Kroger quarterly same-store
sales fall short of estimates

U.S. supermarket chain Kroger Co (KR.N) reported quarterly same-store sales that fell just short of analysts’ estimates on Thursday, hit by disruptions caused by the company revamping stores to give more shelf space to its best-selling products. The company’s shares fell nearly 3 percent to $27.80 in premarket trading. Kroger has warned that the remodeling will weigh on sales this year as customers find it harder to locate groceries, but will help drive revenue in the long run. The company said same-store sales, excluding fuel, rose 1.6 percent. Analysts on average had expected a 1.65 percent increase, according to IBES

They need to update those signs that tell you which items are in the aisle. Half the time the item I´m looking for has been moved somewhere else.

Sales rose ´only 1.6%´....Kroger will get a boost from Whole Food shoppers escaping Bezos turning it into Sams Club...Kroger is ramping up their offerings and can´t beat the breadth of products offered. Good job Kroger - let the analysts sweat over their little spreadsheets - keep your customers happy...

Typical corporate screw ups.
Analyze the situation decide to cut back on toilet paper and hand towels in the restrooms to save cost. Make the decision while dining in a lavish hotel over ice sculptures with jumbo shrimp and high quality liquor at a bar with fake Greek columns and purple drapes in the background.
This actually happened at a company I worked for many years ago. They didn´t know when they invited me that I worked at the bottom rung of the company where they cut the purchase of toilet paper and hand towels. I did enjoy the whiskey, the shrimp and the trip to Houston.
Kroger is a nice store I hope this can be fixed quickly for the shoppers and store employees.

I have 2 Kroger stores in our suburb. The larger one is still in middle of huge remodel. Not logical in placement, nothing intuitive about it. It is now TOO large, too spread out and people complain all the time in the aisles. Ramped up Starbucks stores in both - neither have that much business going on at any point that I shop, and I shop a variety of hours.

Things that should be together are NOT, and combine that w a huge push to self-checkout, angers customers.

Not very many like the self-checkout stands and the handheld scanners, b/c they are poorly staffed for problem scans, bags are challenge to open. They stand mostly unused. People want a check-out person.

Same here, #4, but I like what they have done. Couldn´t find what I was looking for after the remodel for a few trips but it´s OK now. Some items seem to be in odd places and I have to look a little harder.

All in all, a very nice store. If their sales missed some target, it´s probably increased competition. We now have a Walmart Fresh Market about two blocks from my home. OK for some things but they must buy their meat from the worst processor in the country. The steaks are so tough they are actually inedible.

I love my Kroger and their produce selections are fresh and if you can´t find it at a Kroger, it´s not grown anywhere. My daughter and I joke about the olive bars. Mine went through renovations and it was not fun but we´re on track now. They also have an expensive chocolate selection I´m becoming addicted to.

Sales will drop "as customers find it harder to locate groceries"?

OK, so maybe better signage and STOP moving the food around?

I shop at three different groceries. Each one has taken me a good bit of time to figure out where they ´hide´ the various things I am looking for. After a dozen trips, I can start having a good idea where common things are, but often they are just baffling as to where they put things. And of course, two stores of the same chain have NOTHING located even roughly similarly inside.

Maybe an index online to tell you where to look? I like Home Depot and Lowe´s having their info on their web site telling you which aisle and which bay the item is in.
Could a supermarket do the same? Perhaps they do, I have never looked online for my supermarket.

I have the 2 Kroger stores - both remodeled and revamped totally - within 2 miles of each other. I have a higher end Aldi that opened 4 months ago.

Just down the main drag is a WalMart and Sam´s, neither of which I ever step into for a variety of reasons. They are in another suburb, but just down the road. Within 15 mins, I have 3 Whole Foods markets (3!), 2 Trader Joe´s, Fresh store, Lucky´s Market, Costco, and 4 Giant Eagle stores or MarketPlace upscale stores.

We are saturated in our market, but it is the retail test market heaven for the rest of the country. We get everything.

I went to one Kroger for years, then they remodeled it. They took out all the center aisles and put everything I actually bought in the middle of those aisles which were now twice as long so I had to walk more than I wanted to for simple errands. So I switched to an unremodeled store. Every time I go in there, I find they have stopped carrying something I have bought for years. So I looked around and I´ve found those things at Walmart and other places.

Kroger wonders where I went. I would have stayed, but they left me. There it is.

Get out your gloves and scarves, Columbia. After a weekend full of chilly rain, forecasters are predicting the area may be getting a little snow. A mix of snow and rain is expected to fall on the Columbia-area Sunday night into Monday morning, National Weather Service Forecaster Jeff Linton said Friday. Because of the rain that is expected to accompany the icy precipitation, Linton said the snow likely will not stick or accumulate on the ground. If the forecast shifts and temperatures drop more than already expected, that increases the chance of a white dusting on the grass Monday morning, he
