Jussie Smollett is facing prison time and the implosion of his career if it turns out he lied about being the target of a hate crime, legal and public relations experts say. “The best thing that Jussie can do is pray and pray a lot,” said Ronn Torossian, founder of 5W Public Relations. “If he made it up, he has big problems in both the court of law and the court of public opinion.” The “Empire” star claimed he was beaten up on Jan. 29 by two men who used racial and homophobic slurs. What do you mean, “if?” It’s obvious he lied! These people are contorting themselves all over the place to give this guy the benefit of the doubt! He might as well fess up rather than waste more police time. He’s done it before, according to the article.

It was all so well coordinated with his gal pal Kamala Harris´ LBGT anti-lynching bill that I wonder if his unredacted phone records will lead to her as paying him.

I don’t think that he’s going to skate. He has about a dozen charges pending against him right now, some of which are federal felonies. The CPD is on to him and they don’t like to have 3 weeks of their time, money and manpower wasted like this. The USPS police are after him for mail fraud and terrorism and they don’t fool around. And he lied to the FBI.

His trial venue should be moved away from Chicago due to too much media coverage. All the prosecutor needs to do after presenting the evidence is point out how many murders and other heinous crimes could have been investigated in the time it took the CPD and the FBI to look into Juicy’s racist hate crime hoax. Guilty!

From a local Chicago site, some of the best reporting being done on this story (they are filing FOIA requests to get their information from the CPD). This report details the CPD´s first call on the letter, their visit to the Empire production company office, the employment of Hazmat and determination that the powder was acetominophen (Tylenol) and the letter´s being turned over to the U.S. Postal Inspection Service:

""Hold me down. They got some kind of threat through the mail": How the Jussie Smollett saga began"

Less than 90 minutes after the tactical sergeant was flagged down, federal law enforcement took over the case. The U.S. Postal Inspection Service had been notified, and an agent from the FBI’s Chicago Field Office had paid a visit to the Empire offices.

That agent, who has been with the bureau for 17 years, has worked international terrorism cases and is currently the FBI’s weapons of mass destruction coordinator and a chemical agent instructor for the FBI SWAT team.

Needless to say, whoever mailed that letter to Smollett should be very concerned to know that an investigator with that level of experience was merely the first person assigned to the case.

It is pure speculation/wishful thinking to believe Jussie will go to jail.
It is much more likely that he will be given probation and mandatory counseling.

Oh give me a break. He won´t even get so much as probation or even a meager fine. False accusers never get doodly squat. Even when they send innocent people to jail for years.

And his career won´t be hurt at all. Probably be helped. A couple years from now - as it has time to fade from the news - when the MSM mentions it, it will be in context that it was true and evil Trump supporters accused him of a hoax.

I suppose it’s true that “Democracy Dies in Darkness,” as the Washington Post’s slogan says. But journalism may also die, by morphing into forms that can no longer be described as journalism. Journalism may come to mean a crooked scandal sheet, or high-minded propaganda. Sometimes squalor and self-righteousness are equally disreputable. The Post’s apothegm, somehow off-kilter, with its alliteration and self-importance, was a purposeful bit of branding, designed to claim high ground and to poke a thumb in President Trump’s eye every morning. Such partisan intent detracts from the slogan’s claim to universality. The self-serving implication—the notion that,

Special Counsel Bob Mueller has handed in his report, marking the effective end of the three-year Trump-Russia investigation. Hallelujah! This means that Mueller firmly expects to file no more criminal charges, which pretty much confirms that all the media and political hysteria about his investigation was driven more by partisan wishful thinking than by anything resembling hard evidence. And that hysteria used up far too much time and attention in a nation with plenty of real issues to worry about. Yes, as much as possible of Mueller’s report should be released to the public,

A constant refrain we now hear is that President Trump’s order to finance the wall is “unconstitutional” and “violates the separation of powers.” That is not the case. Richard H. Pildes, a professor of constitutional law at New York University, wrote on March 14 the clarifying article, “How the Supreme Court Weakened Congress on Emergency Declarations.” Here are his salient points: Trump’s declaration of a national emergency to build the wall derives from that singular authority in the National Emergencies Act (NEA), passed by Congress in l976. Since then, presidents have resorted to the NEA 58 times.

If so, the dishonest purpose would likely have something to do with student aid while she and Elmi went to college in Fargo at North Dakota State University. If Omar is not Elmi’s sibling, the marriage nevertheless appears to involve some serious dishonesty she has concealed. I originally raised the question regarding Omar’s marriage to Elmi in 2016.
