O´Rourke faces sharp backlash from left
Hill [Washington DC], by Amie Parnes

Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) has faced sharp backlash from progressives in the days since his presidential campaign launched to great fanfare last week. Left-leaning Democrats have criticized O’Rourke for a string of comments made in a Vanity Fair story preceding the opening of his campaign and in his subsequent days on the trail. Some of the remarks — such as O’Rourke’s statement to Vanity Fair, referring to the presidential race, that he was “just born to be in it” — have fanned complaints that the Texan is blinded by “white privilege.” Others have brought charges of sexism or

I would love to know what P.J. O´Rourke thinks of "Beto" O´Rourke. That would be one rollicking fun column to read.

The left had better be careful which nametags they pin on Beto. Things like "Stupid" and "Unaccomplished" apply to many of them. He´s working for the GOP candidates right now by drawing money out of liberal white women so let him campaign his socks off.

In the crowded field of Democratic presidential candidates, Andrew Yang stands out with a lengthy and eccentric list of policy proposals. Yang, a lawyer-turned-entrepreneur who has never run for a political office before, addresses more than 75 issues on his website for what he calls “A Campaign of Ideas.” Yang is a New Yorker whose parents immigrated to the United States from Taiwan in the 1960s. In 2011, he launched the non-profit Venture for America. It encourages and trains young entrepreneurs to work for local start-ups across the country. Scarborough tweeted that he and his co-host and wife, Mika Brzezinski, have been “overwhelmed” by the response from viewers to Buttigieg’s appearance on “Morning Joe.” “Mika and I have been overwhelmed by the reaction [Pete Buttigieg] got after being on the show,” Scarborough tweeted. “The only other time in twelve years that we heard from as many people about a guest was after [Barack Obama] appeared on Morning Joe.” (Tweet) The 37-year-old mayor of South Bend, Indiana, has not yet officially

Democrats, increasingly worried about the U.S. Supreme Court tilting to the right, have been talking lately about changes in its overall makeup. Most voters like the idea of term-limiting the justices but draw the line at adding more members to the court. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone and online survey finds that only 27% of Likely U.S. Voters favor increasing the number of justices on the Supreme Court. Fifty-one percent (51%) are opposed, but 22% are undecided. (Snip) The survey of 1,000 Likely Voters was conducted on March 17-18, 2019 by Rasmussen Reports. The margin of sampling error

Joe Biden has left little doubt that he is running for president because he has already told us. “I have the most progressive record of anybody running for the—” he exclaimed during a speech in Delaware over the weekend, before stopping short. “Anybody who would run,” he corrected himself. Nevertheless, we must continue to pretend, for now, that Biden is not officially seeking the White House, despite mounting and irrefutable evidence that he is doing precisely that. Politico’s Playbook says Democratic ad-maker Mark Putnam was “SPOTTED” in Scranton, Pennsylvania, over the weekend, where he was apparently “scoping out” Biden’s childhood

How do you answer hatred? How should you respond when your political opponents assault you with insult, stereotype and contempt? That’s the moral question we all have to answer during this election campaign. Hatred has become the defining emotion of our political life. As my colleague Thomas B. Edsall reported last week, according to a recent paper, 42 percent of the people in each party regard their opposition as “downright evil.” Nearly 20 percent of both Democrats and Republicans believe that their political adversaries “lack the traits to be considered fully human — they behave like animals.” Roughly 20
