California mandates solar panels
for homes built in 2020 and later

Fox News, by Bradford Betz

California lawmakers on Wednesday officially approved a measure that mandates all homes built in the Golden State in 2020 and beyond be solar-powered. The new standards were approved earlier this year and voted on unanimously by the California Building Standards Commission, the Orange County Register reported. Officials heralded the move as a “historical undertaking” that “will be a beacon of light for the rest of the country.” The provisions add an estimated $10,000 to the cost of building a single-family home – including more than $8,400 for installing solar and roughly $1,500 for energy efficiency. Proponents of these requirements, however

Comments:
Should be fun to see how well they are maintained. The glass often gets cloudy, soot-covered, and eventually breaks - especially during quakes.

Pass the pop corn. This "FEEL GOOD" garbage is nothing more than a money grab from contractors. Can you see house sales nose dive?
Only the emaciated vegan tree huggers will be the buyers.

This will add to the costs of already overpriced real estate and continue to drive people out of the state.

As long as the federal government doesn´t bail out California for their insane ideas and the cost of them, they can dig themselves deeper into the pit as they wish.

#2 No problem. The older homes will be required to "upgrade" with solar before owner is allowed to sell. Count on it.

Good. This will require cutting down every tall tree within shading distance. Thereby reducing the fire danger.

There must be some sort of concerted effort being made on this, because just yesterday I heard about some wacko group trying to get something like that introduced into the upcoming session of the Texas Legislature.

They have an agenda and they are going to ram it through and keep working until people relent or the get some weak legislator to wimp out due to bad media press attacking them.

Like it´s not expensive enough to build a house in California now! I wonder if the insurance companies will pay for this when the houses that recently burned up in the fires are rebuilt? They better hurry up and build before 2020- if they can get through all the permitting process in the next year! One thing for sure, insurance rates will go up, regardless.

Elon Musk´s solar company, along with his car company and his rocket company are facing a very real threat of Trump cutting off access to your wallet.
The Chinese, who make most of the solar panels, are likewise facing losing a place at the trough.
So look for this kind of thing happening all over the country.

California is the real life version of Atlas Shrugged. They keep making so many regulations "for the good of the people" that they are destroying any incentive to build, relocate, or open or operate a business there. The only reason to live there is if you want to live in a nanny state where all of your decisions are made for you by the government.

Years ago (in the 1970s) a very large multi-state development company that I worked for, that build entire communities of many hundreds of homes, discarded the idea of installing solar because it was ineffective. For many reasons it could not support a home’s entire power needs. The best it could do would be to act as backup. To heat a swimming pool. Not much else.

Another screwball Jerry Brown idea.

No matter which state you live in, I wouldn´t by buying anything solar at this time. See what happens in California. The price of solar should drastically come down. So it won´t hurt to wait it out for a few years.
The demise of this law will be the people won´t maintain their systems. They´re only good for 20 to 30 years anyway so what happens then.

Of course they could have mandated that every government building, school, university, hospital, warehouse building, and mall parking lots could have been pushed to install solar panels instead, and they would cover FAR more acreage than a bunch of homes, particularly new built homes.

It would reduce the carbon footprint, lower the energy use(costs) for every gov´t department, which would also mean they would needn´t need as much $$ in future budgets.

$10K per home? Yeah, right. And the bullet train will only cost $3B. If its mandated, the cost will easily go to $50K or higher. We reduced our San Jose water use by half, killed most of our yard and what happened? They doubled our water rates. We now live in Michigan and love it. Escaped just in time apparently...

And these Einsteins will be surprised that the higher costs of housing in the state will further aggravate the lack of "affordable" housing. Of course their solution will be to mandate that the builders lower their prices for a certain portion of the population, forcing them the raise their prices on everyone else to offset the lost revenue.

It´s the leftist way.

Assuming it worked and a percentage of homes go off the grid. Do you think power companies aren´t going to distribute their costs over the remaining customers?

Most solar homes are never fully off the grid: they retain commercial power for emergencies, panel failures, and long gray weather conditions (wildfires?).
Power plants can´t be shut down and started ´at will´. They will run all the time, anyway.

I´ve been to California, from San Diego to San Francisco and while it is a very pretty state, I don´t see the appeal of living there. With stunts like this, the outrageous taxation as well as high housing costs, etc. I don´t understand why anyone would want to live there.

It´s worse than Europe in some aspects(!) and I´ve lived in Europe, as a citizen, for many years...so I know.

Don’t forget it costs a lot of money per year to clean these panels because the more dust and dirt that accumulates on them the less efficient they are. These panels will add additional costs to construction for structural engineering the new loads on the roof framing, walls and foundations as well as additional costs for all of the supporting structures. Next we will see the all wise and knowing state mandate guacamole be served at every meal. Thus giving the avocado farmers in Mexico a real boost in sales.

California is not the only state infected by communists, nor are we the epicenter sending voter-agents across the country to spread the virus. Every state, whether blue, red, or purple, already have the pathogens in their systems.

