Nobody ´tougher than me´: Booker
pitches 2020 ´unity´ message

NBC News, by Dartunorro Clark

DES MOINES, Iowa — Cory Booker´s voice is shot. Standing on stage before hundreds of potential voters in the state that boasts the pivotal first-in-the-nation caucus, Booker, in a raspy voice that normally booms, is adamant his message of love, hope and unity can win him the Democratic nomination and, ultimately, the presidency. "They´re going to say, ´Oh my gosh, more candidates talking about love and hope; oh my God, how are you going to beat Donald Trump with that?´” the New Jersey senator, 49, told the packed venue at his last event in the state following a two-day blitz

Comments:
He may just be kooky enough to win it.

It´s true I remember how once he became Mayor of Newark he would be in the worst parts every day working hard and confronting the problems head on. Oh wait, that didn´t happen. In fact he made sure he didn´t actually live the the city he was supposed to ´fix.´

Why some African Americans are

Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) is running to become the first black female president. But in the early days of the campaign, she’s had to answer questions about the “legitimacy” of her “blackness.” Online, stories have circulated suggesting that Harris is not African American because her parents are immigrants and she spent some of her childhood in Canada. During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” radio show Monday, hosts DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God asked Harris about that. Harris pushed back. “I’m black, and I’m proud of being black. I was born black. I will die black,”

The Amazon blame game continued Friday with Mayor de Blasio ripping into corporate critic Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, saying the popular Queens congresswoman is missing what it means to be a progressive. “As a progressive my entire life — and I ain’t changing — I’ll take on any progressive anywhere that thinks it’s a good idea to lose jobs and revenue because I think that’s out of touch with what working people want,” the mayor said on WNYC radio. De Blasio, a self-styled progressive with national ambitions, was an equal opportunity critic, spewing barbs at both Amazon for nixing a

Beto O’Rourke is in talks with Democratic strategists about a likely 2020 presidential run, according to two sources. Two Democratic campaign strategists told POLITICO on Friday that they are in discussions with O’Rourke and his team. One of the strategists described those conversations as moving to “an operational level” after weeks of discussing 2020 in more theoretical terms. (Snip) O’Rourke became a Democratic sensation during his closer-than-expected Texas Senate run last year. Amazon’s announcement Thursday that it is abandoning plans to construct a second corporate headquarters New York City is a catastrophic loss for the city, New York state and the metropolitan region. As a New Yorker, I find it immensely disappointing to see the immediate economic impacts and future economic losses of this unfortunate move. I wholeheartedly believe that New York is a global city that should always strive to diversify its economy and compete on the world stage. Amazon would have created more than 25,000 jobs in New York City with an average annual salary of over $150,000. The

LOS ANGELES — Steven Spielberg, Lady Gaga, Spike Lee and Glenn Close have a message for Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg: Get well soon. They and three dozen Hollywood A-listers, from Bradley Cooper to Quincy Jones, have signed a card that´s being overnighted to Ginsburg on Thursday. The 85-year-old Ginsburg has missed a month of Supreme Court arguments as she recovers from the lung cancer surgery she had in December. In the card, Lee refers to Ginsburg as the "Judge of Brooklyn." Regina King wrote that she is the true, "Super Diva" in reference to a shirt Ginsburg wears

Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (D-Ariz.) came under fire Wednesday from an abortion rights group for her support of President Donald Trump’s judicial nominee Michael Liburdi. In remarks to the Senate Judiciary Committee Wednesday, Sinema praised Liburdi’s credentials, describing the nominee as a “well-respected attorney” and noting his role as general counsel for Republican Arizona Governor Doug Ducey. Sinema added that while she did not share “all of the same political beliefs” as Liburdi, he was still “professionally qualified" for the role. Trump nominated Liburdi to become a judge for the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona in January. But

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) on Thursday celebrated Amazon´s decision to cancel its plans to build a second headquarters in New York City. "Today was the day a group of dedicated, everyday New Yorkers & their neighbors defeated Amazon’s corporate greed, its worker exploitation, and the power of the richest man in the world," Ocasio-Cortez, one of the deal´s staunchest critics, wrote. The Trump administration´s new special envoy for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, clashed Wednesday with freshman Rep. Abrams fired back, calling the line of questioning "ridiculous" and refusing to respond to the personal "attack." The questioning was the latest moment in the spotlight for Omar, who earlier this week apologized for tweets considered anti-Semitic -- and who previously criticized what she described as a "US

A new generation of Democrats is using far-reaching policy ideas and a brash social media presence to upend the party — pushing it to the left on divisive issues such as health care and climate change while it charts a path aimed at taking the White House in 2020. But the liberal shift, and the lawmakers driving it, are also creating challenges for Democrats in more-conservative areas, and they are giving President Trump and congressional Republicans fresh opportunities for political attacks. The GOP has been particularly focused in recent days on hammering Democrats over draft details of a broad
