The Green New Deal Is Make-Believe
Washington Post, by Robert Samuelson

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 2/15/2019 5:13:54 AM

WASHINGTON -- The "Green New Deal" is upon us, and the question is what to make of it. The Democratic proposal mandates that, within a decade, virtually all fossil fuels -- which represent about four-fifths of the nation´s energy supply -- shall be replaced with clean fuels that don´t worsen global warming. Just how is this task to be accomplished? The main sponsors of the Green New Deal -- Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., and Sen. Edward J. Markey, D-Mass. -- don´t say. The difficulties are made apparent by new projections of energy use between 2017 and 2050

Well I see that the few remaining semi-sane Democrats are trying to minimize the blowback from this fiasco by now referring to it as, "aspirational". Amy Klobuchar for one. Am I the only one who wants to ask Amy if she knows what that word means?

It means that they want to make it happen! How does that make it any less insane, Amy? What, you´re going to wait a little bit longer before you kill all the cows and get rid of all the airplanes and that makes it all OK for now? I feel like I´ve been transported to Bizarro World.

It´s not only that it´s impossible, it´s a laundry list of Socialist goals that have been tried to various degrees and failed or been rejected by the public.

MO´s control of food that could be in schools resulted in a spike in food being thrown in the garbage because kids would not eat it. Now the smurfs want to impose it on all of us.

The article proposes a carbon tax, which failed to pass under BO. It assumes that Global Warming is a proven problem, even as more and more evidence casts it in doubt and the public questions it. Dems boldly leap to a solution to the problem that they cannot convince us of. Even if there is a problem, some rational thinkers suggest it would be better to address problems if and when they come up rather than as a preemptive strike.

Then of course, we have the litany of housing, wages, health care, infrastructure, and education. This is a massive naked power grab, which has always been true. Even if there are some problems, rather than acting as a consultant making useful suggestions, the Socialists answer is ALWAYS for the government to take over. The FACT that government control almost always makes matters worse doesn´t matter because the issue really is one of BEING IN CONTROL for its own sake.

Besides, if you are in CONTROL, you can always pretend that the problems got fixed. Look how BO stood amidst the collapse of BOCare and proclaimed "All is well.".

Let´s discuss which dragons really are at the gate before we decide that unicorns are the answer. The truth is, not only is the Green New Deal make believe, the problems it proposes to address are too.

There is nothing new or progressive about it. In fact, it is as retrograde and a rotary dial phone. This entire farce is basically centralized planning of an economy, Stalinism, Maoism, but couched in environmentalist and PC identity politics terminology. When it has been attempted in the past it resulted in disaster. This woman is so stupid, she is incapable of recognizing just how stupid she is. Alexandra Ocasio-Dunning-Kruger.

They haven´t learned a thing from Obama´s feeble attempts at Green Energy or if they did they don´t care that billions of dollars were wasted, a whole industry was practically shut down and more than one state was put on the road to bankruptcy.

It sounds wonderful to be able to run a city by using the sun and the wind but the first time you have a cloudy or a calm spell, you are dead in the water. As a supplement for warming pools, the sun is okay, you wont die if you can´t swim for a day but Detroit without power would transform into a worse form of Detroit.

The only workable idea is to move back into caves that are lit by phosphorescent fish. Is that what we want?

Imagining Trump’s America

For nearly two years, the American public, and quite a few observers overseas, have hung on Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s every word and action: each hire, each redaction, each revealing and yet opaque footnote in hundreds of filings. His fans have indulged in devotional candles and meme T-shirts. The document that Mueller delivered to Attorney General William Barr has been so eagerly awaited that its official name might as well be “The Highly Anticipated Mueller Report.” This must be uncomfortable for Mueller, who shuns publicity, doesn’t seem to have much taste for politics, and has maintained a silence

The Southern Poverty Law Center’s problems go well beyond the fact it’s a vicious, left-wing attack dog with no care whatsoever for the reputational and personal harm it causes by lumping Christians and anti-extremist activists with actual neo-Nazis. As it turns out, the SPLC is a cynical money-making scheme, according to a former staffer’s blistering tell-all, published this week in the New Yorker. The center’s chief goal is to bilk naive and wealthy donors who believe it´s an earnest effort to combat bigotry. The only thing worse than a snarling partisan activist is a slimy conman who merely pretends to be one.

Watch in slow motion as Democrats, goaded by the media, conspire to reelect President Trump: Voters care about the economy and making education and health care affordable. And so Democrats are talking about . . . abolishing the electoral college? Sen. Elizabeth Warren (Mass.) started the latest distraction at a CNN town hall on Monday. “Get rid of the electoral college,” she said, neglecting to mention that this has zero chance of occurring in the foreseeable future. The media took it from there. On Tuesday, MSNBC’s Garrett Haake pressed former representative Beto O’Rourke (Tex.)

Robert Mueller has delivered his report on the Trump-Russia investigation to Attorney General William Barr. Sometime soon, perhaps within hours, Barr will send the report´s "principal conclusions" to Congress. It will first go to the chairperson and ranking member of both the House and Senate Judiciary committees. It is unclear what will happen after that, but certainly other lawmakers will see the document, and there will be a steady stream of leaks of what is in the report. The Mueller investigation is over, and it is apparently the case that Mueller does not recommend any new indictments.

Who is the biggest threat to our constitutional order? It is not President Trump. Ever since Trump took office, Democrats have been telling us he is an authoritarian who threatens our system of government. Well, today it is Democrats who are declaring war on the Constitution. Leading Democrats are promising that, if elected in 2020, they will abolish the Electoral College and might also pack the Supreme Court with liberal justices -- allowing them to marginalize Americans who do not support their increasingly radical agenda and impose it on an unwilling nation. So, the self-assured and confident predictions by so many on the left that they had seen "cold, hard evidence," and that Mueller would find copious evidence of "collusion" with Russia, was just wishful thinking alone.
