Federal authorities seize massive 221-pound
shipment of cocaine at Southern California port

ABC News, by Mark Osborne

Federal authorities seized two massive shipments of cocaine at the same California port of entry in late January. The total for the two shipments was 221 pounds -- the largest at that port in 25 years, according to officials. The busts, which were announced on Friday, were both found aboard ships at Port Hueneme in Ventura County, about 60 miles northwest of Los Angeles, coming from Central and South America. The first shipment, which was 204.2 pounds, was seized on Jan. 22 on a cargo ship from Ecuador. Six days later, the same authorities found a seven-bundle, 17.5-pound shipment

If this much is being seized at guarded ports, how much is slipping by in unprotected areas that because it´s undetected is not mentioned? Three times the amount seized? Five times?

Thank God that President Trump is taking action to secure our border. The agents will be freed from processing ´surrendering amnesty seekers´ to stopping the flow of drugs. Applications for amnesty need to be made before they step foot on US soil and work the system.

James Comey claimed in an op-ed Thursday that he does not care one way or the other whether special counsel Robert Mueller finds evidence that President Donald Trump conspired with Russia to influence the 2016 election or obstructed the FBI’s collusion probe. But the claim, which Comey made in The New York Times, is at odds with the former FBI director’s testimony about his actions shortly after being fired by Trump in May 2017. Comey testified to the Senate Intelligence Committee in June 2017 that he leaked memos he wrote after conversations with Trump in order

The prospect of a 225-bed homeless shelter on the Embarcadero, one of San Francisco’s most scenic and economically vital areas, took residents by surprise. Only eight days earlier, the proposal had been unveiled to turn what is now a parking lot—Seawall Lot 330—into the largest homeless shelter of its type in the city. Neighbors arrived en masse at the Port Commission hearing to express their views. It was standing-room only, with people crowded on floors and in aisles, and spilling out the door. After a brief presentation by Jeff Kositsky, executive director

Last August, House investigators interviewed FBI deputy assistant director Jonathan Moffa about the Trump dossier, the collection of sensational allegations about Donald Trump and Russia compiled for Democrats during the 2016 campaign by the former British spy Christopher Steele. Republican lawyers had a simple question. Had the FBI confirmed any of the claims in the dossier? Moffa´s response set a new standard for non-answers. "So, I like to talk about this in kind of a living sense," he began. "Though, because the idea is, you´re never — you´re constantly evaluating that reporting, you´re constantly looking at incoming intelligence streams and investigative results.

Facebook officials admitted on Thursday that the tech giant stored hundreds of millions of user passwords in plain text -- able to be read by employees. "As part of a routine security review in January, we found that some user passwords were being stored in a readable format within our internal data storage systems," Facebook´s vice president of engineering, security and privacy Pedro Canahuati wrote in a post on the company´s website Thursday morning. "This caught our attention because our login systems are designed to mask passwords using techniques that make them unreadable," he added. "We have fixed these issues

President Donald Trump has a low approval rating. He is engaging in bitter Twitter wars and facing metastasizing investigations. But if the election were held today, he’d likely ride to a second term in a huge landslide, according to multiple economic models with strong track records of picking presidential winners and losses. Credit a strong U.S. economy featuring low unemployment, rising wages and low gas prices — along with the historic advantage held by incumbent presidents.

Despite leading a dozen announced Democratic 2020 presidential candidates in the polls, former Vice President Joe Biden is again dragging out a decision on a presidential run, repeatedly teasing that he is close to making up his mind. By December, he had amended that to: "We´re going to make that decision in the next six weeks to two months." At the start of January, members of his inner circle intimated

What would Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher do in respect of Brexit? That’s the question with which we’re wrestling as the second woman premier to lead Britain, Theresa May, flounders toward the March 29 date by which, absent a deal or an agreed-upon delay, Britain will finally regain its independence. How would the Iron Lady handle what the nervous Nellies are calling a colossal constitutional crisis? We understand that Thatcher has left this mortal coil. We focus on her because, as we’ve often marked, the idea of Brexit took flight only after Thatcher delivered her famous speech at Bruges, Belgium. T

President Trump complained Wednesday that he was never thanked for allowing Sen. John McCain’s funeral celebration, escalating a feud with the McCain family and drawing the ire of senators on Capitol Hill who told the president he was embarrassing himself. Mr. Trump, during a speech to workers at an Army tank plant in Ohio, took a detour in his remarks to blame the press for picking at years of scar tissue between the two men which has lasted even beyond McCain’s death in August. The president said he has “certain reasons” for disliking the former senator, including his votes

This month, the greatest off Broadway production should be titled “The Prosecutors,” starring Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance Jr. and New York Attorney General Letitia James. As in another dramatic comedy, “The Producers,” the state case against former Donald Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort seems designed to fail, leaving its prosecutors with the convenient windfall of public support and none of the burden. The New York state charges that Vance filed against Manafort appear to run afoul of state and federal protections against double jeopardy, or being prosecuted twice for the same underlying conduct.

The battle over the admissions standards at New York City’s elite public high schools has heated up again. After having failed to change the standards last year, Mayor Bill de Blasio is back at it, this time with some backup from celebrity freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. As usual, their impassioned pleas about the lack of black and Hispanic students completely ignores that it is Asian, not white, students who would bear the brunt of the proposed changes. At issue is the fact that these hyper-competitive high schools consider only a test score in deciding admissions
