San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick made waves with his preseason debut Friday evening against the Packers, but not on account of his performance. The 28-year-old Super Bowl vet caused a stir after it was reported that he sat down instead of standing when the national anthem was played prior to Friday’s game in Green Bay. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses Black people and people of color,” Mr. Kaepernick told NFL Media in an interview published Saturday. “To me, this is bigger than football and it would be selfish

More power to 49ers´ Colin Kaepernick
for taking a stand against social injustice

Now isn´t the time to throw Colin Kaepernick under the bus as some sort of demon just because he listened to his conscience. The San Francisco 49ers quarterback refused to stand during the national anthem before Friday night´s preseason game against the Green Bay Packers, a not-so-subtle dig at the country which has overshadowed a courageous social statement as Kaepernick protests perceived injustices that are near the heart of so many African-Americans and other minorities these days. More power to him. (Snip) The way I see it, he just earned a lot of street cred, as they say, for at

This may go down in history as the presidential election that made everyone angry. That, at least, would offer some hope that Americans´ taste in presidential candidates might be redeemable. For now, though, all is bleak. The crook keeps proving more unabashedly crooked and the flake just keeps getting flakier. There´s no new lesson to learn from plumbing the depths of Hillary Clinton´s corruption or marveling at the heights of her mendacity. She´s as dirty as the day is long, and has been since the day she wriggled out of the Arkansas mud to become a public figure. This we knew. All

Anti-Trump Republicans are preparing to launch a broadcast TV ad in a handful of swing-state suburbs urging Donald Trump to quit the presidential race so the party can replace him with a more electable nominee. The ad, titled "Keep Your Word," features footage of Trump during the Republican primary in which he suggested he´d drop out if he saw his poll numbers decline. "Number one, I´m not a masochist, and if I was dropping in the polls where I saw I wasn´t going to win, why would I continue?" Trump said in an October NBC interview featured in the ad.

A software company that sells a brute-force data erasure program is boasting that its technology gave Hillary Clinton the power to ´wipe´ her private homebrew email server before it fell into the hands of the FBI. Application developer Andrew Ziem wrote in a Thursday night press release that his BleachBit software prevented the FBI from accessing emails that Clinton deleted. ´Last year when Clinton was asked about wiping her email server, she joked, "Like with a cloth or something?" It turns out now that BleachBit was that cloth.´ When Windows, Mac OS, Linux or other operating systems ´delete´ files, their entries in a

A controversy has erupted today because San Francisco 49er’s Quarterback Colin Kaepernick refused to stand up during the playing of the national anthem. “I am not going to stand up to show pride in a flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color.” ~ Colin Kaepernick So what exactly is going on. Well, there’s a little more to the story than most are willing to accept. The media and the NFL will avoid these discussions like the plague, but what the heck – the Truth Has No Agenda.During the off-season Colin Kaepernick converted to Islam. Colin Kaepernick is

SANTA CLARA — Colin Kaepernick didn’t do much to warrant headlines with his performance on the field Friday, but he’s certainly in for his fair share of scrutiny after he sat through the national anthem before his preseason debut against the Packers. Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk.com was first to report Kaepernick didn’t stand for the national anthem and got the 49ers to issue a statement on the matter. The statement from the 49ers to PFT: “The national anthem is and always will be a special part of the pre-game ceremony. It is an opportunity to honor our country and reflect

Target is launching a first-of-its-kind one-day sale to try and boost back-to-school shopper traffic amid a boycott over its bathroom policy. The retailer is offering a 10% discount on everything in its stores and online on Sunday. Target is calling the event #TargetRunDay. It marks the first time Target has ever offered a 10% discount both in stores and on its website. The sale comes after Target last week reported its first quarterly traffic decline in more than two years. Target´s same-store transactions, which is how traffic is measured, fell 2.2% in the second quarter. Overall, sales fell 7.2% to $16.2 billion. "In the second

Hillary Rodham Clinton has a weakness for questionable, ethnically vague proverbs — “It takes a village,” from an “African” proverb, and all that piffle—and she broke out a shopworn specimen in denouncing Donald Trump, on this occasion an “old Mexican proverb” that seems to exist largely in Democratic attack rhetoric: “Tell me with whom you walk, and I’ll tell you who you are,” the idea being that Trump likes to play footsy with peckerwood-trash racists and the white-power basement-dwellers whose homepage is Breitbart. Mrs. Clinton is correct about that, for what it’s worth (I warned you knuckleheads about this back

DETROIT — The U.S. is seeking to forcibly limit how fast trucks, buses and other large vehicles can travel on the nation’s highways. A new proposal Friday would impose a nationwide limit by electronically capping speeds with a device on newly made U.S. vehicles that weigh more than 26,000 pounds. Regulators are considering a cap of 60, 65 or 68 mph, though that could change. Whatever the speed limit, drivers would be physically prevented from exceeding it. The proposal, which comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, does not force older heavy vehicles

PHOENIX- The investigation and possible prosecution of metropolitan Phoenix Sheriff Joe Arpaio will be handled by the U.S. Justice Department after federal prosecutors in Arizona asked to be removed because of unspecified conflicts of interest, according to a court filing made public. A University of Iowa professor is asking the athletics department to make the university’s mascot, Herky the Hawk, display friendlier facial expressions, arguing that his angry grimace is traumatizing students. “I believe incoming students should be met with welcoming, nurturing, calm, accepting and happy messages,” Resmiye Oral, a clinical professor of pediatrics, wrote Tuesday in an email to athletic department officials, obtained by the Iowa City Press-Citizen. “And our campus community is doing a great job in that regard when it comes to words. However, Herky’s angry, to say the least, faces conveying an invitation to aggressivity and even violence
