Warren calls for ‘full-blown
conversation about reparations’

Politico, by Alex Thompson

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) gave her most detailed answer to date on the question of reparations for black Americans as a means of addressing centuries of slavery and legal discrimination. In a CNN town hall on Monday night in Jackson, Miss., Warren became the first 2020 presidential candidate serving in the Senate to endorse a House bill that would create a commission to study reparation proposals. “I love the idea of this congressional commission,” she said at Jackson State, a historically black university. “I believe it’s time to start the national, full-blown conversation about reparations.” The bill

These conversations should begin with full-blown negotiations with the British, Spanish and a few African governments. They can pay for establishing and profiting from the North American slavery business. Then we can have the "full-blown" conversation about how much my family is due from these funds for their service in the Union army to emancipate.

Since Democrats have a monopoly on collective guilt, it should be simple enough for EACH of them to open their checkbook and write a large check for reparations.
Rest assured that 1 or 2 checks will NOT be enough.
Many, many Americans are immigrants and had ZERO connection to any slavery and as such need no "´conversation." Also, any present-day slaveholders in America should consider reparations. And put a few bucks aside and send them to the Fund-Me website for the Mass Senator´s psychiatric expenses.

My great great great grandfather — a Union soldier — was gravely injured and held at Andersonville Prison Camp by the Confederacy.

Does my family get a “credit” for the blood and treasure it took to end slavery?

They are asserting one more time their belief that blacks can´t compete on a level playing field.

I didn´t have anyone fighting for the North, but if I had, I would be furious over this. (Just color my family Confederate. And yes, we did have some slave holders---just read my 6th great grandfather´s will tonight that passed slaves, specific by name, to his heirs. And of course it *named* his heirs, which was what I was after anyway.) Slavery was unfortunate to all those it touched, both slaves and masters. The Irish were being starved by the English; in the 18th century they might have jumped at the opportunity to work as free laborers in America. But I digress.

Before the civil war only dems owned slaves. Who should pay for reparations? I guess the dems and those blacks who owned them.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blJKdNr5VSU

3000 blacks owned 12,000 slaves "So what do the actual numbers of black slave owners and their slaves tell us? In 1830, the year most carefully studied by Carter G. Woodson, about 13.7 percent (319,599) of the black population was free. Of these, 3,776 free Negroes owned 12,907 slaves, out of a total of 2,009,043 slaves owned in the entire United States, so the numbers of slaves owned by black people"

What percent Black is Lizzie again? Surely she wants to include herself in the receiving end of reparations. Also, if a generation of Blacks is going to receive a check but have never seen a slave, how far into the future are we expected to pay, Stardate 3050 or some such, or is this a perpetual democrat program like affirmative action? She needs to explain herself a little better before I vote for her.

This is campaign pandering and there will never be a serious attempt to pay anybody reparations. The logistics of trying to require proof of entitlement would be impossible. The real point here is that in order to survive as a party Democrats have no choice but to offer free stuff paid for by others.

Here´s my thinking about reparations:

(1) The Civil War, 14th Amendment, Reconstruction, the massive "Great Society" social welfare program, etc. have already paid for slavery. There is not a single person alive today from that era that would legitimately be eligible for reparations.

(2) However, we have the Jim Crow era, which was perpetuated by DEMOCRATS, with their military arm, the Ku Klux Klan. And, there are many people still alive who were negatively impacted by this racist set of policies by DEMOCRATS.

(3) Therefore, I think that the DEMOCRATIC Party should pay reparations to any person affected -- and still alive -- by the Jim Crow laws of the South. This to me seems a reasonable case for reparations.

(4) Ball´s in your court, Dims.

No, is the only answer.

There are NO people alive who have any first hand knowledge of this, and any claims otherwise are lies.

All of us have had some problems in our past generations, and we are what we are by our own efforts and often with help of our parent´s efforts.

The last slave would have had to been born in 1863 or so (and would never have any memory of being a slave) and would have died at least half a century ago. Almost all actual adult slaves would have died at least a century ago. Likely the closest relations out there are great-grand parents, most will be more distant. Few people ever meet any great grandparents.

For comparison, the last Civil War veteran, a 106 year old who served as a drummer boy, died 63 years ago. This is the most extreme case.

Give this BS a rest.

But then, I am using facts and logic....which are inapplicable to a lot of folks, they cannot grasp either.

Gimmme, gimme, gimme. Any excuse.

