President Barack Obama faced a tough crowd on Tuesday – American military veterans – and fell flat on his applause lines as he failed to win over the American Legion´s convention-goers. The 35-minute speech seemed to have reminded the audience of the stark divide between the White House´s policy choices and the feelings of the men and women often called on to carry them out. A Virginia legionnaire who served in the U.S. Marine Corps told MailOnline that ´a small group of Obama´s admirers – and there are some here – sat near the front and tried to generate applause

Texas Governor Rick Perry has reportedly aligned himself with two of the most infamous Republican establishment operatives known for trashing conservatives. Perry is working with Henry Barbour, whom conservatives want the Republican National Committee to censure for his group´s smearing of conservatives in the Mississippi Senate runoff, and Steve Schmidt, who has elevated his profile by maligning conservatives, especially former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin. Politico´s Maggie Haberman reported on Tuesday that Schmidt, the infamous hack from Sen. John McCain´s 2008 presidential campaign whose gamble to go "all-in" and suspend the campaign during the financial crisis turned up snake eyes, "has

The Environmental Protection Agency’s proposed global warming regulations aren’t just about stemming global temperature rises — according to agency’s chief, they are also about “justice” for “communities of color.” “Carbon pollution standards are an issue of justice,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy in a teleconference call with environmental activists. “If we want to protect communities of color, we need to protect them from climate change.” McCarthy is referring to the EPA’s proposed rule that would limit carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. The agency says the rule will not only help fight global warming, but will also improve public

American black people are being lied to and the lies destroy them. They are being lied to by corrupt people like Attorney General Eric Holder and Al Sharpton Jr. and Jesse Jackson and the leftists in our news media. They are being told that their poverty is due to prejudice and that the police are targeting them out of bigotry. They are being told that the dreadful existence of slum life grew out of slavery and is being perpetuated by hatred. None of this is true. Poor black people are poor because they have no family structure and get little education.

The White House is bristling at suggestions President Obama is disconnected, checked out or out of touch. White House allies maintain that the storyline of a checked-out president is a myth drummed up by the media during the summer doldrums. “It’s bullshit,” said one former senior administration official. “This is a guy who reads 10 letters a day simply to keep in touch with the American people. He spends all his time thinking about the economy and improving lives of the American people. He’s constantly in touch.” Obama has been criticized as out of touch by critics and supporters, with the subject

Our AJC colleague Nicholas Fouriezos passes along the following dispatch: The racial unrest caused by tensions over the shooting of black teenager Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo., could be a rallying cry for Democratic get-out-the-vote efforts, according to the voter education committee chair for the Democratic Southern caucus. “There is a story beneath the story in Ferguson,” chairwoman Janet May said at the Southern Caucus meeting during the Democratic National Convention in Atlanta on Friday. May ran through the stats of the 21,000-person Missouri town: 13,000 black citizens, about 7,000 white. Five city council members– one of whom was black.

Republican strategist and former John McCain consultant Steve Schmidt has joined the team helping Texas Gov. Rick Perry with the strategy around his indictment, POLITICO has learned. Schmidt is the latest addition to a team that Perry has been expanding with legal hands. (Snip) Earlier this week, POLITICO’s Mike Allen reported that Perry had hired former Clinton White House special counsel Mark Fabiani to a team that already included Republican lawyer Ben Ginsberg.

When a federal appeals court ruled last month that a seemingly arcane wording flaw in the Affordable Care Act should invalidate a central part of the law, many of those who drafted the statute five years ago reacted with shock and anger. In 2009, they had spent months piecing together a compromise that sought to create a national system of subsidized insurance — but one run by the states. Now, they fear their work could be undone by what some call a "drafting error" and others portray as a political miscalculation. The judges from the U.S. Court of Appeals for

Harvard Law School professor Charles Ogletree grouped the shooting of Michael Brown, who was fatally shot by a police officer in Ferguson, Mo., earlier this month, with two of the most monumental deaths American civil-rights history on MSNBC. Ogletree, a renowned legal scholar who taught President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama during their time in Cambridge, described the state of affairs following Brown’s funeral as being “just like the assassination of” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in 1968. “This reminds us of exactly what happened years ago when I was a young kid to the great man Emmett Till,

For many students, the unwelcome return to school is often sweetened with a shopping trip for school supplies and new clothes. Not anymore. As college, high school and grade school students begin returning to classes, the Environmental Protection Agency is urging students to use recycled material, even garbage, for their supplies and to shop at thrift stores for “retro fashions.” And don’t even think about taking more than one napkin or salt packet in the lunch line. “Buy smart! Purchase and use a wide assortment of supplies made from recycled products, such as pencils made from old blue jeans; binders made from old

The Minnesota man who died alongside fellow ISIS fighters in Syria was "not a terrorist," his cousin claims. Douglas McAuthur McCain died over the weekend in radical-on-radical clashes in Syria. He lived in California before he traveled to Syria earlier this year to join other Islamic State terrorists. But his heartbroken cousin only remembers a humble, kind man — not a militant. "We would never believe him to be involved in anything like this. He´s just a regular person." Kanyata McCain told NBC News. "My cousin is not a terrorist." She said McCain converted to Islam about 10 years ago. While he had a

The leftist media have inflated the ego of the current regime… It’s how you get a Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing noble or prize worthy. Vocativ was on Martha’s Vineyard over the weekend to film a piece about the African-American community on the island. While we were shooting on Beach Road, one of the busiest thoroughfares on the Vineyard, the Secret Service approached and asked us to switch off our camera for 15 minutes. A moment later, first lady Michelle Obama power walked by our crew. She was out for some exercise with a small group—and a serious security