California, New York, Illinois, Massachusetts and so many others are the laboratories where new strategies and tactics are tried, and then farmed out to the purple and red states. If the Republicans were truly anti-communists, we could have a fighting chance but that is just not reality. It is the legislatures and governors that pass these oppressive laws, not the voters of a state. The Dims picked up control of more legislatures and governor offices this mid-term.

California is my birthright and I’m staying. Why move when there is no “safe” state that will not be taken over slowly and stealthily in the same way that tarnished the Golden State. Each of us has to fight for our state, for our country, and right now for our President. Donald Trump is our only hope to save our Constitution.

Moving out of socialist states is not the answer, it’s just moving pieces around on the game board. Did we all abandon America when Obola was in charge? Stay, fight, win.

MAGA

If you live in Palm Springs, sunshine probably hits your rooftop 320 days a year.

If you live in Eureka, 40+ inches of rain hits your rooftop every year - 10 times as much as in Palm Springs. (23+ inches falls on Nancy´s house in San Francisco every year.)

If there´s any one state that´s an unlikely candidate for mandatory solar panels across-the-state, it would be California.

(But that´s just the common sense in me... and what do I know, compared with the California Building Standards Commission?)

#7, understand that the business folks who will benefit greatly from ENFORCED PURCHASING of their (probably overpriced, since the buyer MUST BUY) solar systems will be very, very interested in all state legislatures pushing this kind of law.

Businesses LOVE customers being required to purchase their wares. And they will send money back to the legislators as bribes and campaign contributions in great numbers.

Look at ethanol. Bad idea, costs more, lowers gas mileage, harms all small engines that are not run with great regularity, yet can the 200 million people that hate it get it stopped? Of course not, the corn farmers and the ethanol distillers have the legislatures all bribed and paid up, can´t stop it.

Solar panels on homes will be the same if we let it get a foothold. Kill this in the beginning or have it forever.

Too late, #13. The liberal virus has already spread from Commiefornia to Washington, Oregon, Colorado, Arizona and to a certain extent back east. If you meet new neighbors moving in and they say they are from California, sell your home quickly and move to the Midwest.

Residents may brag that California has a lot of industry and opportunities but you have to live in misery, crawl on freeways, pay outrageous taxes and suffer fools for politicians to take advantage of them. It may be worth it for some but not if you want to stay sane. Just look at Pelosi, Moonbeam, Feinstein, Maxine, Schiff and Harris, those wild buggy eyes and insane rhetoric say it all.

The questioning was the latest moment in the spotlight for Omar, who earlier this week apologized for tweets considered anti-Semitic -- and who previously criticized what she described as a "US

‘You can feel it now’: New Democrats

A new generation of Democrats is using far-reaching policy ideas and a brash social media presence to upend the party — pushing it to the left on divisive issues such as health care and climate change while it charts a path aimed at taking the White House in 2020. But the liberal shift, and the lawmakers driving it, are also creating challenges for Democrats in more-conservative areas, and they are giving President Trump and congressional Republicans fresh opportunities for political attacks. The GOP has been particularly focused in recent days on hammering Democrats over draft details of a broad

“Redemption.” That word was used repeatedly as five black leaders from across Virginia gathered Monday urging state legislators to rescind statements calling for Gov. Ralph Northam’s resignation following his blackface photo scandal. On the steps of the Capitol, former Richmond City Council Member Henry “Chuck” Richardson read a prepared statement, saying that racial issues in the U.S. still permeate virtually every aspect of American life. “There are no more complex, abiding and haunting questions in America than those surrounding race,” Richardson said. “And through it all is the constant that though we have come far, we still have

Joy Behar and Meghan McCain had yet another a heated exchange during Monday’s episode of The View. The two women, who have a habit of butting heads on the show, found themselves at odds while discussing President Donald Trump‘s tweet about Senator Amy Klobuchar. The senator was mocked by Trump after she announced her bid for presidency over the weekend. In a tweet, the president said it was “bad timing” for her to talk “proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures.” As Behar, 76, introduced the topic, McCain, 34, added

It has been two and a half weeks since Jussie Smollett reported that he was the victim of a hate crime, and in that time, his story has fallen apart completely. (snip) the home of the two "persons of interests" in the widely circulated community alert was raided by Chicago police. In that raid, they seized a list of items including multiple containers of bleach, a "red hat," an Empire script, a Mossberg rifle, and two computers. The home is occupied by the two men, and at least one is an extra on Jussie Smollett´s show, Empire.

