A blue wall of silently seething police officers turned their backs on Mayor de Blasio Saturday night — literally. As the mayor and his entourage snaked through a jammed third-floor corridor at Woodhull Hospital, where two officers had been pronounced dead just hours earlier, scores of grieving cops faced the walls — and away from the leader they believe has failed them. Earlier, de Blasio approached a cluster of cops at the Brooklyn Hospital and offered, “We’re all in this together.”“No we’re not,” an officer replied tersely, according to a cop who witnessed the icy scene. The rank-and-file’s anger at the mayor

Al Sharpton posted a statement through his National Action Network this evening condemning the deadly ambush of two New York Police Department officers and promising to follow up with a press event Sunday morning. Officers Rafael Ramos, 40, and Wenjian Liu, 32, were shot to death as they sat in their patrol car Saturday in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Identified gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley, 28, then killed himself on a nearby subway platform. Brinsley left a Facebook message stating, “I’m Putting Wings on Pigs Today… They Take 1 Of Ours, Let’s Take 2 of Theirs #ShootThePolice #RIPErivGardner [sic]

Many are blaming the murder of two New York City cops on Saturday afternoon on Mayor Bill de Blasio following his recent support for protesters in the city marching in opposition to a grand jury´s decision to not indict the police officer who killed Eric Garner. Hundreds have taken to social media to say that de Blasio has ´blood on his hands´ and should ´be charged with murder´ after the two men were killed ´execution style´ in Brooklyn. What´s more, many feel that de Blasio should not attend the men´s funeral, this after many members of the NYPD signed a petition asking that the Mayor not attend their service should they be killed

NAACP President Cornell William Brooks said it is "simply not fair" to blame politicians like New York Mayor Bill de Blasio and Attorney General Eric Holder for the deaths of two New York Police Department officers who were ambushed and killed by a gunman in Brooklyn on Saturday. "To link the criminal insanity of a lone gunman to the peaceful protests and aspirations of many people across the country including the attorney general, the mayor and even the president is simply not fair," Brooks said in an interview on CBS´ "Face the Nation" Sunday. Shortly after midnight on the east coast, President Obama issued a statement from his vacation in Hawaii, condemning the murders of the two police officers in New York City. “Two brave men won’t be going home to their loved ones tonight, and for that, there is no justification,” Obama said, reminding Americans that police officers “risk their own safety for ours every single day.” The president was golfing in Hawaii when he was first briefed about the murders, but the White House released a statement reassuring Americans that administration officials were monitoring the situation. After Obama returned from his golf

CNN´s Don Lemon on Thursday insisted that Barack and Michelle Obama are the "closest thing we have to royalty." The anchor was discussing complaints by the First Lady that she had been mistaken for a Target employee during a visit. Lemon lamented, "But speaking to People magazine, according to the Obamas, they´re sometimes treated less than like royals, or the first couple, and more like the help." He began the segment by declaring, "They are America´s first couple, the closest thing that we have to royalty." New York Times columnist Charles Blow quipped, "You´re going to get in so much

During a Sunday press conference Reverend Al Sharpton said he had received several threats following the murder of two NYPD officers in Bedstuy Saturday night. “The language is ‘Hey N word, stop killing innocent people, I’m going to get you,” and I have several like this,” Sharpton said. “We are now under intense threat from those that are misguided, by those that are trying to blame everyone from civil rights leaders to the mayor rather than deal with an ugly spirit that all of us need to fight.” Gunman Ismaaiyl Brinsley intimated in a final Instagram post that he sought revenge for

As of Jan. 1, 2012, an estimated 13.3 million lawful permanent residents lived in the United States, and 8.8 million of them were eligible to apply for U.S. citizenship but had not done so. In California, 2.48 million out of 3.4 million green-card holders were eligible to apply but chose not to. And, of course, not all non-citizens residing in this country are “lawful.” An estimated 11 million people live here without permission, though President Obama recently took action to defer the deportation of as many as half of them. America obviously would benefit if more non-citizens living here —

On December 20 the NAACP Legal Fund issued a press release saying the execution of NYPD officers Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos show “the need for sensible gun control.” According to the release, we need also “need to thoughtfully address untreated mental illness.” One thing the NAACP Legal Fund’s release said we don’t need to do is to “suggest a causal link between between these killings and the recent protests and activism focused on the serious issue of police violence against unarmed African Americans.” They suggest that pushing such a “causal link” may escalate “an already tense state through rumor

Bill Callaham, a California lawyer, never had a chance to hand over his Rolex, cell phone or hundreds of dollars in cash. The men who attacked him from behind in the Central Business District never made any demands. They beat him unconscious, breaking his nose and his jaw. And afterward, he said, they took nothing. "If somebody had confronted me and asked for money, I would´ve happily given them my money," Callaham said Friday, a week after the assault. "I don´t know if it was random, I mean, I have no idea.
