Why this progressive Texan can’t

Washington Post, by Elizabeth Bruenig

If only the electric chill in the air were an augur of fast-approaching holidays and not the static generated by so many Democratic 2020 presidential hopefuls jockeying for the attention of party leaders and donors. Alas, with 2019 less than a month away, 2020 has already begun, and with it the fashioning of fresh new faces for the Democratic ticket. Among those early front-runners — at least in terms of intraparty enthusiasm — is Beto O’Rourke, the three-time congressman from El Paso who recently lost a valiant Senate run against Ted Cruz. For some well-positioned Democrats, O’Rourke —

Tall and reedy with an affable air, O’Rourke does seem fit to take up Obama’s mantle.

...on a small but drafty fireplace.

Author (young, inexperienced but very confident) doesn´t seem to have a clue about whether Beto is too far left , or too far right.

The first sentence of the second paragraph defines the liberal vision of the presidency. "Obama´s empty throne." The white house is not a castle and the chair behind the oval office´s desk is not a throne. The occupant is neither king nor queen and does not rule by royal dictate.

The American People already elected a YOUNG person, totally clueless and with absolutely no experience running anything. He came very close to ruining our country!! I don´t think we need to try that experiment again. Beto and Ortiz whatshername are BOTH not qualified to run a pop stand, let alone the country. Lets move on from that idea. We need to re-elect Trump. Let him continue to ram through the mess Obama left behind. We need him to continue with his agenda. We may not think he´s the smoothest guy when trying to articulate his ideas, but he gets the job done! He´s a fighter and that´s exactly what we need until the Deep State is eliminated!

Sorry Lizzy but the only chill I feel in the air is December weather. Whether you have two democrat candidates for POTUS or twenty-five you still have the same tired old socialist philosophies that involve giving people everything they want by robbing other people. You may call it "progressive" but in reality it´s a big step backward into old ideas that once got millions of people killed - by their own governments. Anybody who considers Beto the Clown or Ocasio-Cortez the wooden dummy as leadership material is wasting our time.

Everyone knows that Robert self identifies as ´Little Beto´, an unskilled lazy illegal transplant from Venezuela that came here for the free stuff, but that is just fantasy.
Robert is just a vanilla communist grifter that will never be anywhere near as great as his fantasy hero Beto.

Concerted opposition to the independent judiciary has begun to percolate on the left with little scrutiny. Last week, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, Hillary Clinton’s former spokesman Brian Fallon, and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna rallied activists seeking to enervate judicial independence through proposals like court-packing and term limits for justices. Left-wing influencers like Democratic Rep.-Elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attorney Michael Avenatti have endorsed the former proposition already. Progressive websites like Vox.com have repeatedly challenged the notion of judicial review. And dozens of leading lawyers on the left are organizing support for such ideas. The list goes on.

Of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s many targets, the most tragic may be former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The former three-star general pleaded guilty last year to a single count of lying to the FBI about conversations he had with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. Now we learn from Mr. Flynn’s court filing to the sentencing judge that senior bureau officials acted in a way to set him up for the fall. Not a rich man after decades in uniform, Mr. Flynn pleaded guilty to avoid bankruptcy and spare his son from becoming a legal target. Mr. Flynn’s filing

Palestinian Media Watch reports: Following a recent terror attack in which the terrorist stabbed and wounded 4 Israeli policemen, a host on official PA TV read a poem in the terrorist´s honor. The poem glorifies Martyrdom-death in battle and states that the 72 ‘Dark-Eyed’ Virgins in Paradise who the Martyr marries according to Islamic tradition, are ‘yearning’ for the Palestinian Martyr. Who are these “dark-eyed virgins in paradise” who are “yearning” for martyrs? The proper Arabic term for these entities is al-hour al-‘ayn, commonly known by the English transliteration as houris. There is so much wrong with Sports Illustrated’s decision to have Christine Blasey Ford present its 2018 Inspiration of the Year award, it is hard to know where to begin. For starters, there’s the issue that the magazine’s treatment of Ford is more befitting a celebrity athlete than a 52-year-old woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted nearly 40 years ago in high school. (tweet) Ford was not chosen for having any sort of meaningful affiliation with the award recipient, former gymnast Rachael Denhollander, whose testimony eventually led to the downfall of convicted sexual predator Larry Nassar.

House and Senate negotiators reached an agreement Wednesday to overhaul congressional regulations governing sexual harassment, clearing the way for a vote on the measure in both chambers over the next two weeks, before Congress adjourns for the year. Under the terms of the compromise announced Wednesday, members of Congress would be held personally liable for sexual harassment and retaliation settlements, requiring them to reimburse the Treasury. In his federal court sentencing hearing Wednesday, President Trump’s former personal attorney Michael Cohen cut a tragic figure of his own making as he tried to convince a judge to spare him from prison for a host of crimes ranging from tax fraud to bank fraud to lying to Congress. He claimed he was a trusting soul undone by the ambition and the machinations of an evil man – Donald Trump. It played out like a modern take on the Tennessee Williams play “A Streetcar Named Desire.” All that was missing

Congressional Dems are butting heads with President Trump over his demand for $5 billion to continue building a wall along the southern border. Likely incoming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi vows she won’t spend one dollar for a wall and calls the idea “immoral.” Not building the wall is what’s truly immoral. Allowing poor migrants to flood across the southern border forces taxpayers to toil longer and pay more taxes to feed and house them, accommodate their children in public schools and pay for their medical care. Americans are already maxed out caring for our own needy, including the homeless

House Democrats are eagerly eyeing the chance to revive earmarks when they take the majority next year, saying it is Congress’s duty to siphon the money to pet projects — and hoping a return to pork-barrel spending will help keep back-benchers in line. But they’re wary of taking the leap alone and say they’re hoping Senate Republicans will join them in reversing an eight-year ban. Rep. Steny H. Hoyer, poised to become House majority leader when the new Congress convenes in January, told reporters he expects bipartisan support for a return to earmarks.

Beto O´Rourke is a loser. I don´t mean that in some broad sense that impugns his personal integrity or abilities. He´s clearly a very handsome, charming man with a talent for promoting himself on social media and an abundance of that most mysterious and amorphous political quality: charisma. I mean he´s a loser in the precise sense that his singular accomplishment in American public life (besides getting himself elected to a House seat in far-west Texas four years ago) has been to lose a Senate race to the stupendously unpopular Republican Ted Cruz.

The annual Christmas-season gathering was a significant perk for those covering the White House, as well as other Washington reporters, anchors and commentators, and New York media executives would regularly fly in for the occasion. At its peak, the invitation-only soirees grew so large that there were two back-to-back events, one for broadcast outlets and one for print organizations.
