Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., predicted Tuesday that many Republican lawmakers will break from President Trump by June if he continues to push forward with his agenda. Schumer told "The View" that while most Republicans have declined to publicly break with Trump during the first month of his presidency, many privately admit they have "real problems" with him. He also argued that some are sticking by him because of party loyalty and his nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the late Antonin Scalia´s seat on the Supreme Court. "When you talk to Republicans quietly — in the cloakroom

An “antiracist” poster in a college writing center insists American grammar is “racist” and an “unjust language structure,” promising to prioritize rhetoric over “grammatical ‘correctness.´” The poster, written by the director, staff, and tutors of the University of Washington, Tacoma’s Writing Center, states “racism is the normal condition of things,” declaring that it permeates rules, systems, expectations, in courses, school and society. “Linguistic and writing research has shown clearly for many decades that there is no inherent ‘standard’ of English,” proclaims the writing center’s statement.

Nearly 15 years ago, I informed my skeptical father that I was pursuing a job with the Central Intelligence Agency. Among his many concerns was that others would never believe I had resigned from the agency when I sought my next job. “Once CIA, always CIA,” he said. But that didn’t give me pause. This wouldn’t be just my first real job, I thought then; it would be my career. That changed when I formally resigned last week. Despite working proudly for Republican and Democratic presidents, I reluctantly concluded that I cannot in good faith serve this administration as an

Calls to boycott Wegmans Food Markets, a popular supermarket chain, because it sells Trump Winery products have backfired on the Prince William County, Virginia, chapter of the National Organization for Women. A spokeswoman for Wegmans, a New York-based company, told Fox News on Monday that Trump wines flew off its shelves last week. Out of 10 locations, only its Charlottesville store did not completely sell out. (Snip) Calls for boycotts began with a story involving Prince William County’s chapter of NOW in The Washington Post published Feb. 14. “Certainly if Wegmans is carrying Trump wines, I personally will not shop

Chelsea Clinton took to the streets of New York on Sunday to stand in solidarity with the Muslim community and protest Muslim discrimination. Clinton brought along her young daughter Charlotte. (Snip) Linda Sarsour, a Muslim activist who is known for her vocal condemnation of Israel, gave a speech in which she discussed President Franklin Delano Roosevelt´s signing of executive order 9066, which put Japanese Americans in internment camps. A group of global investors with $11 trillion in managed assets told Texas on Tuesday not to enact legislation restricting access to bathrooms for transgender people, saying it is discriminatory and bad for business. The "Texas Privacy Act," or Senate Bill 6, has been marked as a priority for Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick, a Republican and conservative Christian who guides the legislative agenda in the Republican-controlled state Senate. He said the measure protected the privacy and safety of Texans. The bill on a flashpoint issue in the United States is similar to a law enacted last year in North Carolina

Anti-Trump activists have seized on Monday’s federal holiday to organize “Not My Presidents Day” rallies in cities around the country. Protest leaders say they expect thousands to take to the streets in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York and as many as two dozen other communities in the latest round of demonstrations to oppose the policies of President Donald Trump.  Some 13,000 Facebook users, for instance, say they plan to join a noon protest Monday near Manhattan’s Central Park. The governor of Connecticut is attempting to tap gun owners to help close the state´s $1.7 billion budget deficit. Gov. Dannel Malloy, a Democrat, has proposed increases to pistol permit fees. The five-year renewal fee for pistol permits would increase from $70 to $300, first-time five-year permits would increase from $140 to $370 and fees for background checks would increase from $50 to $75. The plan is expected to raise nearly $12 million per year in additional revenue, CBS News and The Associated Press reported. Gun-rights supporters and state Republican lawmakers said this increase would preclude many people from exercising

African Americans have run the White House kitchen as chefs, personal cooks, butlers, stewards and servers for every First Family for nearly one hundred and fifty years beginning with George Washington´s presidential term in the late 1700s. It was the black kitchen chefs and cooks who prepared the superb comfort food for the First Family and dazzled presidential guests with their cooking. Nearly every distinguished family in Washington had black servants, butlers and cooks in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Presidential families were no exception and there have been no less than 150 African Americans on the president´s culinary

The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), organized by the American Conservative Union, is regularly the most anticipated event on the conservative calendar. Although it has become increasingly circus-like in recent years, it remains the year’s foremost gathering of conservative activists, several days of speakers normally include leading officeholders, and it is considered a testing ground for prospective presidential candidates. Over the weekend, CPAC invited Milo Yiannopoulos to speak at this year’s event, happening later this week in Maryland. Of late, Yiannopoulos, a “tech editor” for Breitbart News, has been a regular guest on college campuses and a constant source of

The Democratic National Committee will choose its next leader on Saturday, and when it does it should choose a leader who will resist the pressure to pursue the wrong white people. (Snip) That is the white flight that should most concern the next D.N.C. chairman, because those voters make up a more promising way to reclaim the White House. The way to win them back is by being more progressive, not less. To be clear, all white voters matter. But Democrats must make tough, data-driven decisions about how to prioritize their work. Right now, too many are using bad math and
