In Virginia, Democrats Are Hoist
with Their ´Intersectionality´ Petard

PJ Media, by Michael Walsh

It´s not easy being a Democrat these days. At any moment, some action or character trait that was celebrated just a few years ago suddenly becomes verboten; or some hitherto unknown social-justice concern comes flying in from left field or outer space and lands in your lap. Such is the case with the senior Democrats in the Virginia state house, who from the governor on down have suddenly been accused of behavior that was perfectly acceptable when Al Jolson, Laurence Olivier, or Harvey Weinstein used to do it. What´s a jackass to do? The New York Times is beside itself

Comments:
Dems call for the sudden repeal of Alinsky Rule No. 4. Don´t let them get away with it.

"Intersectionality", the absurd destination of identity politics, may be the last destination for the Dhims. Perhaps they can think up a fancy new word meaning "political suicide".

LIberals like to say that after Nixon´s Southern Strategy, the parties switched. Northam et al. are proof they didn´t.

"Every word she writes is a lie,” Mary McCarthy once said of Lillian Hellman, “including ‘and’ and ‘the.’” This wisecrack got her sued by the Communist author and screenwriter—the suit was dropped after Hellman’s death in 1984—but the bon mot has always seemed to me especially apt when considering the propagandists of the Left. Back in the heyday of The Group, they made themselves comfortable, and relatively invisible, in the “progressive” worlds of publishing, the theater, and Hollywood, dramatizing what today we might call their social-justice memes and themes in works of earnest, cloddish liberalism. Those great geniuses of the American

The current split in the “conservative movement”—I use scare quotes because it is only in the minds of those who consider themselves spokesmen for the “conservative movement” that the movement actually seems to exist—has created a major political division on the Right between those who understand that Donald Trump is the only president we’ve got and those whose preenciples defy reality. But it has also laid bare some fundamental philosophical economic differences that, all of a sudden, have come front and center. Principal among them is the notion of the unalloyed good of free-market capitalism, fidelity to which the “movement

As the shutdown heads into its fourth week, the nation is getting used to the radical idea that we can actually do without the fleets of bureaucrats who, in the immortal words of the Declaration of Independence, have been "sent hither to harass our people and eat out their substance." For decades, as the federal leviathan has grown ever larger, and poked its voracious snout into all manners of unconstitutional fodder, the people of the United States have largely sat idly by, hoping to catch some of the droppings from the creature´s maw in the belief that it will not

If there’s one thing about Donald Trump all right-thinking folks can wholeheartedly celebrate, it’s the way he’s made the masks slip on so many alleged conservatives. First to go were the #NeverTrumpumpkins (no names, please!), as their magazines foundered and their reputations declined along with the quality of their shticks. Also out the door are many, if not most, of the “neocons” (Max Boot, Jennifer Rubin, et al.) who have abandoned their alliance of convenience with the post-9/11 War Department and have returned to their progressive roots.

New Year´s Resolutions for the White House

After a tumultuous first two years in the White House, the Trump administration — which is effectively just the president himself — is at an inflection point. The Democrats have retaken the House, the markets are volatile, the Fed is raising interest rates, the special counsel is still pursuing him, the Middle East is in chaos, and there’s no border wall yet. So how should Donald Trump head into 2019? Herewith, a list of New Year’s resolutions for him to consider: Build the "danged fence." Finding the funds won’t get any easier next year with the opposition party controlling the

President Trump’s decisions to withdraw from Syria and to start drawing down the number of our troops in Afghanistan should come as welcome news to all Americans. The pointless wars in the Middle East and the Hindu Kush have been going on since 9/11—longer if you count the entirely unnecessary incursion into Iraq in 1991—and have brought only misery in their wake. If Trump does nothing else but put an end to the endless wars bequeathed to us by the house of Bush, his will have been a consequential presidency. That these orders have seemingly resulted in the resignation of

On the centenary of his birth, we see that Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn was right, not once but twice. In appearance he was more akin to an Old Testament prophet—Jeremiah, say—than a Nobel Prize-winning Russian dissident writer, a man who had emerged from his long captivity in the Soviet Union only to find the supposedly superior West wanting as well. Honored as the author of The Gulag Archipelago, which finally persuaded even the most diehard of the Stalinist apologists that the USSR left something to be desired in the human rights department, Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn came to be feared in his adopted homeland

