Ivankacare? Trump faces conservative opposition
to family leave program pushed by his daughter

Washington Free Beacon, by Melissa Quinn

Original Article

Posted By:MissMolly, 2/12/2019 5:15:36 AM

President Trump’s call during his State of the Union address for nationwide family leave led to applause from lawmakers and even a holler from one Republican, but conservative groups are sitting on their hands, fearing the president is about to create a new entitlement program that could quickly expand. “The biggest concern is the potential explosion of the program over time, and then having a federal program be the one source that everyone has to go to would not serve workers well,” Heritage Foundation research fellow Rachel Greszler told the Washington Examiner.

Comments:
Drop this one, Mr. President. Ivana has no idea where money for such a program must originate.

It´s finally dawned on me that the definition of conservatism has fundamentally changed. Character doesn´t matter, debt doesn´t count, and the growth of entitlements shall continue unabated.

The new GOP: We do socialism more thoughtfully.

I never liked the idea of paid family leave. It is just another socialist idea that people are trying to wedge into American life. If you can’t afford to have a family and work at the same time, I don’t have children.

Just say no, Mr. President.

No one ever considers the problems that occur when women or men take a month long family leave. The company or school has to replace them with someone for that short term. The replacement might not be really qualified for the position which hurts the company or school. In the theater, there are understudies who practice and know the part well. Not so much in the working world. This has to be taken into the picture.

The only companies that can afford family leave are large corporations, who can pass the cost to consumers. Small companies cannot afford lunch break, most working through lunch at their desks, and in their plants.

The only way I could support this would be similar to the way California funds State Disability Insurance or all states fund Unemployment Insurance...through payroll deductions.

Every working person pays a small amount based on gross pay, like $2 or $5 a week, and then (with a doctor´s certification) you file a claim based on the "first four of the last five quarters" of what you--individually--have paid in.

I disagree with family leave. I am hoping that this was offered mostly as a fig leaf in return for funding the wall or for restrictive anti-abortion legislation. Trump has shown he knows how to make deals.

If the Left tries to separate family leave legislation from the rest of Trump´s agenda, he should withhold FML or veto it.

The other day all the major new outlets were covering a story about Elizabeth Warren saying on the campaign trail in Iowa that Donald Trump “might not even be a free person” but rather in jail at the time of the 2020 Presidential election. Call this phenomenon the “hypothetical news.” Donald Trump might launch a preemptive nuclear attack on North Korea. Donald Trump might withdraw from NATO. Donald Trump might fire his Chief of Staff. Donald Trump might be crazy. More subtle examples of hypothetical news are: there is “widespread concern on Wall Street” that Donald Trump might fire

On Tuesday’s show this week, Fox News host Tucker Carlson revealed that he had tried to take the Russian “collusion” accusations and the launch of subsequent investigations seriously for about three months. It is Carlson’s job as a journalist to keep an open mind for as long as possible when such a serious allegation has been made. He apparently kept that open mind for three months, until the ridiculousness of it all could not be ignored. A majority of the left, the Democrats, and their “mainstream” media arm have pounded the spurious collusion narrative for over two years.

The results of an independent investigation into the January 18, 2019 Lincoln Memorial confrontation between leftist activist Nathan Phillips, black supremacist group the Black Hebrew Israelites and students from Covington Catholic High School were released Wednesday by Greater Cincinatti Investigation, Inc. The report, which is four pages long, shows what everyone could have known initially if the time was taken to reach for context: Covington students didn´t use a single racial slur against either Phillips or the Black Hebrew Israelites and they didn´t instigate the confrontation. Tuesday evening the Committee to Defend the President (CDP) filed a motion in a D.C. federal court seeking to supplement the complaint it had filed against the Federal Election Committee (FEC) in April 2018. In its original complaint, the CDP alleged that the agency responsible for enforcing campaign-finance law failed to act on an administrative complaint the CDP had filed with the FEC. That complaint charged that, during the 2016 presidential election, Democrats illegally funneled approximately $84 million through the Hillary Victory Fund to the Democratic National Committee (DNC), which then illegally coordinated with the Hillary Clinton campaign.

The GOP Majority Leader in the Senate persuaded President Donald Trump to not veto the GOP’s flawed border security bill by promising to back a national emergency construction of border walls, according to insider leaks to the establishment media. The Washington Post reported that “Trump had been leaning against supporting the congressional spending bill but relented after several conversations with [Majority Leader Sen.
