Former President Jimmy Carter referred to the United States as the most “warlike country on Earth” last week during an interview with the nonprofit Aspen Institute. “I think the American superpower goal should be to the champion of peace, and to be the champion of human rights, and to be the champion of the environment and to be the most generous nation on Earth,” he said. “Those are the elements that I hope eventually the United States will set as goals. We are the most warlike country on Earth. We are laggard in addressing the problem of global warming, for

Are key Republican leaders in D.C. from the Senate, House and Supreme Court being blackmailed? Tell me you haven’t thought the exact same thing? Something is very wrong. Something smells rotten in DC. Rotten like a dead fish left at the front door of a Congressmen’s office by the Obama Crime Family. Rotten like a photo of a Supreme Court Justice with his robe down at his ankles. Because what’s happening just isn’t normal. Please tell me how it’s possible that President Obama and his socialist cabal suffered the most massive and historic defeat in modern political history only 9 months

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz writes in his new book that conservative voters would be “astonished” if they knew what Republican senators were really doing and saying in private meetings on Capitol Hill. “During my time in the Senate, I’ve been amazed how many senators pose one way in public—as fiscal conservatives or staunch Tea Party supporters, for example—and then in private do little or nothing to advance those principles,” Cruz writes in his new book, “A Time For Truth.” “Indeed, if transcripts of our Senate lunches were released to the public, I think many voters would be astonished,” the Republican presidential candidate

In a commonsense decision, the Supreme Court refused to hear an appeal of a case that decided that people registering to vote in federal election don´t have to prove their citizenship. That means that people registering to vote won´t be bullied into proving citizenship, which now seems to be an irrelevant criterion for voting. “I am very pleased, obviously,” said Dolores Furtado, president of the Kansas chapter of the League of Women Voters. “It’s a good feeling because we’re truly trying to help” people get registered to vote. Furtado said the league’s main interest is in increasing participation in the

Under pressure from Hispanic groups, NBC severed all ties with Republican presidential contender Donald Trump on Monday, and according to a report, the network is specifically eyeing minority candidates to replace him on Celebrity Apprentice. In addition to announcing it would be dumping the July 12 Miss USA pageant, NBC announced Trump would not be returning to Apprentice. “At NBC, respect and dignity for all people are cornerstones of our values,” the network said Monday. “Due to the recent derogatory statements by Donald Trump regarding immigrants, NBCUniversal is ending its business relationship with Mr. Trump.” TMZ is reporting as an

When the University of Missouri at Kansas City was looking for a celebrity speaker to headline its gala luncheon marking the opening of a women’s hall of fame, one name came to mind: Hillary Rodham Clinton. But when the former secretary of state’s representatives quoted a fee of $275,000, officials at the public university balked. “Yikes!” one e-mailed another. So the school turned to the next best option: her daughter, Chelsea. The university paid $65,000 for Chelsea Clinton’s brief appearance Feb. 24, 2014, a demonstration of the celebrity appeal and marketability that the former and possibly second-time first daughter employs on behalf of

Jeb Bush on Monday became the first presidential candidate to campaign in South Carolina since a deadly church shooting and was immediately drawn into a key subject of statewide debate: whether South Carolina should remove the Confederate flag from the grounds of its state capitol. Bush had already issued a statement in support of legislation to remove the flag but had not discussed the issue openly in public. After a 30-minute tour of a pharmaceutical manufacturing plant here, Bush walked into a room packed with nearly 200 workers. The younger, diverse, mostly blue-collar crowd was not the kind that Republican candidates usually

In front of emotional supporters, Mayor de Blasio signed legislation Monday that will prohibit employers from inquiring about a candidate´s criminal record prior to a job offer. "Today I see hope for people like me," said Marilyn Scales, 52, of the Bronx, who said she never has had a full-time job because of her record for dealing heroin. The mayor also signed legislation to step up regulation of the car wash industry. Car washes will have to obtain biannual city licenses as well as a $150,000 bond to cover costs if they are sued for wage theft. Steve Rotlevi, owner of Zoom

United Nations (United States) (AFP) - Robert Redford told the United Nations on Monday that negotiations on a global deal to tackle climate change could be the world´s "last chance" to save the planet. "This December, the world must unite behind a common goal," said the American actor and producer. "Because look, this is it. This is our only planet, our only life source. "This may be our last chance." A professor at the University of Memphis suggested that the Charleston shooter was not mentally ill but rather just another example of “white people acting how they’re conditioned to act.” Assistant professor of sociology Zandria Robinson — whose Twitter account is promoted on the school’s official website — posted a tweet following the Charleston shooting suggesting that the killer’s actions were a result of his whiteness: *waits for thinkpieces about how more mental health services could prevent white people from acting how they’re conditioned to act* — Ida B. Last week, millions of Facebook users gave their profile pictures a rainbow makeover to celebrate the double Pride/Supreme Court same-sex marriage ruling but an unpleasant backlash has begun. The translucent rainbow tool was laid on by Facebook itself, but a number of third-party apps are now offering an American flag equivalent to people opposed to gay marriage and equality in general. RightWingNews.com, which created one of the American flag tools, hasn’t explicitly stated that it’s meant as a counter to the rainbow Celebrate Pride avatars and oppose equal marriage, many users seem to have been taking it that way:

WASHINGTON — Add GOP operative Karl Rove to the ever-growing list of Ted Cruz’s political adversaries. In Cruz’s forthcoming book, A Time for Truth, set for publication Tuesday, he recounts a tense confrontation in which Rove bullied him into burying an endorsement from George H.W. Bush amid concerns that it would alienate donors to the George W. Bush library in Dallas. Rove, in Cruz’s telling, also called Bush “too old” to exercise sound political judgment in such matters — an assertion bound to stir consternation in the tight knit family hoping to elect its third president next year. Rove issued