It looks bad for Elizabeth Warren´s hopes to move into the Big Teepee in Washington:The plan was straightforward: After years of being challenged by President Trump and others about a decades-old claim of Native American ancestry, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts would take a DNA test to prove her stated family origins in the Cherokee and Delaware tribes. But nearly two months after Ms. Warren released the test results and drew hostile reactions from prominent tribal leaders, the lingering cloud over her likely presidential campaign has only darkened. Conservatives have continued to ridicule her. More worrisome to supporters of Ms.

Amidst the lavish praise for the late president, George H.W. Bush, allow me to offer a contrarian view. As we learned from the funeral of the non-president, John McCain, the leftist media has rarely met an ineffective Republican politician they didn’t want to celebrate when he passed, no matter what they’d said about him during his time here on Earth. In the interests of “bipartisanship,” “comity,” and “civility,” the years the dearly departed moved among us are seen retrospectively as a kind of Golden Age, when Republicans lost graciously to the designated Democrat, whether as a first-time candidate or

"Where´s the outrage?" asked Bob Dole back during his hopeless presidential campaign against Bill Clinton. But few enough folks were outraged by Slick Willie´s friskiness with both women and the truth that Clinton was easily re-elected. Back in the days when "everybody lied about sex" and Democrats were extolling the virtues of hypocrisy, nobody had much time for outrage; the old moral order was changing and iconoclasm ruled the world. Dole may as well have been spitting into the wind: Appearing at downtown performing arts center, where he stood before a giant mural depicting the glory days of the Lone

WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi warned President Donald Trump on Thursday that a future Democratic president could declare a national emergency to achieve an agenda, such as gun control policy. Responding to the president’s announcement that he will declare a national emergency related to the U.S. southern border, Pelosi maintained that “Democratic presidents can declare emergencies as well. So the precedent that the president is setting here is something that should be met with great unease and dismay by the Republicans.” (Photos) Speaker Pelosi told reporters at her weekly press conference, “You want to talk about a national

It has been two and a half weeks since Jussie Smollett reported that he was the victim of a hate crime, and in that time, his story has fallen apart completely. (snip) the home of the two "persons of interests" in the widely circulated community alert was raided by Chicago police. In that raid, they seized a list of items including multiple containers of bleach, a "red hat," an Empire script, a Mossberg rifle, and two computers. The home is occupied by the two men, and at least one is an extra on Jussie Smollett´s show, Empire.

On Wednesday, May 10, 2017, my first full day on the job as acting director of the FBI, I sat down with senior staff involved in the Russia case—the investigation into alleged ties between the Trump campaign and the Russian government. As the meeting began, my secretary relayed a message that the White House was calling. The president himself was on the line. I had spoken with him the night before, in the Oval Office, when he told me he had fired James Comey. A call like this was highly unusual. Presidents do not, typically, call FBI directors.

Atlanta—A federal labor union says some of its members found what it called a “racist book open and on display” in a Republican Georgia congressman’s Washington office. The American Federation of Government Employees said in a news release that its members were visiting the offices of U.S. Rep. The union said the 1897 book that glorifies Confederate history was open to a page that read: “The blacks are immeasurably

The Trump administration´s new special envoy for Venezuela, Elliott Abrams, clashed Wednesday with freshman Rep. Abrams fired back, calling the line of questioning "ridiculous" and refusing to respond to the personal "attack." The questioning was the latest moment in the spotlight for Omar, who earlier this week apologized for tweets considered anti-Semitic -- and who previously criticized what she described as a "US

Washington — Millions of Americans are waiting for Robert Mueller to give them the final word on whether the Trump campaign conspired with the 2016 Russian election interference effort — and whether their president is under the influence of a foreign adversary. Millions of Americans may be sorely disappointed. Unless Mueller files a detailed indictment charging members of the Trump campaign with conspiring with Russia, the public may never learn the full scope of what Mueller and his team has found — including potentially scandalous behavior that doesn´t amount to a provable crime.
