Trump’s New Shutdown World
Wall Street Journal, by Kimberley A. Strassel

Original Article

This weekend the federal shutdown becomes the longest in history—and yet, and yet, the sky has not fallen. Meet the team that has allowed the Trump White House to hold out for so long, and in the process forever altered future shutdown fights. Across the street from the Oval Office, an only somewhat merry band of budget lawyers labor on one priority: making this event as painless as possible. That was the order from President Trump when the government closed, and the Office of Management and Budget was ready. Acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney

I think she got the wrong president. It was Smidgen who ordered everyone to make his shutdown as painful as possible. PDT hasn’t hired guards and put up barriers around historical sites which are open 24/7 with no Park Service rangers in attendance on a daily basis.

As far as I can tell, almost no one has even noticed the shutdown. On my daily errands and business dealings, not a single person has even mentioned it.

I admit that I quit reading after Strassel made that statement.

#1, Think you read that wrong," making this event as PAINLESS as possible."
Anyhow, still haven´t noticed shut down.

Why is government necessary? It isn´t!!

#1, she points out that Barack Obama did the exact opposite of Trump´s "painless as possible" orders. She also emphasizes that Trump´s administration people and aides worked hard to alleviate or avoid the pain where it could be done in various agencies.

Were government employees concerned about the economic shutdown during Soetoro´s reign?
Not that I could tell.
I would like to see Trump tell all these people to start looking for real jobs. The nationalized parks etc... could be handed over to the states, airport security to the airlines and so on.
Then next year another shut down and more chaff to the wind.

The mention of turning National Parks over to states would guarantee the parks falling into disrepair and closing. States waste money and I´ve seen one state park closed and now looks like a landfill today. Rest areas on the interstate were closed because there was no money to maintain them although it was spent on democrat dreamy endeavors.
The longer the shut down goes we might find out the government wastes money on duplicate jobs that aren´t needed.

I thought this was an excellent article, #1, if you´d read it to completion.

All in all, PDT is showing America that Washington isn´t the place to find its happiness and forever funding. Over 330 million people are still working. More than ever before--for the private sector. Under Obama, only the government sector grew. So, I´d say PDT is proving the point that Washington DC and all its tentacles could use some trimming back.

MAGA!!! KAG!!! Neva give in. Neva give up, Mr. President!

The $1 Million HOA Blowup: It Started

Wall Street Journal, by Jim Carlton    Original Article

OLATHE, Kan.—Soon after Jim Hildenbrand arrived in Avignon Villa Homes, a community for older adults in a Kansas City suburb, the homeowner association disputed the placement of his satellite dish. It cited him for parking cars in his driveway overnight and placing a St. Francis statue in a flower bed. He was later written up for a dead cat in a window well—which Mr. Hildenbrand suspects was planted by a neighborhood enemy. Things went downhill from there. After he installed a decorative, shin-high wall around a plant bed on the side of his house,

SAN FRANCISCO—California’s economy is adding jobs far faster than affordable places to live, forcing some employers to leave the state as they expand. Companies that move from California have historically left behind its diverse industries, renowned public universities and balmy climate for states with lower taxes and lighter regulation. But now home prices and rents, higher on average than anywhere else in the country, have surged to the top of concerns for businesses and workers. For employers, “we’re at a crisis stage,”

WASHINGTON - The Supreme Court on Tuesday endorsed the U.S. government’s authority to detain immigrants awaiting deportation anytime - potentially even years - after they have completed prison terms for criminal convictions, handing President Donald Trump a victory as he pursues hardline immigration policies. The court ruled 5-4 along ideological lines, with its conservative justices in the majority and its liberal justices dissenting, that federal authorities could pick up such immigrants and place them into indefinite detention anytime, not just immediately after they finish prison sentences.

Rep. Ilhan Omar, a freshman Democrat from Minnesota, has become widely known for her attacks on supporters of Israel. Ms. Omar is a naturalized citizen whose Somali refugee family settled in the U.S. when she was a teenager. Tens of thousands of Somali refugees relocated to the U.S.—some 25,000 in the Minneapolis area—to escape the starvation, famine and civil war that turned Somalia into a lawless, failed state in the early 1990s. Another name is worth recognition and remembrance, especially among Somali refugees: Lawrence Freedman.

It has long been a mystery how, exactly, the Devils River got its name—and what, exactly, happened to the apostrophe. But the leading theory will ring true to anyone who has attempted to navigate it. Though early Spanish explorers named the river after Saint Peter, it’s said that the settlers who followed in their footsteps regarded the waterway and its surrounding terrain as so forbidding that they thought it could have been carved by Lucifer himself. And so the gatekeeper to heaven gave way to the ruler of hell. Given that grim reputation, that off-putting name, and the river’s remote

There are just nine steps from freedom

Talk of socialism is suddenly everywhere. The journey from a free society to socialism, however, does not occur overnight. It’s a stepped process that begins slowly and ends with a rush. Here are those steps: Step 1. Massive Government Spending. Socialist states have government at the center of their economies and feature enormous spending programs. In early 1990s Sweden often cited as a socialist state, government spending exceeded 70 percent of its economy. Under President Jefferson, government spending was approximately 2 to 3 percent of the economy. Today, we are at 36 percent. Sweden, now walking away from socialism,

Do Democrats Hear Echoes of 1972 Today?

The scenario sounds familiar: Democrats, facing a Republican presidential candidate widely reviled among the party’s rank-and-file, nominate a seemingly safe establishment figure to keep their hold on the White House. To the party’s shock and horror, their establishment figure loses the general election. The reviled Republican becomes president. The party’s liberal activists seethe at the loss, arguing that their party’s establishment centrists stole the nomination at their convention and then failed to produce. In reaction, they push the party to the left and, four years later, propel a decidedly liberal candidate to the nomination.

The Democratic Crackup

Americans love a good political brawl, and that’s terrible news for Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Her Democratic Party has commenced a full throw-down—with itself. Few things have benefited Democrats more in the past few years than the Donald Trump show. The president likes to be the center of attention, and the media likes nothing more than to oblige him. This dynamic helped make the 2018 election a referendum on the man himself rather than his policies, and that made Mrs. Pelosi speaker of the House. Democrats envisioned the same dynamic helping them win the White House in 2020.

Although the military has thrown a cloak of secrecy over its operations, the unit — officially called E (or “Echo”) Company of the regiment’s Second Battalion and established less than a decade ago — is increasingly being lauded in special operations and Army aviation circles. “They are doing the most killing of anyone

New brands are seeking to transcend the rind’s reputation as a greasy gas-station staple by using premium ingredients like humanely raised pork and Himalayan pink salt. If that’s not enough to provoke a serious case of cognitive dissonance, there are even vegan alternatives.

The prior record for a 12-month period was 107,212, during the fiscal year that ended last September.
