regrets major Oscars flub

The show is not over. When the Oscars ended on Sunday night with the biggest flub in recent memory, thanks to Warren Beatty mistakenly reading La La Land out as the winner of best picture, when, in fact, the prize went to Moonlight, the night ended with an uproar — and more questions than answers. That´s why just after midnight PricewaterhouseCoopers, the accounting firm that tallies the Oscars, released an apologetic statement. "We sincerely apologize to Moonlight, La La Land, Warren Beatty, Faye Dunaway, and Oscar viewers for the error that was made during the award announcement for Best Picture," the statement read.

Former President George W. Bush believes President Trump is off track by fighting the media and speaking out against Islam in speeches and in his executive immigration order. Bush didn´t directly criticize Trump in an NBC interview on Monday, but he used his own time in office to contrast with what how the current president is using the presidency. When asked about Trump´s spats with the media, Bush said he never considered the press the "enemy of the American people," as Trump said last week. "I consider the media to be indispensable to democracy," Bush said. "We need an independent

I’m Sorry, But Caitlyn Jenner

I do not write these words lightly, and there is not an ounce of mockery or, God forbid, hatred in my heart when I say that Caitlyn Jenner is a man wearing a dress. I am simply speaking the plain and obvious truth, as politically incorrect as that truth might be right now. But with transgender issues dominating the news these days, and in light of Tucker Carlson’s epic takedown of Democratic leader Zac Petkanas on national TV last week (specifically, discussing gender-related questions), it appears that now is as good a time as ever to state some things clearly. So

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin announced plans to bring an undocumented medical student as a guest to President Trump´s first address to a joint session of Congress Tuesday night. Durbin is one of the most vocal defenders of Barack Obama´s executive action giving legal status to millions of children of illegal immigrants who have lived in the United States for years. He said he is honored to bring Aaima Sayed, a third-year medical student at Loyola University Chicago, to Trump´s speech to Congress. The Illinois Democrat has been pressing Trump to exclude these children, known as Dreamers, from any efforts

Fast-food chain Wendy´s is planning to install self-order kiosks at about 1,000 locations across the country by the end of 2017 to cut labor costs, The Columbus Dispatch reported. (Snip) The report did not indicate the locations getting the kiosks. Wendy´s said it already offered kiosks to its restaurants last year and that both customers and franchisees have demanded more of the service. According to the report, the company said the kiosks would help reduce labor costs and give younger customers the experience they prefer. The kiosks cost about $15,000 each. Earlier this month, Wendy´s said it opened 150 new restaurants

Do you remember where you were when “Brokeback Mountain” lost in the best picture category? It was in 2006, my first year in college, and I was at a crowded Oscar party. When Jack Nicholson read the contents of the envelope, he delivered the news that “Crash” had won with an implied shrug as if to say, “That’s Hollywood, Jake.” Everyone in the room with me was stunned, almost unable to move. “Brokeback” had been the unbeatable front-runner, a cultural phenomenon that was also critically beloved. It had completed a near sweep during the awards season, winning honors from the British Academy of Film

The animosity between the press and President Trump has reached a fever pitch in recent days. Much of the grudge match stems from access, or lack thereof, between the President and the press. This week, there was an outcry from journalists as White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer hand selected certain outlets to join him in an off camera press conference. Trump regularly shucks his pool reporters, the members of the White House press designated to cover his every movement, so he can dine or golf in privacy. The practice of ditching the press pool is not exclusive to Trump, but

The ´Bonnie and Clyde´ actors had already announced that ´La La Land´ had taken the top honor. Moonlight ultimately shined the brightest at the Oscars on Sunday, taking home the award for best picture. Barry Jenkins´ coming-of-age drama beat out the category´s frontrunners La La Land, as well as Hidden Figures, Arrival, Fences, Hacksaw Ridge, Hell or High Water, Hidden Figures, Lion and Manchester by the Sea. The award was given to Moonlight after presenters Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway announced that La La Land had won best picture. As the film´s producers were making their acceptance speeches, producer Jordan

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — It has been 27 years since the first black man, an older student by the name of Barack Obama, was elected president of the prestigious Harvard Law Review. It has been even longer — 41 years — since the first woman, Susan Estrich, was elected to the position. Since then, subsequent presidents have been female, Hispanic, Asian-American, openly gay and black. (Snip) When Ms. Umana talks about the law, she speaks through the prism of her race and gender. Not far from her mind are the black women who in recent years died after encounters with law

Exactly a month after Trayvon Martin was killed, his family gathered in a muggy back room at the civic center in Sanford, Florida. The city council was preparing for its first public meeting since the boy´s death, and his family and their supporters wanted to pressure city leaders to step up and arrest the man who had fatally shot Martin. Outside of the civic center a crowd of thousands began to swell, chanting so loudly that at times it felt like a train was rumbling in the near distance. For weeks, momentum had been building around the call for justice

Former CIA Director John Brennan has reopened his feud with Donald Trump, saying he doesn´t think any sort of travel ban proposed by Donald Trump will be effective. ´I don´t think the travel ban is going to help in any significant way,´ he said in an interview with ´Face the Nation´ on CBS. Trump´s team is in the process of drafting a revised travel ban, which is expected to be released this week. Brennan cited a Department of Homeland Security report that determined that country of origin is not a major factor in determining who might be a terrorist. He told CBS: ´The vetting

Prince Charles will dramatically and unilaterally declare Camilla Parker Bowles to be ‘Queen Camilla’ in the first 24 hours after the death of his mother, an informed source tells the Daily Beast. “They have it all worked out,” the source, who is close to a number of senior royals, told the Daily Beast. “When Charles goes before the Accession Council he will tell them his choice of regal name, and then he will authoritatively make it clear that his wife is to be known as Queen Camilla.” The source says that while the name of the King--almost certainly Charles III although George
