VA Evicts Groups that Help Vets;

The Los Angeles Veterans Affairs (VA) facility that illegally rents its sprawling grounds to institutions that don’t serve veterans just evicted several groups dedicated to veterans, including a nonprofit that for decades has comforted dying vets and another that helps those who are disabled. While the VA gave the volunteer organizations the boot without offering an explanation, it continues housing a parking lot for nearby upscale shops, a university baseball stadium, a dog park for the professional dog walkers of affluent residents, and athletic fields for a fancy prep school. It marks the latest of several scandals involving the misuse

The LA VA is the worst. They were zero help to me after I was discharged after Desert Storm.

Had it not been for my Uncle, a Vietnam vet recognizing the signs and intervening, I might have been another statistic.

The VA in San Francisco (associated with UCSF Medical School) and the Portland VA (associated with Oregon Health and Science University) have provided great service.

Unless the LA VA becomes associated with something like the UCLA Medical School, they should be shuttered. Well the land it is on, it´s prime real estate, take the profits and build a VS facility that actually serve s Veterans.

I´ve been a 100% disabled veteran since I was 20 years old. I´m 64 now. The VA is the only health care I have ever had. People have no idea how bad the VA really is. I am now 64 and have never seen a doctor. All I ever see is nurses and Physician´s assistants who have no clue who I am and couldnt possibly care less. If I were to get cancer my "oncologist" would be a physicians assistant. I would have no chance of survival. If Trump wants to help veterans he should get rid of the VA. It should never have been created in the first place.

All Veterans have my complete, unending respect and love. You absolutely deserve the best care and I am sorry you cannot get it. It is appalling. It disgusts me. My Dad was in the Navy but never had to rely on the VA and for that I am grateful. I hope and pray we can fix this mess. God bless each and every one of you. Thank you, President Trump for attempting a fix. Let’s get this done. Let’s roll.

The medical facility, which sits on land donated by Arcadia Bandini de Stearns Baker in 1887,[1] was previously known as the Sawtelle Veterans Home.

In 2011 a group of homeless veterans sued the center, claiming that the VA was renting land in the center for commercial gain and ignoring the needs of homeless veterans for housing.[1][2] In 2015, as part of the settlement of the 2011 lawsuit,[3] the Department of Veterans Affairs released a draft master plan for the future of the campus.[2]

More here:

Mrs. Baker would have owned this prime piece of property via an original Spanish land grant. The Bandini family had very large land grant holdings.

The VA seems to have attracted some very dishonest officials. It sounds as though Judicial Watch is working tirelessly to get this rectified. An amazing organization...

I´m a wounded vet from Vietnam 1967-1968. I receive 100% VA health care. Now, I live in Las Vegas. Our care here has been absolutely exemplary. Why it is so different from other VA facilities, I have no idea. This LA VA debacle seems like a real nightmare to me. Why does this happen? How is it possible these VA Boss Bureaucrats are not audited and supervised properly astounds me.

35 years ago, I worked for 11 years in the State penitentiary system of New Mexico. I saw first-hand bureaucratic corruption from the inside out. My nickname in Santa Fe was, "The Warden Killer" because I got so many wardens fired for blatant corruption. If I saw corruption, I gathered the evidence and submitted my report to the State Attorney General and if no action came, I went to the legislature. It was one Hell of a ride for me and my family- that´s why I only made 11 years. But, nothing I did ever changed any of the Bosses that came along afterward. They are so impressed with themselves as the Big Boss, they think they can get away with anything. This must be what drives the corruption at the LA VA.

Corruption has been a part of the VA from its inception. Even President Trump, who knows of the problems, is trying to fit the square peg into the round hole. It don´t fit and it never will. Ask how many of those VA employees who were involved in killing veterans were fired? I vote to get rid of it. I too am a 100%, permanent and total, service connected disabled veteran and I find it depressing to go to the VA for anything. The benefits side of the VA is no better than the medical side. The abuses are well known and nothing gets done to change it. It doesn´t need to be "fixed" it needs to be shutdown. Many $billions have been spent trying to fix it and the same problems exist. How far do most people who are not veterans have to drive to go to the hospital or for treatment or to see a doctor? We must find a way if it is not more than 40 miles. That means when we are in a hospital we are not close to our family. In a CNN 2014 report there was a report were the VA medical services had killed over 1,000 veteran through incompetence or lack of care. And there are the cases of veterans committing suicide waiting for services.

Congratulations, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez! You just killed 25,000 jobs for urban Democrats in one of the most racially and ethnically diverse areas in the entire world! Congresswoman AOC, the thought leader of the Democratic party, was the loudest and feistiest political opponent when Amazon announced it would build (half of) its second headquarters in Long Island City, Queens, promising to create 25,000 jobs and generate some $27.5 billion in tax revenue over the next 25 years. Amazon employs a range of people from unskilled workers to tech geniuses and would have pumped large amounts of money into the city economy.

I´m in the middle of renovating a house, so it´s probably not surprising that when I started reading Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez´s (D-N.Y.) FAQ for a Green New Deal, published Thursday by NPR, I was immediately struck by a casual proposal to "upgrade or replace every building in US for state-of-the-art energy efficiency." Homeowners tend to start renovations hoping to make their houses greener and more energy efficient, if only for reasons of parsimony. They quickly discover that what they lightheartedly imagined to be a few minor upgrades are in fact massive expenses. All they wanted was energy-efficient windows, better insulation,

In the latter half of the 19th century and early in the 20th century, as Catholic immigrants poured in from Ireland and eastern Europe, an anti-Catholic wave spread over a mostly Protestant United States. The majority slur then was that Catholic newcomers´ first loyalty would be to "Rome," not the U.S. Anti-Semitism grew even more deeply rooted, marked by Ivy League quotas on Jewish applicants and exclusionary clauses against Jews in clubs and neighborhoods. It was no accident that the Ku Klux Klan often targeted Catholics and Jews as well as African-Americans. In the late 19th century, with the influx of Japanese
