BEAUFORT, S.C. - For the first time in forty years, a Democrat will hold South Carolina´s first congressional seat. Congressman Mark Sanford held the position for three terms and Republican Candidate Katie Arrington is blaming him for her loss. "The goods news... we are neck and neck in this race and we´re still gonna win this thing," Joe Cunningham told the crowd at his watch party Tuesday night. And he was right. The Democratic candidate beat out Arrington by 1.4 percent. Even though she won four of the five counties, Cunningham took the biggest -- Charleston. "We are really, really, really, happy with this victory,"

KA ran a really poor campaign and had no particularly distinguishing messages. She was very pro-Trump in the primary and that got her the win over Sanford, but then she had nothing in the campaign against Cunningham. Sanford would have cleaned up against Cunningham.

KA was sidelined by that horrible auto accident she sustained, which must have disrupted her campaigning plans and ability. That much I know.

Defeated Republican Martha McSally could make it to the Senate after all with an appointment to the seat that John McCain held prior to his passing. It´s currently occupied by Jon Kyl, who had served in the Senate before and retired. He has only committed to doing the job until the end of the year, which would provide Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey with a new opportunity to appoint someone, possibly McSally. ´Martha McSally would be a very good member of the United States Senate, however she got there,´ Kyl told CNN on Tuesday. ´And I regret that she didn´t make it in

What happens if Florida elections offices fail to meet Thursday’s looming deadline for a machine recount of ballots in the state’s tightly contested races? Keep counting, says Florida’s secretary of state. A spokeswoman for Secretary of State Ken Detzner said Tuesday that counties should continue counting past the deadline so that final tallies can be included in official results. At least one elections supervisor, Palm Beach County’s Susan Bucher, has said she does not believe her office will make the deadline in at least three races and will complete a tally only for the bitter fight between Gov. Rick Scott and U.S.

A majority of Democrats think Republicans are racist bigots, and most in the GOP see Democratic Party members as spiteful in the age of Trump. The president said a week ago during one of his final pre-midterm rallies that he hoped to ´eventually unite´ the country, but said it was politically helpful for Republicans to keep lobbing rhetorical bombs to their left. ´The fact is we are driving them crazy. They don´t know what to do. We are driving them loco,´ he boasted then. A SurveyMonkey online poll commissioned by Axios found that deep, partisan suspicions run both ways across America´s political divide.

Get ready for Hillary Clinton 4.0. More than 30 years in the making, this new version of Mrs. Clinton, when she runs for president in 2020, will come full circle—back to the universal-health-care-promoting progressive firebrand of 1994. True to her name, Mrs. Clinton will fight this out until the last dog dies. She won’t let a little thing like two stunning defeats stand in the way of her claim to the White House. It’s been quite a journey. In July 1999, Mrs. Clinton began her independent political career on retiring Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s farm in upstate New York. Her Senate

They’re saying that revoking Jim Acosta’s press pass was a mistake, so that Acosta ought to be reinstated. He was only doing his job covering the White House, perhaps a touch overly-aggressive even for CNN, but that is the nature of journalism. So they say. The nature of CNN has always been to go ugly on the United States and Israel; formerly through Hanan Ashrawi

President Donald Trump’s party had a net gain of three seats in the Senate, but lost the control of the House of Representatives, with a net loss of 26 seats. The most House seats ever lost by a president for his party in a midterm election was by Barack Obama in 2010. He lost 63. Next was Bill Clinton in 1994 who lost 52. Followed by Dwight Eisenhower who lost 48 seats in 1958, as did Gerald Ford and Richard Nixon in 1974 who lost 48 seats each as well. What Trump achieved with

Sen. Mr. Flake made the announcement on the Senate floor minutes after his bid to pass the bill failed. His threat could block the committee from approving any more judges this year, since the GOP only holds a one-seat majority on the panel. The election results for Arizona are in, and Democratic Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema has won, winning the seat held by outgoing Republican Sen. Jeff Flake. It´s a puzzling result, not the least because the vote count took a week. In mitigation, there were far fewer warnings of fraud than we are currently seeing in Florida, and the delay was solely the result of 640,000 mail-in ballots that had yet to be counted. (snip) McSally may have lowered her own voters´ enthusiasm factor by acting standoffish from Donald Trump at first
