon Baldwin, who goes by the name Brandon Muhammad, and Olajuwon Davis, who goes by Olajuwon Ali, were indicted on Wednesday for making false statements in order to purchase two .45 ACP pistols at a Cabela’s in Hazelwood, just outside of Ferguson, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.
