Monica Lewinsky is 100% right. The internet can be a brutal, unforgiving colosseum of rage, hatred and vile, disgusting abuse. I speak as something of an expert in this area given that I was recently reported to be the most abused public figure on Twitter in Britain. But the kind of nonsense I have to put up with – someone recently tweeted my eldest son to inform him that he hoped I was soon beheaded – pales into insignificance compared to the abhorrent misogyny, sexism and often criminal insults (threats to rape etc) that high profile women have to endure. Via Gabe Malor, not only would (i.e. will) Abbott’s wife be the first Latina first lady of Texas, Abbott himself likes to stress that fact when he introduces her at rallies. Dave Weigel tweets that Mrs. Abbott is featured on campaign billboards with her husband across the state. Her mother’s picture has also made it onto Abbott 2014 billboards to assure fellow Latinos that “Texas will love having him as governor.” It’s no secret, in other words, that he and his wife are of different races. On the contrary, it’s a message broadcast repeatedly by the Abbott campaign itself to appeal

This is featured on Drudge at the moment:(Snip for graphic)The link goes to this Reuters story: President Barack Obama made a rare appearance on the campaign trail on Sunday with a rally to support the Democratic candidate for governor in Maryland, but early departures of crowd members while he spoke underscored his continuing unpopularity. When liberal news outlets talk about Obama in such blunt terms, things are grim. More: Most candidates from his party have been wary of appearing with him during their election races because of his sagging popularity. … A steady stream of people walked out of the auditorium while he spoke,

Head on over to the website for SarahPAC, and you will be immediately asked for contributions to help “reverse Obama’s destructive policies” by sending “real conservatives to fix them.” But according to a new report, former Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s political action committee has only doled out 5 percent of the money she raised to actual candidates for office this year. Here is what OpenSecrets.org reported about SarahPAC’s latest FEC filings: For the two-year 2014 cycle, the former Alaska governor’s PAC, a vehicle that helps her stay in the game amid talk that she may run in the 2016 presidential contest,

The Supreme Court’s recent decision not to take up challenges to state amendments banning same-sex marriage has had two significant effects – it has expanded marriage to 30 states and reignited the political conversation around marriage equality in the 2014 midterms. Since 2011, I have worked with Project Right Side to help Republican leaders navigate a radically changing electorate on the freedom to marry. While public acceptance of marriage equality has steadily increased, this moment may ultimately be looked upon as the point where Republican opposition to marriage equality began to fall in earnest. According to a recent poll of Republicans I

VATICAN CITY — Pope Francis on Sunday, as he beatified Pope Paul VI who implemented the Second Vatican Council´s vast changes, called on the church to adapt to "changing conditions of society." His remarks took on added meaning as the bishops ended a two-week conference by rejecting landmark wording that would soften the church´s stance toward homosexuality and divorce. "God is not afraid of new things," Francis pointedly said during the beatification Mass. Whether the document issued Saturday by the bishops is viewed as a setback for the pope, the conference did show the church can discuss difficult topics — such as the

The Democrat mantra that voting fraud is rare takes another blow today with the stunning story of a GOP candidate unable to vote for himself in Cook County Illinois. The Illinois Political Review reports: Admitting his confidence in Cook County ballot integrity is shaken, State Representative Candidate Jim Moynihan (R-56), was shocked today when he tried to cast a vote for himself and the voting machine cast it for his opponent instead. “While early voting at the Schaumburg Public Library today, I tried to cast a vote for myself and instead it cast the vote for my opponent,” said Moynihan.

Denver - Hillary Clinton urged Americans not to vote for Republicans who dwell on the past, warning at a Democratic campaign rally Tuesday that conservatives seek to keep women´s rights "under assault" nationwide. Applauded by hundreds of supporters in suburban Denver, the former secretary of state lent her political celebrity to Colorado´s embattled Senate incumbent Mark Udall, who trails in the polls and has made securing constituent´s rights to abortion and contraception the central theme of his campaign. "Don't vote for people who proudly tell you they will never compromise, don't vote for people whose image of the future

When it comes to the outlets that the most conservative Americans get their news from, it´s Fox News and everybody else. And by everybody else, we mean mostly a bunch of other conservative-leaning media. A new study from the Pew Research Center lays bare the increasing reliance on partisan and/or ideological news sources on the right and left, and both sides have trended in that direction. But when you compare the left to the right, it´s clear which side is more interested in consuming news from sources with which it agrees politically. Pew asked people which news sources they got

Bad news for people who love good news: Michael Sam, the NFL’s first openly gay player, drafted by the Rams, then cut, then signed to the Cowboys practice squad, has been released, according to the AP. Sam came to Dallas on Sept. 3, days after he was one of the last cuts from the final St. Louis roster. At the time, we were excited for Sam — not because he was a Cowboy, but because Dallas was expected to have an historically bad defense. Instead, they’re ranked a respectable 16th overall by Football Outsiders, meaning the unit doesn’t need help.

President Obama does not want to be a Supreme Court justice. He calls it "too monastic" for his own personality. Besides, in an interview with the New Yorker, President Obama acknowledges that he needs to get out of the "bubble" after what will be eight years as president of the United States. “I love the law, intellectually,” the president tell the New Yorker, which says he sounds "tempted" at the idea of being on the Court. “I love nutting out these problems, wrestling with these arguments. I love teaching. I miss the classroom and engaging with students. But I think being

As a Vatican assembly on the family came to a close on Saturday, bishops ditched a document believed to signal a major shift in how the Church views gays and remarried Catholics, thus rejecting the vision of Pope Francis to chart a more ecumenical approach to ministering to Catholics around the globe. So sharply divided were the bishops that they could not even approve a watered-down version of the text that would provide ministering to homosexuals. That´s a sharp difference from where observers thought the bishops were headed earlier this week. Although the previous version of the document said that
