George H.W. Bush: Four perfect
eulogies for an incredible life

Washington Times, by Joseph Curl

Original Article

Posted By:Pluperfect, 12/6/2018 5:15:53 AM

How do you take a man — a 94-year-old man, a man who spent his life in service of his country, enlisting in the military at 18 years old to serve in World War II, where his plane was shot down and he barely escaped capture, a man who went on to become a congressman, an ambassador to China, a CIA director, a vice president and the 41st president of United States — and sum up his life in a 90-minute memorial? George Herbert Walker Bush had a plan, and it was wild enough to work.

From W’s eulogy - “Hatred corrodes the container it’s carried in.“

So true and we see it daily in the likes of Joy Behar and Mark Lamont Hill, just to name two recent examples.

I also saw it as a point being directed to most of those seated in the presidential row and to the media.

President Bush would have added another four years of the Presidency to his remarkable C.V. had it not been for billionaire third party candidate Ross Perreau gumming up the works to get Bill Clinton elected instead. I´m surprised none of the media has mentioned this, at least none I´ve heard.

I was driving and listening on the radio. It was a great example for our children and grandchildren and I was thinking that it should have been shown as a civics lesson for our schools. The decency and civility added to learning about the life of a great patriot would have been worth it, However, the fact that it was conducted in a cathedral and God was mentioned would have lit the hair of liberal teachers on fire!

Study: Voter ID Laws Don’t Stop People Voting
Washington Free Beacon, by Charles Fain Lehman    Original Article

Strict voter ID laws do not suppress turnout, a new paper finds, regardless of sex, race, Hispanic identity, or party affiliation. Requiring photo ID to vote is a hotly contested subject in American political discourse. Proponents argue that it is necessary to insure against fraud and preserve the integrity of the American electoral system. Opponents argue that it will disenfranchise otherwise eligible voters—many of whom would be poor and of color—who are unable to easily obtain ID. In total, 10 states, ranging from Georgia to Wisconsin, require voters to show ID in order to vote.

Still no verdict in El Chapo
trial as jurors get grumpy

Jurors in the trial of drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman were showing signs of discord Monday afternoon as they wrapped their fifth day of deliberations without reaching a verdict. Some members of the jury cast irate glances at their fellow panelists as they sat in Brooklyn federal court and asked to review even more witness testimony from the months-long trial — and whether they actually need to reach a unanimous decision on specific allegations against the accused kingpin. “Does a violation have to be proven or not proven unanimously?” the jurors asked in a note to Judge Brian Cogan.

The news came in a recent issue of the Frankfurter Allgemeine (FAZ): “Two years after President Trump´s inauguration, the Germans have lost much of their trust in the United States.” Eighty-five percent of respondents in an Atlantik-Brücke survey, reported FAZ, view the U.S. either “negatively” or “very negatively.” Many Germans look more favorably upon Communist China than upon the U.S.; more than half would like Germany to distance itself further from the U.S., with only thirteen percent wanting a closer relationship. Germans aren’t big on NATO, either: Only a quarter of those surveyed

The woman who has accused Virginia’s lieutenant governor, Justin E. Fairfax, of raping her said that a former N.B.A. player, Corey Maggette, raped her at Duke University 20 years ago and that school officials did not pursue the claim, according to a childhood friend of the woman and Facebook messages the woman exchanged with another friend. Mr. Maggette, who attended Duke for one year, 1998-99, and reached the national championship game, played in the N.B.A. until 2013 and has since worked as a television analyst for Fox Sports.

Newly released internal FBI emails showed the agency´s highest-ranking officials scrambling to answer to Hillary Clinton´s lawyer in the days prior the 2016 presidential election, on the same day then-FBI Director James Comey sent a bombshell letter to Congress announcing a new review of hundreds of thousands of potentially classified emails found on former Rep. Anthony Weiner´s laptop. The trove of documents turned over by the FBI, in response to a lawsuit by the transparency group Judicial Watch, also included discussions by former FBI lawyer Lisa Page concerning a potential quid-pro-quo between the State Department and the FBI --

I hate to say “I told you so,” but in the case of Elizabeth Warren I’m afraid I must. In October I warned Bay State voters that if re-elected, Sen. Warren would dump us for higher office faster than her pal Bernie Sanders blew through $300,000 — and the ozone — flying private jets last fall while screaming about a climate apocalypse. Now that Warren’s run for commander in chief is official, let’s take a peek inside her teepee and see what the 1/1024th Native American “chief” is offering. On Saturday she told the crowd,

In every presidential election cycle, there’s a sleeper — a candidate not expected to get far who catches fire. Sometimes that candidate goes all the way. Barack Obama and Donald Trump did. Other times the candidate falls short, but only after exceeding expectations and, to one degree of another, giving more heralded candidates a scare. Examples are Howard Dean, Mike Huckabee, Rick Santorum, and Bernie Sanders. Sen. Cory Booker might be this year’s sleeper. I say this for several reasons. First, he’s the “blackest” member of the Democratic field, at least so far. Kamala Harris is only half black.

Sexting is so commonplace that 88% of participants -- men and women -- in a 2015 study said they´d done it. So common that research psychologist Peggy Drexler wonders if there´s even any stigma attached to it. So common that, as we found out last week, even someone as high-profile as Amazon founder Jeff Bezos said that an outlet threatened to release compromising photos of him. If it´s done in a consensual relationship,

More than 40% of insect species are declining and a third are endangered, the analysis found. The rate of extinction is eight times faster than that of mammals, birds and reptiles. The total mass of insects is falling by a precipitous 2.5% a year, according to the best data available, suggesting they could vanish within a century. The planet is at the start of a sixth mass extinction in its history, with huge losses already

At least one newspaper says it has dropped the syndicated cartoon "Non Sequitur" after a vulgar message to President Donald Trump appeared in it. The Butler Eagle in Pennsylvania reported Sunday that the "shot at President Donald Trump" will cost cartoonist Wiley Miller "his place in the Eagle´s Sunday comics." A scribbled message in one panel of that day´s cartoon appears to begin with "We fondly say go ..." followed by the message to Trump. Ron Vodenichar, Eagle publisher and general manager, said in the paper that the paper was alerted about the message by a reader and included a syndicated comic strip.

John Dingell, who served his country and the people of Michigan for six decades, died Feb. 7. We join the rest of Washington in offering our prayers for his soul and his family. Our job, though, is one of telling the truth without fear or favor. The niceties most people extend to the recently deceased cannot be steadfastly observed by journalists when the deceased is a public figure, particularly one who has wielded as much power and helped shape Washington as much as Dingell has. We’re not suggesting Dingell deserves extraordinary opprobrium. Instead, we’re saying John Dingell embodied Congress and official Washington

There are no areas in which liberals, progressives, leftists, socialists, or whatever they want to call themselves this week, are working for the betterment of American citizens or to advance the cause of individual liberty. Their entire existence appears to be just the opposite. That’s why they must be destroyed. Rush Limbaugh, if I remember correctly, used to talk about wanting to keep a few liberals around so future generations could see that they were once real. That was in the 90s, when they still had a grasp on reality.

In December 2014, I had an abortion at 29 weeks, after my first baby was diagnosed with a brain abnormality called lissencephaly. The early diagnosis—lissencephaly is sometimes not diagnosed until after birth—meant her case was severe and her prognosis was grim: We could expect her to live for two to six years while suffering from frequent respiratory infections and intermittently choking on her own saliva. Her cognitive development would be arrested or even reversed by painful seizures. She might have been able to smile socially and/or track motion with her eyes, but maybe not.
