Venezuela and the Washington Clock

With speculation rampant over whether the Trump administration is going to invade Venezuela it is useful to review the American experience in Iraq. On the eve of the US invasion of Iraq in 2003 the strategic perception of Saddam and US planners could not have been more divergent, according to a recently published 1,500 page, 2 volume Army War College survey of that conflict. (Links to volume 1 and volume 2). To America toppling Saddam was an attempt to fix the chaos which resulted in 9/11 and challenged the global world order. Funny, I don´t recall anyone in the Trump administration talking about invading Venezuela. Must have been something in the Weekly Standard...

#1, then you have not been paying attention...of course, when people in the Trump Administration HAVE talked about invading Venezuela it has clearly been as an option on the table, not as a course of action they intend to take.
Members of the Trump Administration, including Donald Trump have suggested that there are circumstances under which invading Venezuela would be necessary. They have not spelled out what those circumstances might be, and I get the impression that they do not believe those circumstances will occur. They seem to believe (correctly in my opinion) that the key to keeping an invasion of Venezuela from becoming necessary is to make sure that everyone knows that it is always an option.

As far as I know, talk of Americans going into Venezuela is related to protecting diplomats and other Americans, should they be attacked or harmed.

I don´t think it will be necessary for us to invade Venezuela. Maduro has already destroyed the country.

Every other country in South America (except Bolivia, Ecuador, and Uruguay) want Maduro gone. There´s no need to invade, for Pete´s sake. The Brazilians to the south really want him out, and the Colombians to the west even more. Both countries have strong military forces.

Guaidó -- and the Venezuelan people -- will prevail. Meanwhile, Maduro is getting all his loot out of the country on cargo planes as fast as he can.

What´s with the left? Why have they so abandoned logic and reason that not only do they contradict virtually everything they stood for ten years ago (secure borders, etc.), their spokespeople have gone so far off the deep end as to embrace the incoherent proposals of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (no high-paying jobs for Long Island!) and to encourage the extraordinarily bizarre and increasingly hysterical narrative of Jussie Smollett. It is as if the Democratic Party has decided, once and for all, to adopt the psychological concept of "Magical Thinking" as its modus vivendi. TAMPA — Before Friday, Eric Jordan and Aaron Davis were just two friends who enjoyed the road. "They were just out riding around, two inexperienced motorcycle riders," said Roger Lavalley, 49, Jordan´s uncle. "And an accident happened." The men, both from Riverview, had been traveling east on Interstate 4 that day at about 3:30 p.m. when their bikes collided. Jordan, 35, was thrown from his Yamaha over the side of the interstate and fell 100 feet to the ground, onto N 50th Street, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. He later died from his injuries at Tampa General Hospital. Davis,

Gene Littler, a quietly outstanding golfer who was known as Gene the Machine for an uncommonly smooth and consistent swing that propelled him to the 1961 United States Open championship, died Friday in San Diego. He was 88. Littler’s death was announced by the PGA Tour. His son, Curt, told The San Diego Union-Tribune that he had neuropathy in his legs and had had several falls. In 1972, Littler had surmounted surgery for lymph cancer that had seemingly ended his career. In his prime, though self-taught, he had “a perfect swing,” said Gene Sarazen, a winner of seven major championships.

On Saturday night, Chicago Police confirmed to PJ Media that the testimonies of two black men arrested in the case of "Empire" star Jussie Smollett have flipped the story. Rather than considering Smollett the victim of an attack, it appears that police may now see him as the perpetrator of a hoax. "We can confirm that the information received from the individuals questioned by police earlier in the Empire case has in fact shifted the trajectory of the investigation," Chicago Police chief communications officer Anthony Guglielmi told PJ Media. Now comes Ken Dilanian’s NBC News story “Senate has uncovered no direct evidence of conspiracy between Trump campaign and Russia.” Dilanian labors mightily to keep hope (in “collusion”) alive. MUNICH — Speaking on German soil 75 years after the U.S. and its allies prepared for D-Day, Joe Biden described America as "an embarrassment" and its trade policies "self-defeating." "The America I see values basic human decency, not snatching children from their parents or turning our back on refugees at our border. Americans know that’s not right,” the former vice president and potential 2020 Democratic presidential candidate told the Munich Security Conference. "The American people understand plainly that this makes us an embarrassment. The American people know, overwhelmingly, that it is not right.

Not one uttered the word “gay.” They called the game the Game of Life. The lesson stuck. Seven years later, he climbed up into his seminary

Amazon employs a range of people from unskilled workers to tech geniuses and would have pumped large amounts of money into the city economy.
