New York needs a serious debate
before legalizing marijuana

New York Post, by Editorial

With legalization of recreational pot a central part of Gov. Cuomo’s agenda for the first 100 days of his new term, the rush is on — no matter if that’s the riskiest approach. One warning came last week from former Mets great Darryl Strawberry, who told TMZ Sports that he’s living proof of how marijuana can be a gateway drug that ruins lives. “I started with marijuana when I was young — 14, 15 years old — and it led me to everything else.” That is, to the cocaine abuse and other woes that ended his career and marred his life.

Sorry, I can´t take the Libertarian stance on this. The age-old pot vs. alcohol argument. "Clearing the gene pool" will take down MANY innocent lives in the process. That´s why we shouldn´t legalize pot, coke, heroin, meth, or any other drug. Besides which, states that have legalized it try to tax the heck out of it, so users revert to the black market anyway.

MJ should be available for medical purposes only; the damage the recreational type will do will be immesurable. But, States only care about TAXES.

The ´gateway drug´ argument can only be made empirically, so it is not a good one.

The two main arguments for it, however, are easily demolished.
The idea that because we allow one element into society that causes harm that we should let everything that causes harm in pretty much falls apart on it´s own if you have the person making that argument start expanding on the idea.
The argument that so many are breaking the law that the law should be changed likewise merely need to apply that to speeding and other things even more people do than use dope.

Are people EVER responsible for their own decisions and behaviors anymore?

There´s no law against selling caustic drain cleaners. It´s not locked behind the counter. No Federal agencies hunting down makers or suppliers. Few drink the stuff because it can kill you. It´s such an absurd notion...right?

Drugs are the same. I say let the morons have at it, and let the penalties be severe, both the legal (for any damage they cause) and physical consequences.

Colorado legalized pot five years ago, and we´re reaping the bitter harvest, including homeless encampments in downtown Denver, stoners staggering around in the suburbs, increased crime, and on Christmas Eve, the mother of four children killed in a head-on collision with an "impaired" driver who lost control of her car on I-70. Her only daughter was critically injured in the crash and has a traumatic brain injury.

Just because a county or town is "dry" doesn´t mean that nobody is buying liquor. They just buy it outside the jurisdiction, or they buy the bootleg stuff.

WASHINGTON — Former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort could spend more than 19 years in prison on tax and bank fraud charges. That’s according to a court filing Friday by special counsel Robert Mueller’s office that lays out how federal probation officials have calculated Manafort’s potential sentence. The recommended sentence under federal guidelines would be the lengthiest prison term imposed in the Russia investigation if a federal judge agreed to it. It would also place the 69-year-old Manafort at serious risk of spending the rest of his life in prison.

Trump: Ocasio-Cortez’s ‘Green New Deal’

President Trump blasted Rep. Ahead of a rally Monday in El Paso, Texas, to boost support for his proposed border wall, President Trump signaled that he is still mulling an executive order to fund the barrier if congressional negotiations break down.“President is on sound legal ground to declare a National Emergency. There have been 58 National Emergencies declared since the law was enacted in 1976, and 31 right now that are currently active, so this is hardly unprecedented,” Trump tweeted Sunday, citing Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.), who has encouraged Trump to end the stalemate by using national emergency funds to build the wall

Congressional negotiators say they’re close to reaching a deal to avert a shutdown, with Democrats acknowledging that a final compromise would include funding for border barriers — a concession that could spark rebellion within their party. Lawmakers and aides, however, said Friday that the conference committee remains several days away from a final border security deal as top spending leaders continued to trade offers back and forth. Negotiators technically have until Feb. 15 to reach an agreement to stave off another shutdown, but lawmakers insist the practical deadline for any agreement is much earlier in the week.

This essay is “dangerous,” an unidentified Never Trump friend warned Charles Kesler shortly after Michael Anton published “Flight 93 Election” on Claremont Review of Books Digital. “The only noteworthy aspect is the disgusting appropriation of the memory of the heroism of Flight 93 to make the case for Trump,” tweeted Bill Kristol, who if not the same person as the aforementioned friend, certainly shared his sentiments. In the days following publication, Kristol used Twitter to try to out the then-anonymous Decius, correctly guessing that Anton was the author.

To prove that there´s a border emergency, President Trump must stop eating omelets! Ridiculous, you might say. And yet, on this morning´s New Day, CNN´s John Avlon, Alisyn Camerota and Jeff Toobin mocked President Trump for eating an omelet, somehow suggesting it debunks the existence of an emergency. After displaying a photo of Trump at a Mar-a-Lago omelet bar, the trio engaged in this banter:JOHN AVLON: While ´emergency´ is not defined in this statute, the dictionary definition of emergency certainly doesn´t fit this. And this weekend, he´s at Mar-a-Lago at the omelet bar, also not exactly communicating urgency. CAMEROTA: Nothing

Watching Fox News host Chris Wallace plying his trade lately on “Fox News Sunday” may leave viewers with the notion he’s working hard to impress liberal colleagues in the media. And when those liberals start praising Wallace, well, not only is it a good sign that he’s succeeding in his quest, it should also serve as notice to the Fox News host that he may want to reassess his approach. Case in point, MSNBC’s Jonathan Capehart praised Wallace after Sunday’s interview of White House senior adviser Stephen Miller on President Trump‘s declaration of a national emergency on the southern border.

A lot of Americans are justifiably angry that disgraced FBI official Andrew McCabe is doing a book tour rather than a stretch in some federal penitentiary. He has committed perjury on multiple occasions, participated in an attempt to alter the outcome of a national election, and colluded with other rogue bureaucrats to remove a duly elected president from power. But there is a bright and shiny silver lining to this dingy cloud of deep state skullduggery: Donald Trump still resides in the White House while Hillary Clinton stumbles around her Chappaqua mansion in a muumuu hugging a fifth of Glenfiddich.

Do you think it likely
