I’m a Ted Cruz fan. At the same time, I find myself increasingly intrigued by Carly Fiorina. She speaks like no one else in the field. Perhaps, in part, because she’s not a politician. (Snip) In just a few short minutes, Fiorina manages to interweave personal stories with core values that include faith in God, limitless human potential, and the greatness of America. Her speeches don’t sound like they have built-in applause lines. She simply speaks. If people clap, that’s fine. She doesn’t appear to expect it or revel in it. She is articulate as she speaks on a wide array of topics

CBS wasted no time in kicking David Letterman to the curb. ?Just hours after Letterman said farewell after 33 years on late-night TV, Ed Sullivan Theater crews hauled off blocks of blue stage and hacked up pieces of the iconic New York City bridges that made up the set of the “Late Show?.” Fans and passers-by gathered around a police barricade cordoning off the Ed Sullivan to watch workers unceremoniously chuck red theater chairs into an overflowing Dumpster and ?take reciprocating saws to his miniature Brooklyn Bridge. “It’s an end of an era,” commented onlooker Alex Lafreniere, 24, a fan visiting from Oklahoma. Disgraced NBC news anchor Brian Williams, who was brought down when it was revealed he lied about his experience in a war zone, has pulled out of hosting an awards show for military veterans and families. Williams, who has been suspended from the network since February, said he didn´t want to be a ´distraction´ from the inaugural Lincoln Awards, which will air Friday on PBS. Instead, First Lady Michelle Obama has stepped in and agreed to film an introduction for the show, which will honor people and groups that help veteran and military families. The concert was filmed in January

Robert M. Gates, president of the Boy Scouts of America, said Thursday that the organization´s ban on gay leaders "cannot be sustained" and urged the group to end its national ban. "I truly fear that any other alternative will be the end of us as a national movement," the former CIA director and secretary of Defense said in remarks in Atlanta at the Scouts´ annual national meeting. He recommended giving local Scout groups the authority to decide whether to allow gay Scout leaders. "We must deal with the world as it is, not as we might wish it to be,” Gates

Sport may be dismissed as inconsequential child´s play, but there is, in counterpoint, the ideal that sport is our best model for human fairness and equality — a Garden of Eden with competition. But, of course, there are snakes in this athletic garden. Rules will be broken. To my mind there are, in ascending order, three kinds of transgressions. The first is the most simple: transgressions committed in the heat of the action, instinctively, because of frustration, failure or anger. There are referees to tend to that misconduct. The second type of violation falls more in the realm of regulation. For example,

Meat — despite popular movements to decrease the amount humans consume — is still a central part of diets around the world. [Snip] But the reality is that there are several downsides to society´s growing appetite for meat. [Snip] But what if there were a way to produce meat that would avail us of the need to slaughter animals? What if we could continue to order hamburgers without also feeding the livestock industry as much as a third of the world´s grain production? And what if it could be done for a reasonable price?

Yet another high-profile TV newsman may find himself embroiled in controversy over his connections to the Clinton Foundation. Until late Tuesday afternoon, the Clinton Foundation website listed CNN anchor Jake Tapper as a "speaker" at a Clinton Global Initiative event scheduled for June 8-10 in Denver. After USA TODAY asked CNN about the event, Tapper´s name was swiftly removed from the Clinton Foundation website. One reason for CNN´s quick reaction is easy to understand. Last week, ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos, once a political operative for former president Bill Clinton, was widely attacked after he

Speaking today at a Washington, D.C. synagogue, President Obama called himself an "honorary member of the tribe." "Earlier this week, I was actually interviewed by one of your members, Jeff Holdberg. And Jeff reminded me that he once called me the first Jewish president," Obama said to light laughter. "Now, since some people still seem to be wondering about my faith -- I should make clear this was an honorary title, but I as flattered. And as an honorary member of the tribe, not to mention somebody whe´s hosted seven White House seders ... and been advised by two Jewish chiefs

Anti-Hillary Clinton political ads are writing themselves on a weekly basis. The latest source is this New York Times report that Hillary’s private email account contained sensitive information. The official name for the information is “sensitive but unclassified” (SBU). What sensitive but unclassified information did Hillary have in her private account. According to the Times, “that information included the whereabouts and travel plans of American officials in Libya as security there deteriorated during the uprising against the leadership of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi in 2011.” Considering the fate of Christopher Stevens the following year, it’s safe to say that this information was, indeed,

Finally, President Obama addressed what he sees as the nation´s worst security threat, just days after the fall of Ramadi to ISIS and North Korea´s declaration that it has miniaturized a nuclear warhead to fit on an ICBM capable of reaching the United States. In a speech to graduates at the Coast Guard Academy, Obama said, yes, yes, terrorism is a grave danger. But there´s another one. "We cannot, and we must not, ignore a peril that can affect generations," the commander-in-chief declared ominously. That threat? Global warming.

Politics has a well-known revolving door, with candidates often rehiring consultants, strategists and vendors as they move from one campaign to the next. But for Republican presidential contender Carly Fiorina, that might not be so easy. Twelve of about 30 people who worked on Fiorina’s failed 2010 California Senate campaign, most speaking out for the first time, told Reuters they would not work for her again. Fiorina, once one of America´s most powerful businesswomen, is now campaigning for the Republican nomination in 2016. The reason: for more than four years, Fiorina - who has an estimated net worth of up to $120

Benghazi panel subpoenas former

The House’s investigation of Benghazi sent the U.S. Marshals Service to serve a subpoena on Sidney Blumenthal, a top Clinton aide whose ties to former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton have raised tricky questions for the Democratic presidential hopeful. Congressional Democrats were furious at the move by Republicans on the Select Committee on Benghazi, calling it unwarranted and saying Mrs. Clinton has tried to cooperate. But Republicans said they are intent on speeding up an investigation they say has been stymied by stonewalling from both Mrs. Clinton and the Obama State Department. The subpoena demands that Mr. Blumenthal appear
