It’s the final, tense days of 18 months of negotiations over one of the most critical treaties of modern times – the terms under which Iran will either be permitted or not permitted to obtain a nuclear weapon.t will be permitted to obtain one, but stick with me here. The president’s emissaries, led by his Secretary of State, are in Switzerland feverishly negotiating the final details, hoping to ensure the toughest bargain possible to prevent the advent of an historic new peril to the world: Nuclear weapons in the hands of Iran’s crazed Islamist theocrats. The president this weekend will

Seattle´s city employees will not be allowed to travel to Indiana for work purposes via city funding, the office of Seattle Mayor Ed Murray said Saturday. The news comes in the wake of law S.B. 101, or the Religious Freedom Restoration Act, going through in Indiana. In a release, Murray said ´Seattle has been a leader in the fight to protect civil rights and ensure equality for all people – no matter who you are, or who you love. This is why I am ordering that none of our taxpayer dollars should go toward supporting this discriminatory law.´ Scroll down

President Barack Obama may have become used to wearing golf shoes after spending the weekend hitting the links in the Sunshine State. The Commander-in-Chief, returning from a Florida trip where he played golf with wealthy donors, nearly took a tumble when exiting Air Force One on Sunday. He gave a wave to media before stumbling for a second and resuming his trot down to the tarmac at Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington. Obama kicked off the spring season at the resort where he once caused a stir by playing with Tiger Woods and had no official events scheduled. First

Last week, to much fanfare, Glenn Beck declared that he was leaving the Republican party and becoming an independent. During a Tuesday night appearance on the O’Reilly Factor, Beck explained his decision thusly: They surrendered on the abortion bill, surrendered on executive orders on illegal immigration, common core. They helped push through $3.5 trillion in deficits this last year. They won´t fight Obamacare. They voted to confirm Katz Unstein (ph). They thwarted the bill on the NSA data collection. They´re still not doing anything on Benghazi. They haven´t done anything on the targeting of conservatives with the IRS. They haven´t

This week, the Supreme Court heard arguments re Texas’s refusal to allow Confederate flags to be stamped on license plates as part of a “Sons of Confederate Veterans” design. I wouldn’t ask sons of Confederate veterans to disown their ancestry; in fact, my mother’s mother’s family was Southern, and four of my great-great-grandfathers fought in the Confederate army. And I know that lots of Americans sincerely see the Confederate flag as a symbol of states’ rights — particularly because virtually no Confederate soldiers actually owned slaves. But, personally, I see the Confederate flag as the symbol of men who, as

We learned this weekend that Hillary Clinton´s emails were deleted from the server. We also heard this week that the Chinese or Iranians may have them, or so said Bob Woodward. Frankly, we don´t know whether they are "blowing in the wind", "lost in space" or sitting in Peking for a convenient leak to a Western journalist. All three are rather frightening! Here is my bottom line: I am not a lawyer but this whole thing smells "muy feo" as we say in Spanish. First, she used a private server for her emails. She irresponsibly exposed her own schedule, even

If anyone had doubts about the mental health of the president and some of the other more visible people within the Obama administration, there can be doubts no longer. In the past few days Yemen has further erupted into explosive chaos and the long-known but finally admitted facts of Bowe Bergdahl´s desertion were announced. But his spokespersons, Josh Earnest, Marie Harf, and Jen Psaki, with blank, straight faces, still doggedly maintain that that Yemen is a "counterterrorism success" and that turning over five Taliban terrorists of the Taliban´s choosing in exchange for Bergdahl was a wise and wonderful plan.

When the news broke Saturday from the White House press pool report accompanying President Obama on his golf outing in the midst of world crisis, I filed it away (snip) someone forward of the press cabin ordered 3 beers at 9:26 am. Hmm, that’s pretty early to be hitting the sauce. Of course, we don’t know who ordered the beers. I suppose it is faintly possible that some underling didn’t mind drinking in front of the president as the day began. But then yesterday: The Commander-in-Chief, returning from a Florida trip where he played golf with wealthy donors, nearly took a tumble when

The Sunday-newspaper supplement Parade magazine lards on the Kennedy love today. The cover shows two of Teddy’s sons, Teddy Jr. and Patrick with the words “The Kennedy Legacy: The next generation carries on the family’s exuberant mission of public service.” Parade even touted their deep religious faith, with the headline inside: “Guided by the Beatitudes and the notion that helping others is both a duty and a pleasure, the next generation of Kennedys carries on the family’s public service legacy.” Online, the headline was "Growing Good Citizens." The occasion for this goo? They’re opening an Edward M. Kennedy Institute for

President Obama said Monday he supports the recommendations of a military commission that would reduce the size of traditional military retirement pay by about 20 percent and offer a new defined-contribution benefit for troops who leave before 20 years of service. In a letter to congressional leaders, Mr. Obama said the proposals are “an important step forward in protecting the long-term viability of the all-volunteer force, improving quality-of-life for service members and their families, and ensuring the fiscal sustainability of the military compensation and retirement systems.” Mr. Obama said he has directed his advisers to refine some recommendations, and that the

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned on Sunday the framework Iranian nuclear agreement being sought by international negotiators, saying it was even worse than his country had feared.Israel has mounted what it terms an "uphill battle" against an agreement that might ease sanctions on the Iranians while leaving them with a nuclear infrastructure with bomb-making potential. Tehran says its nuclear program is peaceful. "This deal, as it appears to be emerging, bears out all of our fears, and even more than that," Netanyahu told his cabinet in Jerusalem as the United States, five other world powers and Iran worked toward a

Things to Know About Muscle

Owning an old muscle car can be a lot of fun. But it’s not all fun — and you ought to know what you’re getting yourself into before you get yourself into it. First, some definitions. Muscle cars are old. Nothing new — nothing modern — qualifies as a muscle car. The defining attribute of a muscle car is not horsepower or performance. Nor that it has a V8 engine feeding power to the rear wheels. There are many new (and modern) cars that do that. And they are not muscle cars, even if some of them look like they might be (and
