Plummeting insect numbers
´threaten collapse of nature´

Guardian [UK], by Damian Carrington

The world’s insects are hurtling down the path to extinction, threatening a “catastrophic collapse of nature’s ecosystems”, according to the first global scientific review. More than 40% of insect species are declining and a third are endangered, the analysis found. The rate of extinction is eight times faster than that of mammals, birds and reptiles. The total mass of insects is falling by a precipitous 2.5% a year, according to the best data available, suggesting they could vanish within a century. The planet is at the start of a sixth mass extinction in its history, with huge losses already

I live in Florida, land of bugs and snakes. I haven´t seen any reduction in palmetto bugs, spiders or the little lizards that feast on them. I really, really wouldn´t mind if the flies and mosquitoes and ticks left the planet for good.

My initial response to this is "I doubt it." and I have no basis for that evaluation besides my summative evaluation of science related to global warming as poorly designed and executed bad thinking and outright lies.

That is unfortunate and potentially dangerous. Like for the boy who cried wolf, if a real wolf appears, no one believes it. It is sad that "science" has discredited itself to the point where we cannot implicitly trust it.

The article suggests we have to change the way we grow food, and that overpopulation and over-consumption by humans is the problem (that from failed Cassandra Paul Ehrlich).

No problem. Less food, fewer people, and skinnier happier people.

We can look to socialist paradises to see how well this works. Venezuelans, for example, lost an average of 24 lbs last year! How happy they must be!

The demise of the bugs "is thought to be" because of climate change, of course. Which makes it all our fault. Just us.

Articles like this one really bug me.

“Empire” actor Jussie Smollett is under arrest and in the "custody of detectives" Thursday morning, Chicago police Chief Communications Officer Anthony Guglielmi said. Smollett, who had felony criminal charges approved against him Wednesday, turned himself in to police, authorities said. Smollett was charged just hours after he was "officially classified as a suspect in a criminal investigation" for allegedly "filing a false police report" in connection with his Jan. 29 attack claims, police said. The Cook County State´s Attorney´s Office approved the "Disorderly Conduct / Filing a False Police Report" charges.

The state of California has been ordered to pay $399,000 to three crisis pregnancy centers and a politically-conservative law firm after the Supreme Court struck down a law intended to force crisis pregnancy centers to promote abortion. The Supreme Court ruled in June that the California law requiring crisis pregnancy centers to display information on how to obtain a state-funded abortion was unconstitutional. In October, a federal district court issued a permanent injunction against the law known as the California Freedom, Accountability, Comprehensive Care, and Transparency (FACT) Act. A Staten Island woman who climbed the Statue of Liberty last year to protest immigration policies staged another high-altitude demonstration in Texas Wednesday. Therese Patricia Okoumou, 44, was seen atop the Southwest Key building in Austin wearing a white headband reading “I care” across her forehead while she unfurled banners urging “free the children” and “free Patricia.” Southwest Key Programs is a nonprofit that houses more undocumented migrant children than any other in the country. It came under fire last year after a string of abuse allegations resulted in the suspension of a shelter in Phoenix.

Nick Sandmann is back in the news, literally with a vengeance. If there is anyone in the galaxy who doesn’t recognize the name, this is the high school teen viciously maligned by the media after a leftwing activist with a film crew attempted to provoke a confrontation with him as he waited for a bus near the Lincoln Memorial. Having committed the crimes of wearing a red MAGA cap and smiling, Sandmann was vilified by the media as a smug beneficiary of “white privilege” who had bullied a Native American veteran. This turned out to be a lie, of course.

For most of the past three years, the FBI has tried to portray its top leadership as united behind ex-Director James Comey’s decision not to pursue criminal charges against Hillary Clinton for transmitting classified information over her insecure, private email server. Although in the end that may have been the case, we now are learning that Comey’s top lawyer, then-FBI General Counsel James Baker, initially believed Clinton deserved to face criminal charges, but was talked out of it “pretty late in the process.” The revelation is contained in testimony Baker gave to House investigators last year.

In a unanimous decision, the Supreme Court on Wednesday ruled to drastically curb the powers that states and cities have to levy fines and seize property, marking the first time the court has applied the Constitution’s ban on excessive fines at the state level. Who would have thought that, this deep into the Russia collusion probe, we´d be learning about yet another dossier connected to Hillary Clinton? And, as it turns out, it was sort of a family secret. By his own account, senior Department of Justice (DOJ) official Bruce Ohr played an essential — and unorthodox — role, carrying politically tainted allegations of Donald Trump-Russia collusion to the FBI during the 2016 election. First, it was unverified intelligence starting in July 2016 from Trump-hating former British spy Christopher Steele, the author of the infamous Russia dossier.

Last week, an enterprising conservative political consultant unearthed evidence that Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) may have hired her boyfriend, Riley Roberts, to work in Congress. This news actually unraveled a far bigger story of corruption, however. As it turns out, a political group helping Ocasio-Cortez´s campaign had already paid Roberts during the campaign — and those payments from that shady organization may be the reason Ocasio-Cortez is in Congress today.