Friday on KABC radio in Los Angeles, conservative commentator Ann Coulter reacted to President Donald Trump saying she was “off the reservation,” during his press conference this morning. Explaining that building the border wall was Trump’s mandate, Coulter said, “It was one thing, the promise he made every single day at every single speech.” She added, “So forget the fact that he’s digging his own grave. This is just — look the only national emergency is that our president is an idiot.” Coulter did praise the president regarding the courts by saying, “In defense of Trump supporters and those who fell for his

Sen. Kamala D. Harris (D-Calif.) is running to become the first black female president. But in the early days of the campaign, she’s had to answer questions about the “legitimacy” of her “blackness.” Online, stories have circulated suggesting that Harris is not African American because her parents are immigrants and she spent some of her childhood in Canada. During an appearance on “The Breakfast Club” radio show Monday, hosts DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God asked Harris about that. Harris pushed back. “I’m black, and I’m proud of being black. I was born black. I will die black,”

President Donald Trump demanded Wednesday evening that the State of California return $3.5 billion in federal funds after Gov. Gavin Newsom canceled most of the state’s high-speed rail project, saying it was too expensive. “California has been forced to cancel the massive bullet train project after having spent and wasted many billions of dollars,” the president tweeted. “They owe the Federal Government three and a half billion dollars. We want that money back now. Whole project is a “green” disaster!”

The GOP Majority Leader in the Senate persuaded President Donald Trump to not veto the GOP’s flawed border security bill by promising to back a national emergency construction of border walls, according to insider leaks to the establishment media. The Washington Post reported that “Trump had been leaning against supporting the congressional spending bill but relented after several conversations with [Majority Leader Sen. Mitch] McConnell, who then announced his agreement to go along with an emergency declaration.” One reason for Trump’s last-minute opposition is that congressional leaders conducted the negotiations without significant White House involvement.

The two hottest commodities in the Democratic Party are Ilhan Omar and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Earlier this week, Omar exhibited stunning ignorance in her hostile questioning of Elliott Adams Abrams. Similarly, Ocasio-Cortez has often displayed a surprising lack of knowledge for someone who apparently is a college graduate. Don’t get me started on the “Green New Socialism.” But she outdid herself yesterday. The context was Amazon’s announcement that it would not, after all, build a second corporate headquarters in Long Island City, which I understand is close to, but not within, Ocasio-Cortez’s district. The project reportedly would have entailed

Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld launched a presidential exploratory committee in New Hampshire Friday, making him the first Republican officially eying a longshot GOP primary challenge to President Donald Trump. “I’m here because I think our country is in grave peril,” Weld said at an announcement at a “Politics and Eggs” breakfast in New Hampshire, a frequent stop for presidential candidates. “I cannot sit quietly on the sidelines any longer.” "We cannot sit passively as our precious democracy slips quietly into darkness," he said. Weld, who served as governor in the Bay State from 1991 to 1997, was the Libertarian Party

WASHINGTON— What is happening to the Democrats? Captivated by a handful of liberal superstars, they are venturing where the party has long feared to tread: Steep taxes on the rich. Abolishing an immigration enforcement agency. Proposing "economic transformation" to combat climate change. Gleefully waving goodbye to a big business — and its jobs. On Thursday, newly-elected Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez led a chorus of cheers as Amazon announced it was abandoning plans to build a sought-after headquarters in New York City. Activists berated the online giant for a $3 billion package of tax breaks she said the city could better invest

If Washington, D.C. were a better place, former FBI deputy director Andrew McCabe would be swiftly run out of town. He was fired last year for lying to the FBI’s inspector general at least four times regarding serious questions about multiple abuses that occurred while McCabe sat in a powerful and unelected office. These abuses included working with former FBI director James Comey to set up former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus for obstruction charges, slow-walking and sabotaging the investigation of yet unseen Hillary Clinton emails found on Anthony Weiner’s computer just before the 2016 election,

Andrew McCabe is a national disgrace. He was part of the most corrupt and most partisan leadership team in FBI history and was fired for being dishonest under oath. And yet, America owes him a big thank-you. McCabe, you see, has reminded us once again that there really is a powerful deep state, and that there has not been a full accounting of rampant FBI misconduct during the presidential campaign of 2016. There is also still too much we don’t know about the role top aides to then-President Barack Obama and higher-ups in the Justice Department

WASHINGTON – Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s relationship with boyfriend Riley Roberts is official. Roberts has been granted a government “house.gov” email address so he can access Ocasio-Cortez’s congressional calendar, the 29-year-old congresswoman confirmed Friday. Spouses of members of Congress are afforded privileges, such as a House email address, a congressional pin to bypass security and a House license plate to enter Capitol grounds and enjoy parking privileges, House aides say. While he’s not officially a spouse, Roberts can have access to House email for calendar purposes, according to the office of the Chief Administrative Officer of the House. “From time to

Andrew McCabe on Friday denied that he knew of an effort to oust President Trump using the 25th Amendment, saying he never had “any extended discussions” about the matter and was unaware of such talks. “At no time did Mr. McCabe participate in any extended discussions about the use of the 25th Amendment, nor is he aware of any such discussions,” his spokeswoman, Melissa Schwartz, said in a statement on Twitter, adding that his remarks about the issue were taken out of context. She said McCabe “was present and participated in a discussion that included a comment by Deputy Attorney
