When Michelle Obama joined US President Barack Obama on his visit to Saudi Arabia on Tuesday, many Saudis on Twitter focused on the fact that she was not wearing a headscarf rather than the outcome of the diplomatic visit. The couple were visiting to offer condolences after the death of the late King Abdullah, and strengthen US ties with his successor King Salman. Members of the US delegation crossed party lines and included former Bush-era officials, according to AFP. On Twitter, Saudis launched the hashtag #Michelle_Obama_NotVeiled in criticism of the first lady for not covering her hair.

Has conservative genuflection at the altar of Sarah Palin finally come to a halt? In case you missed it, her speech in Iowa this week was not well received on the right. The Washington Examiner’s Byron York calledit a “long, rambling, and at times barely coherent speech" and National Review’s Charles C. W. Cooke said she slipped into self-parody. And there’s more. The Examiner’s Eddie Scarry, for example, contacted several conservative bloggers who were once Palin fans, but have since moved on. But here’s my question…what changed? Yes, in 2008, Sarah Palin delivered one of the finest convention speeches I’ve ever heard (trust

In Des Moines this past weekend, Sarah Palin gave a speech, and at long last the vultures began to circle. “A tragedy,” declared Joe Scarborough, on Morning Joe; “bizarro,” ajudged the London Times’ Toby Harnden; “an interminable ramble,” said Iowa professor Sam Clovis. These, alas were among the kinder adjectives. In the Washington Examiner, Byron York treated those who missed the address to a brutal dissection.(Snip)Some people contain within them a magical quality that leads their fans toward idol worship, and, for whatever reason, Palin appears to have it in spades. But, as she has discovered for herself of late,

In an attempt to shame residents of their city, a new Seattle law will levy a fine on homes that do not properly sort food out of their garbage. Emblazoned with a red citation tag, violators will start to be fined anywhere from $1-$50 in July. For now, Seattle residents will be publicly shamed by the ‘Scarlet Letter’-like tags. (Snip)"You can see all the oranges and coffee grounds," he says, raising one lid.” All that makes great compost. You can put that in your compost bin and buy it back next year in a bag and put it in your

President Obama, speaking to an audience of mostly young people celebrating India’s Republic Day in New Delhi on Tuesday, told the crowd, “I realise that the sight of an American President as your chief guest on Republic Day would have once seemed unimaginable. But my visit reflects the possibilities of a new moment.” He pointed out that he was the first American president to participate in the country’s Republic Day and boasted, “And I’m the first American President to come to your country twice!” The president went on to refer to himself an astonishing 133 times in the short 33-minute

Tucker Carlson said on Fox that more children die of bathtub drownings than of accidental shootings. They don´t. Steve Doocy said on Fox that NASA scientists faked data to make the case for global warming. They didn´t. Rudy Giuliani said on Fox that President Obama has issued propaganda asking everybody to "hate the police." He hasn´t. John Stossel said on Fox that there is "no good data" proving secondhand cigarette smoke kills nonsmokers. There is. So maybe you can see why serious people - a category excluding those who rely upon it for news and information - do not take Fox, well ... seriously,

First lady Michelle Obama’s fashion sense has been a parade of florals on the presidential trip to India this week, delighting Indians when she stepped off Air Force One wearing an Indian-born designer’s exotic ensemble. The dress, with matching coat, was knee length with a pattern of huge blue-and-white poppies splashed over the bodice and waist, with a black-and-white striped pattern filling out the rest. Indian style watchers knew immediately it was by Bibhu Mohapatra, who was born in India but now is based in New York. (Tweet) It helped that Mohapatra, 42, tweeted his delight, as did the U.S.

Islamic State militants have threatened to behead Barack Obama and turn the U.S. into a Muslim province in the latest gruesome video to emerge from their self-styled caliphate. The footage shows a black-clad jihadist standing over a Kurdish soldier who, in a sickening climax to the video, has his head cut off. Before the hostage is executed, the ISIS fighter warns the U.S. president: ´Know, oh Obama, that we will reach America. ´Know also that we will cut off your head in the White House and transform America into a Muslim province.´ Scroll down for video

Rachel Levine stood tall in the doorway, offered a polite handshake, and took a seat at the L-shaped desk in her drab, blank slate of an office. The room, with its empty bookshelves, dual computer screens, and not much else, seemed appropriately open to possibility as the headquarters for a woman about to chart new territory. Levine, who has just been named Pennsylvania´s physician general, spent most of her 57 years - at least outwardly - as a man. If the state Senate confirms her appointment, the doctor, who until a few years ago was known as Richard Levine, will become

During testimony and questioning from lawmakers Wednesday on Capitol Hill, attorney general nominee Loretta Lynch failed to answer questions about the Department of Justice role in the IRS targeting scandal, arguing because she hasn´t been briefed on the case in her capacity as U.S. Attorney, she can´t comment. "With regards to the actions of any of the agencies in our government there is certainly no place for bias, or favortism, or anything other than the even handed application of the relevant laws and regulations. MINNEAPOLIS — American Sniper is tops at the box office but don’t expect to see former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura lining up at a theater for it. Ventura, a former Navy SEAL, won $1.8 million in a defamation lawsuit last year against the estate of the late Chris Kyle, the SEAL protagonist of the movie, which has sparked debate over whether snipers should be considered heroes. Ventura said Wednesday he won’t see the film partly because Kyle is no hero to him. "A hero must be honorable, must have honor. And you can’t have honor if you’re a liar. There

House GOP Speaker John Boehner is considering a lawsuit against President Barack Obama over his executive order to shield millions of undocumented immigrants from deportation. Boehner discussed the next potential steps at a closed-door meeting with House Republicans on Tuesday. “We are finalizing a plan to authorize litigation on this issue - one we believe gives us the best chance of success,” he said, according to a source in the room. The options included filing a lawsuit against Obama over the issue or to join the handful of states that are already suing the president. If Boehner moves forward, he would put a resolution authorizing
