East Coast cities won first and second place rankings as the safest cities in America, according to a Monday WalletHub study. Columbia, Maryland, and South Burlington, Vermont, rank as America’s two safest cities, respectively, according to the study. Plano, Texas, and Virginia Beach, Virginia, followed as the third and fourth safest cities in the U.S., respectively, according to the study. Columbia isn´t a city. It´s a suburban collection of developments sandwiched between Baltimore and D.C. It is a planned community.

"Almost 60 percent of violent crimes and 80 percent of rapes and sexual assaults were not reported to the police..."

I´m guess that´s a guess, how could it be otherwise? Even so, like the actual number of "undocumented immigrants" vs. what we´re told, it´s worse than you think.

Whoever did that map should be fired for incompetence. Safe to unsafe went from purple to teal.

A map comparing the crime statistics and majority political party of the politicians in charge of those cities would an eye opener. Just don´t use purple and teal.

Anyone who travels a lot and goes off the beaten path knows the underlying methodology is a bit out of whack. The top is plausible though. My sibling lives in Plano and like many people there he has more guns than family members and I often point out that Plano has pretty much no crime - the uncomfortable factor that liberals won´t discuss is the demographics, as is the way with many of these cities. Is it really safer though in Boise than in Raleigh? I doubt it. And terrorist incidents get multiple weighting? Why? Aggravated assault is far more likely for most of us.

Twice in 30 years I was trying to drive through St Louis and got forced into an exit only lane. Ended up in falling down, crime infested ghettos each time and felt lucky to get out alive. I suspect that´s all there is in St. Louis.

I used to live in South Burlington. You can open carry or conceal carry a gun and you dont need a permit to do it. Funny how a city (and state) with the most lax gun laws is the safest while cities with the strictest gun laws are the most dangerous.

Definitely a case where you´ll want to read the methodology. I seriously doubt many would agree with their definition of what makes a safe or unsafe city.

RE #7:

I also lived in South Burlington up until early last year. South Burlington cops have a reputation as being "no-nonsense types," to put it kindly. I had no problem with this, though, since it meant that my home was safe and I could shop in U-Mall without some thug busting a window and stealing my car.

One other thing about South Burlington, though, is its demographics. It is a relatively wealthy city in a 94% white state. 8f there is crime, it tends to stay in the seedier parts of Burlington proper, probably for the reasons you mentioned.

You can narrow down the list of places not to visit or reside by checking to see if it has a "Martin Luther King Boulevard". Not because of any particular race but the people who ´run´ the government.

Not a place to be head-down, unaware and unarmed.

#6, I´m in that metro area and it´s the messiest road system I´ve encountered. Endless construction areas (unions need work), horrible markings, unfathomable designs, constant unpleasant surprises. Even locals are regularly caught out by one thing or another.

Among many, two examples: Exit lanes that cross entrance lanes at oblique angles, like figure 8 racing. Miraculous engineering that has rain pooling on TOP of overpasses.

It’s the headline that is making all of us who live with or love someone with multiple sclerosis (MS) pay attention. There are many more of us out there than has ever been reported. Four years ago, the National Multiple Sclerosis Society decided to do a study of MS prevalence in the U.S. The number of people with the disease that the society had been citing – 400,000 – seemed way too low to people in the MS community. So the society got together some very smart folks – neurologists, epidemiologists, statisticians – and they came up with an algorithm

The Washington Post reported that “Trump had been leaning against supporting the congressional spending bill but relented after several conversations with [Majority Leader Sen.
