Jill Abramson Faces Accusations of
Plagiarism in New Book ‘Merchants of Truth’

Variety, by Erin Nyren

Original Article

Posted By:StormCnter, 2/7/2019 6:20:47 AM

UPDATED: Former executive editor of the New York Times Jill Abramson took to Twitter to acknowledge the accusations of plagiarism in her new book “Merchants of Truth” that emerged Wednesday. “I take seriously the issues raised,” she continued in a follow-up tweet, “and will review the passages in question.” Abramson also addressed the alleged inaccuracies regarding Vice News that some have posed: “The attacks on my book from some @vicenews reflect their unhappiness with what I consider a balance portrayal.”

Comments:
I have long despised Jill Abramson for her decades long crusade against Justice Clarence Thomas. Karma is sweet.

He was “Big Newk” in every way. Don Newcombe, who died Tuesday at age 92, was the biggest guy on the field, as the 6-4, 225-pound pitching ace of the 1950’s “Boys of Summer” Dodgers in Brooklyn, who became the first of only two players in baseball history to win Rookie of the Year, Most Valuable Player and Cy Young Award honors – and was likewise a big man off it, as a pioneer in breaking down racial barriers in baseball and later as the game’s foremost spokesman on alcohol and drug abuse. During his 1949-56 prime with the Dodgers,

For the last two years, millions of Americans have come to view Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as a kind of national insurance policy. This assessment is now in need of revision. Rosenstein is the guy who appointed Special Counsel Robert Mueller to investigate whether Russia tried to interfere in the 2016 election a week after President Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey. As the president rages on Twitter, Rosenstein is seen as the avatar of what one anonymous administration called the “steady state” — the resistance to Trump from within.

El Paso’s Tigua Native American tribe suffered another major defeat this week in their quarter-century battle with Texas over casino-style gaming when a federal judge ruled that their bingo and machine games violated state law. U.S. District Judge Philip Martinez of El Paso issued a summary judgment on Thursday in favor of the state, which has gone to court multiple times over the past two decades in attempts to close the tribe’s popular Speaking Rock Casino. Martinez’s ruling relied heavily on past court decisions, including one

MILWAUKEE — Gregory Greiten was 17 years old when the priests organized the game. It was 1982 and he was on a retreat with his classmates from St. Lawrence, a Roman Catholic seminary for teenage boys training to become priests. Leaders asked each boy to rank which he would rather be: burned over 90 percent of his body, paraplegic, or gay. Each chose to be scorched or paralyzed. Not one uttered the word “gay.” They called the game the Game of Life. The lesson stuck. Seven years later, he climbed up into his seminary

Convicted ex-congressman Anthony Weiner has been sprung from prison — and is now part of a federal re-entry program in New York, records show. Weiner has been transferred from Federal Medical Center in Devens, Mass. where he served a bulk of his 21-month sentence for sexting a 15-year-old girl from North Carolina, according to Federal Bureau of Prisons records. The 54-year-old is now being supervised by the federal Residential Reentry Management, which has a field office in Sunset Park and operates multiples facilities, the records say.

Every year starting in late August and ending sometime around late February, Hollywood is consumed with winning an eight-and-a-half-pound gold trophy. Even in a world overrun with awards shows, the Oscars remain the grandest prize, and a Best Picture victory cements filmmakers and actors’ place in history. It also means that, for the rest of time, a lot of people will complain that your movie wasn’t that great and should have lost to some other movie they felt was eminently more deserving. It’s very easy to second-guess the Academy on its Best Picture picks, but while putting together

$1,973 LEDs and the Green New Deal

The Green New Deal that Democrats unveiled last week has a grand ambition to eliminate fossil fuels in 10 years, retrofit every building in America, and guarantee high-paying jobs in the bargain. If you want to see how that works in the real world, consider the public housing projects near Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s New York office. The New York City Housing Authority (Nycha) has a more modest goal of a 30% reduction in greenhouse-gas emissions by 2027. As part of its plan, Nycha is switching to LED lighting, which lasts longer than incandescent bulbs and consumes less energy.

It’s fitting that William Barr’s confirmation as attorney general happened just as two powerful law-enforcement figures were trading accusations involving President Trump. Mr. Barr’s greatest challenge isn’t antitrust deals, immigration policy or even handling special counsel Robert Mueller. His overriding challenge is to reboot a Justice Department that has shredded its reputation and lost the confidence of Congress and the public. It’s hard to feel confident in law enforcement when a former deputy director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Andrew McCabe, reveals

It is clear that the United States government, far more than the Russian one, interfered in the 2016 campaign. Figures throughout the Obama administration were using their power to investigate Hillary Clinton’s opponent and leaking that information to pols like Harry Reid and sympathetic members of the press to hurt Trump. Many of those figures — from John Brennan to James Comey to Susan Rice — appear on television these days displaying the very anti-Trump bias that drove their official actions during the campaign. We’re told gravely that the Mueller and Congressional investigations aim to protect the people’s democracy

How many other people watched the entire 80 or 85 minutes of President Trump’s rally in El Paso, Texas, Monday night on Fox? The pre-rally expectation was that this event would be an effort to build support for the border wall. Instead, it obviously was a test-run of issues for the 2020 campaign, covering everything from A to Zzz. At 9:55 ET, Sean Hannity cut away from the speech to denounce the border deal emerging in Washington. Then it was back to the rally’s remaining 40 minutes. It was strangely mesmerizing. Let me say this: Any Democrats with a stake

To prove that there´s a border emergency, President Trump must stop eating omelets! Ridiculous, you might say. And yet, on this morning´s New Day, CNN´s John Avlon, Alisyn Camerota and Jeff Toobin mocked President Trump for eating an omelet, somehow suggesting it debunks the existence of an emergency. After displaying a photo of Trump at a Mar-a-Lago omelet bar, the trio engaged in this banter:JOHN AVLON: While ´emergency´ is not defined in this statute, the dictionary definition of emergency certainly doesn´t fit this. And this weekend, he´s at Mar-a-Lago at the omelet bar, also not exactly communicating urgency. CAMEROTA: Nothing

Watching Fox News host Chris Wallace plying his trade lately on “Fox News Sunday” may leave viewers with the notion he’s working hard to impress liberal colleagues in the media. And when those liberals start praising Wallace, well, not only is it a good sign that he’s succeeding in his quest, it should also serve as notice to the Fox News host that he may want to reassess his approach. Case in point, MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart praised Wallace after Sunday’s interview of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller on President Trump‘s declaration of a national emergency on the southern border.

But there is a bright and shiny silver lining to this dingy cloud of deep state skullduggery: Donald Trump still resides in the White House while Hillary Clinton stumbles around her Chappaqua mansion in a muumuu hugging a fifth of Glenfiddich.
