Maroon 5 Barely Leaves a
Mark at Super Bowl Halftime Show

New York Times, by Jon Caramanica

Original Article

Posted By:LittleHoodedMonk, 2/4/2019 2:03:20 AM

Maroon 5 — a quasi-soul, quasi-rock, utterly funkless band — was the main attraction at the Super Bowl halftime show at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, likely the third or eighth or maybe 14th choice for a headliner. In a year in which the Super Bowl halftime show has become a referendum on political mindfulness, in which the N.F.L. has become a staging ground for conversations about racial justice in America, Maroon 5 was a cynically apt choice. (Snip) And in a year in which the political valence of the halftime show mattered more than ever, the band’s stubborn resistance was glaring.

Comments:
Maroon 5 got beached by social media for just playing their music. Then, "fake news" fake news used this as the basis for this article. Next, the Oscars?

My 85 year old Dad saw Adam Levine (I muted the entire halftime show) and started laughing at his tattoos. He said he wondered if he has any idea what those tattoos will look like when he is in his 70´s and 80´s, once the ravages of time and gravity take over!! It´ll probably look like one of those melted Crayola "candles" we made as kids!!

Although it was on all the TVs at the party we attended, everyone traditionally pays no attention to the halftime show and blather and heads for the excellent buffet. Too much fun socializing to be interested in yet another nonmusical performance where the only sparkle is the same old pyrotechnics ...

President Trump and his top advisers expressed optimism through the weekend that diplomatic efforts on denuclearization talks with Pyongyang can be revived, despite reports of North Korean ballistic missile and nuclear activity. National Security Adviser John R. Bolton sought to dampen the hype around the prospect that a North Korean missile launch could be imminent after the emergence in recent days of commercial satellite imagery appearing to show cranes at work rebuilding a key test site that Pyongyang previously vowed to destroy. “There’s a lot of activity all the time in North Korea, but I’m not going to

Former Vice President Joe Biden — who has yet to announce his candidacy — led the 20-candidate pack as the first choice of 27 percent of likely Democratic caucus-goers, and the second choice of 19 percent. Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, and Cory Booker were the next most popular, in that order. A suspected Russian assassin who MI5 believe was planning to murder an ex-prime minister was barred from entering the UK. Umar Sugaipov was prevented from coming into the country last summer because intelligence suggested he was preparing to kill Akhmed Zakayev, the former Chechen leader and enemy of Vladimir Putin. The decision to block the suspected hitman came five months after Sergei Skripal was the target of a novichok poisoning attack. Sugaipov was judged by British security officials as a ´threat to national security´ and, more specifically, the life of Mr Zakayev who was granted asylum in 2004,

There is a lot happening in Iran as the Supreme Leader shakes things up politically. While Iranians continue to protest about unpaid salaries and long queues for food, Ayatollah Khamenei is busy making preparations. The changes he is making relate to the future of the Islamic Republic and aim to guarantee that when he is gone, his loyal supporters will remain in control. One of his first moves has been to raise the political profile of Maj. Gen. Qasem Soleimani, the commander of the Quds Force. He was seen sitting beside the supreme leader when Syrian President Bashar Assad paid an unexpected visit to Tehran two weeks ago.

Six deaths, all involving men with connections to protests in Ferguson, Missouri, drew attention on social media and speculation in the activist community that something sinister was at play. Police say there is no evidence the deaths have anything to do with the protests stemming from a white police officer´s fatal shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown, and that only two were homicides with no known link to the protests.

Twelve Senate Republicans stopped Donald Trump from invoking a national emergency to pay for a wall on the southern border last Friday…three times as many senators than needed to pass it. That’s the good news. The bad news? Even more Republicans will be needed to override Trump’s veto. What’s worse is the fact that if more Republicans don’t join Democrats in overriding this veto they will provide Trump even more power when he has a history of not acting in the best interest of our country.
