Kavanaugh slams ‘pure discrimination’
against churches as court declines to
hear religious liberty case

Fox News, by Carolyn Salazar

The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a case about whether churches or other religious institutions in New Jersey are entitled to public funds for historic preservation. The ruling involved a four-year-long battle in Morris County over whether county money should be used to repair historic churches. The New Jersey State Supreme Court ruled last year that the county could not continue to give historic preservation grants to 12 churches. (Snip) The Supreme Court’s ruling was unanimous but three justices said the issue should soon be addressed.

Justice Brett Kavanaugh wrote that at some point the court will need to make a decision on distribution of historic preservation funds to repair historic churches and justices Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch are in agreement with his opinion.

Governments should not be sending our money to privately owned institutions for historic preservation or anything else.
My house is 80 years old. When it was built is was owned by a rich guy, though it had no utilities and heat was a basement coal furnace. Its pretty. Pay me.

This is an issue that impacts no one outside of the citizens and taxpayers of Morris County and they should decide. The state and federal supreme courts should butt out.

It´s important to preserve history, including churches. I see history as the background to our lives. It shouldn´t offend anybody if taxes are used to maintain a historic church if it´s for the purpose of display and education.

As a pastor (now retired), I would have read my Council the riot act if they ever even considered accepting government funds. I’ve already seen the restrictions that get slapped on religious social service agencies. That must never happen to congregations.

All we know at this point is that Special Counsel Robert Mueller delivered his report on Russia’s interference in the 2016 presidential election to Attorney General William Barr on Friday. What we don’t know is how the attorney general will handle the report. Barr has several options. The fairest would be to immediately turn the report over to President Trump’s legal team and give them a week to write a response. Barr could then issue both reports simultaneously so that the American public could judge the comparative merits of both sides of this adversarial process.

JERUSALEM (AP) — U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told a Christian broadcast network that it´s "possible" that President Donald Trump is like Queen Esther, who saved Jews in the Old Testament. Pompeo made the statement Thursday in an interview with the Christian Broadcasting Network on his trip to the Middle East. The interviewer asked if Trump is "like Queen Esther," who interceded with her husband to save Jews in what was then Persia and is now Iran. A lawyer representing former Trump attorney Michael Cohen said Wednesday that Cohen directed a lawyer last year to inquire about possibly receiving a pardon from President Trump. The disclosure by Lanny Davis, reported by the Wall Street Journal, contradicted testimony by Cohen last week on Capitol Hill, in which Cohen told members of the House Oversight and Reform Committee: “I have never asked for, nor would I accept, a pardon from Mr. Trump.” According to the Journal story, Davis said Cohen “directed his attorney” to ask about a possible pardon.

“There was no collusion!” As President Trump demonstrated in his feature-lengthCPAC speech, he is that rare combination of bottomless energy, canny comic timing, disregard for norms, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.(Snip) I do not expect collusion to be the highlight ofMueller’s report.Collusion was just the rationale for conducting an investigation for which there was no criminal predicate. I expect Mueller to file a report that highlights obstructive conduct, though probably not one that calls for an obstruction indictment. That, as I said back inDecember 2017, would throw the ball into Congress’s court for consideration of impeachment.
