Elizabeth Warren Stands by DNA Test.
But Around Her, Worries Abound.

New York Times, by Astead W. Herndon

WASHINGTON — The plan was straightforward: After years of being challenged by President Trump and others about a decades-old claim of Native American ancestry, Senator Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts would take a DNA test to prove her stated family origins in the Cherokee and Delaware tribes. But nearly two months after Ms. Warren released the test results and drew hostile reactions from prominent tribal leaders, the lingering cloud over her likely presidential campaign has only darkened. Conservatives have continued to ridicule her. More worrisome to supporters of Ms. Warren’s presidential ambitions, she has yet to allay criticism from grass-roots

Whoa! We are up against a seriously deranged mob!

Apparently the NYT thinks that Warren´s mistake was that she took the DNA test, not that she lied about her Native American ancestry.

This is a very interesting read. A completely perversion of morality and intellectual thinking. The Third Reich could not have produced anything more eloquent.

Warren is a fool. She can stand by the test results all she wants, but what it proved was that Fauxcahontas abused a tenuous link to an ethnic group to accrue undeserved education and career benefits. That´s a dagger in the heart of her claims to any kind of moral superiority which kills her dreams for higher political advancement.

Interestingly, my husband, almost all German/Irish, found out from ancestry test that he has 1% Native American blood. Family lore had it that a French-Canadian greatgrandmother had some NA blood and it is more true than Warren´s claim. Point is, what would any sane person make of this besides an interesting family footnote? Not a resume enhancer!

In a primetime address televised on Monday, French President Emmanuel Macron attempted to diffuse the ongoing populist revolt of the “yellow jacket” or “yellow vest” movement. His seemingly stiff performance and meager proposals may do little to assure the people of France that he understands the political moment. (Snip)Even worse, Macron borrowed (unwittingly, one hopes) from the Jimmy Carter songbook. “It is 40 years of malaise that is resurfacing: malaise of workers that can no longer find a place for themselves; malaise of territories, villages, neighborhoods; we see public services diminish, an environment that is disappearing; democratic malaise

WASHINGTON – The Trump administration is on the verge of moving forward with a significant rollback of an Obama-era clean water regulation that has become a rallying cry for farmers and property-rights activists opposed to federal overreach. The new proposal, whose details will be unveiled Tuesday morning by EPA Administrator Andrew Wheeler and other administration officials, is expected to ease government oversight of small bodies of water, undoing a regulation President Donald Trump has called "a massive power grab." The new rule would replace an Obama administration regulation, known as the "Waters of the United States" rule

The Trump administration is now on the clock to finalize one of the biggest changes to legal immigration policy in a generation, after the official comment period ended Monday on a plan to require immigrants to show they aren’t a public burden if they want to extend their visas or get on the path to citizenship. Immigrant rights groups and other Trump opponents mounted a feverish last-minute push to try to derail the proposal. They submitted tens of thousands of comments calling the plan misguided and racist and warned that it would keep needy immigrants from visiting doctors

The Department of Justice is requesting that the justification of an FBI raid on a reportedly recognized whistleblower’s home remain secret, according to a letter from U.S. Attorney Robert Robert Hur. The letter was sent to the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland on Dec. 7 in response to The Daily Caller News Foundation’s Nov. 30 request to unseal court documents that would show the FBI’s rationale for the raid. The documents could potentially reveal whether the bureau and the magistrate who signed the court order allowing the raid, Stephanie A. Gallagher, knew that the subject was,

There are many unpleasant jobs in the world, but somebody has to do them. One is being Donald Trump’s chief of staff, and so as he prepares to be liberated from White House bondage this month, John Kelly deserves the nation’s gratitude. Mr. Trump on Saturday announced the former general’s departure “at the end of the year,” after the typical death by a thousand White House whispers. “I appreciate his service very much,” Mr. Trump said, and he certainly should. The former homeland security secretary took the chief’s job in summer 2017 when Mr. Trump needed someone to restore order

A city on fire. Cars burnt to ashes. A national monument defaced. 10,000 tear gas canisters and stun grenades used against protestors. In one week, Paris transformed from the City of Lights into a total battle zone. It’s important to understand how we got here. A major European power was brought to its knees by a mass protest – a near revolt by its people. Even for France, these events don’t happen often. It takes major problems to cause this level of upheaval, and we should seek to understand why people would risk their lives and take to the streets.

Two decades ago, liberals argued that Bill Clinton should not be impeached for his tawdry affair with Monica Lewinsky because, well, his lies were just about sex. Today, some liberals are arguing that Donald Trump should be impeached because of Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal because, well, it´s not the sex, it´s the hush money. For well over a year, Trump´s critics have been banking on Robert Mueller to come up with evidence of Russian collusion, and there have been only disconnected fragments. So now —never mind! — it´s about women and money.

The six observations I want to add involve light lifting, at most, but may be of interest even so. First, as McCarthy says, Justice Department guidance holds that a sitting president may not be indicted. If prosecutors in the Southern District of New York decide nonetheless to indict Trump for a campaign finance infraction,
