Former Secretary of State Colin Powell plans to vote for Hillary Clinton, his staff confirmed on Tuesday. Powell´s announcement, which came at a Long Island Association luncheon, is the latest example of Republicans who are ditching their own party’s nominee. But his move isn´t a complete surprise: Powell, a retired four-star general who served as secretary of state under President George W. Bush, endorsed Barack Obama in 2008 and 2012. He recently engaged in a public spat with Clinton over her email habits -- denying that he had advised her to set up a private server.

Colin Kaepernick wrapped up his second start this season for the San Francisco 49ers, and decided to go with another statement t-shirt at his post-game press conference. Kaepernick sported a Black Panther Party t-shirt. I’ve got a screenshot of his press conference below, and you can view a slightly better shot from Cam Inman below that. Kaepernick’s National Anthem protest continues, with Eric Reid and Eli Harold regularly joining him on one knee. The discussion of it has quieted down to some extent, but he continues getting a chance to discuss social issues after games and during mid-week availability. There

Given two terrible choices, a depressing number of voters have responded in the worst way. Yes, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump are terrible presidential candidates, but not all of the blame for this thoroughly depressing election year can be placed at their feet. The primaries gave the general electorate two bad, disliked, dishonest, vindictive options . . . and in far too many cases, the general electorate responded appallingly, making a crummy situation worse. Let’s start with the violence. A GOP office was firebombed in North Carolina. A threatening if ultimately non-hazardous white powder was sent to Hillary Clinton’s campaign

The liberal Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren is embracing the phrase “nasty women” to refer to women like her who oppose Donald Trump. Campaigning with Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in New Hampshire on Monday, Warren said: “Get this, Donald: nasty women are tough. Nasty women are smart. And nasty women vote. And on November 8th, we nasty women are going to march our nasty feet to cast our nasty votes to get you out of our lives forever.” During last week’s presidential debate, Trump attacked Clinton as “such a nasty woman” after she launched a personal attack at him. Since

Arnold Schwarzenegger could have been the one battling Hillary Clinton in the race for the White House. The former California governor, 69, said in an interview published Monday that he would have run for president if he could. This year, according to him, would have been an ideal time to launch his campaign. Schwarzenegger, an Austrian native, became a naturalized citizen in 1983. That makes it impossible for him to run for president, in a country where only natural-born citizens - born either in the United States or on foreign soil from at least one US citizen parent - can

A White House aide has failed to deny rumors President Barack Obama is planning to leave the United States if Donald Trump wins the election. White House press secretary Josh Earnest was asked whether Obama was planning to flee abroad if Trump, a man he has said is unfit to hold the office, is elected president. In response, Earnest would only say that Obama was campaigning to ensure that no one would have to leave America because of a Donald Trump presidency. The rumor mill first started when Canadian satire site The Burrard Street Journal carried an article saying that

In a recent op-ed for TIME magazine, Public Broadcasting Service late-night host Tavis Smiley expressed concern that blacks in America might one day return to slavery if Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump wins the election on November 8. “In my lifetime, I have never seen Congress so blatantly mock our Constitution,” he stated. “It’s especially striking that it comes from the political party that’s always lecturing us about the ´rule of law,´ What’s worse is that they’re getting away with it.” The host of The Travis Smiley Show continued: When I hear Donald Trump suggest that he wants to “Make

Newt Gingrich faced off with Megyn Kelly tonight and completely lost it. Gingrich, who most frequently appears in Fox primetime with Sean Hannity, seemed to be very, very thrown by actually being challenged on Donald Trump being behind in the polls. Kelly very persistently pressed Gingrich on the fact that all the polls show Trump is behind. Gingrich pointed to certain states where Trump’s doing well and said the pollsters have an agenda. (Snip) But it was when Kelly said people have a right to hear these allegations of Trump being a “sexual predator” that caused Gingrich to explode: “I’m sick and

Conservative Washington Post columnist Jennifer Rubin has been pretty tough in her columns about the conservatives in the media who have gone soft on Donald Trump. That culminated in an amazing segment with Bill O’Reilly tonight. See, O’Reilly was upset about literally this one line in something she wrote weeks ago: “Trump should do interviews with real news people, not Sean Hannity and Bill O’Reilly, in preparation for the debates. He’s otherwise in for a rude awakening when someone asks a real question.” O’Reilly objected to this tonight, but Rubin responded, “My criticism is really that you actually are in

For someone who claims that this entire presidential cycle is completely rigged against him, Donald Trump is maintaining a very strong campaign schedule – and even expanding it in these closing days. Why bother to do three large rallies with three detailed speeches in three separate states on the same day – as Trump just did in crucial Pennsylvania, Virginia and Ohio – if election results are a foregone conclusion? That’s a very strenuous day, even for a candidate who isn’t 70 years old like Trump. The truth, of course, is this 45th quadrennial selection of a commander-in-chief

President Obama told a fundraiser in California Sunday night that there has not been a "major scandal" in his administration, according to a White House transcript of the event. He made the remark while criticizing Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) at a fundraiser for congressional candidates, including Issa´s Democrat challenger, Doug Applegate. Obama said Issa´s main contribution to the U.S. Congress has been to "obstruct and waste taxpayer dollars on trumped-up investigations that have led nowhere." "And this is now a guy who, because poll numbers are bad, has sent out brochures with my picture on them touting his cooperation on

The game wasn´t much fun to watch. It was one of those blowouts with things pretty much settled long before the fourth quarter was over. There were the usual penalties, with the officials meeting to discuss whodunit and what to call. These provided opportunities for what are described by the announcers as a "break in the action." Those would be commercials for everything from Viagra to life insurance.