I am sick and tired of the "George Orwell´s 1984" misuse of language. From the etymology (history of a word) dictionary, reparations means:

An "act of repairing or mending" is attested from c. 1400. Reparations "compensation for war damaged owed by the aggressor".

No "American" nor even colonist ever sailed to Africa and captured a single slave. A few...some indicate that less than 10% of southerners owned even one slave...made the legal purchase of "merchandise" offered at auction. There was a global market, and the terms of trade with Great Briton (which at the time "ruled" over the colonies) practically required the use of slave labor to meet production contracts.

This country began the abolitionist movement, and as posted above many Americans died to free the slaves during the Civil War. More people have immigrated into the country after the Civil War than were living here before then.

Another thing you don´t see mentioned is that from 1865 to 1960, every town of any size had a segregated thriving black middle/upper class, with merchants, doctors and lawyers. In that time:

Fewer black than white couples had their first child within a year of marriage.
More black than white families attended church together throughout their lives.
Fewer black than white students dropped out of school before graduating.
Fewer black than white marriages ended in divorce.

Wednesday on ABC’s “The View,” co-host Meghan McCain responded to President Donald Trump’s ongoing criticisms of late Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). McCain said, “I think if I had told my dad seven months after you’re dead, you’re going to be dominating the news and all over Twitter, he would think it was hilarious that our president was so jealous of him that he was dominating the news cycle in death as well. Do not feel bad for me and my family. We are blessed.” “We are a family of privilege,” she continued. “Feel bad for people out there who are

A new report on 2020 Democrat presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke’s marriage to real estate heiress Amy Sanders O’Rourke reveals the former Texas congressman indulged in some bizarre cuisine following his failed U.S. Senate bid in Texas. O’Rourke, who in January launched a five-state road trip across the Southwest, found himself eating dirt told to possess “regenerative powers” during one stop in New Mexico, according to the Washington Post. The newspaper said he also brought some of the dirt back home to Texas for the family to eat, as well. The strange antidote is one of several unflattering details to have

Sen. Elizabeth Warren explained at a townhall meeting sponsored by CNN in Jackson, Miss., on Monday night how God picks some people to go to heaven and others to go to another place. She did this after she was asked by moderator Jake Tapper what role faith plays in her life. After saying that she was raised a Methodist and used to teach Sunday school, Warren said: “The story for me is Matthew 26, and I´m sure some of you, a lot of you know this story. So much of this is inexplicable.[Snip] CALLER: Yeah. I think George Conway is the one who’s got problems. George Conway’s the one who’s dealing with narcissism. Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said she believes it is time for Mississippi to disavow its Confederate icons — namely on its state flag. "I would support removing Confederate celebrations from federal lands and putting them in museums where they belong," Warren said at a CNN townhall in Jackson, Mississippi, on Monday evening. Asked if she believes the state should adopt a new flag, Warren had a short answer. "Yes," she said to an applauding crowd. Mississippi´s flag, which features a confederate battle emblem, has been a source of controversy. The flag from 1894 has been accused of

OLATHE, Kan.—Soon after Jim Hildenbrand arrived in Avignon Villa Homes, a community for older adults in a Kansas City suburb, the homeowner association disputed the placement of his satellite dish. It cited him for parking cars in his driveway overnight and placing a St. Francis statue in a flower bed. He was later written up for a dead cat in a window well—which Mr. Hildenbrand suspects was planted by a neighborhood enemy. Things went downhill from there. After he installed a decorative, shin-high wall around a plant bed on the side of his house,

A federal judge ruled that the Interior Department violated federal law by failing to take into account the climate impact of its oil and gas leasing in the West. The decision late Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Rudolph Contreras in the District of Columbia marks the first time the Trump administration has been held to account for the climate impact of its energy agenda, and it could have sweeping implications for the president’s plan to boost fossil fuel production across the country. Contreras concluded that Interior’s Bureau of Land Management “did not sufficiently consider climate change” when making decisions to auction

Senator Cory Booker got his sanctimonious platitudes mixed up yesterday in an on-air interview with Chris Matthews yesterday on MSNBC. The topic was "hate" and the unspoken target beyond obvious, so perhaps secure in the knowledge that there would no probing challenges coming his way from MSDNC, he put his brain on auto-pilot as he activated the synapses, leading to his store of vaguely profound-sounding empty banalities. In an age of anger, the man who carelessly called himself "Spartacus" now poses as a great healer, hoping to distinguish himself from the large and growing field of Democrats seeking the Oval
