A gunman who killed 12 people at a Thousand Oaks bar was a former U.S. Marine who might have been suffering from PTSD, the Ventura County Sheriff said. Ian David Long, 28, lived in Newbury Park, not far from the club where he threw smoke bombs and rained bullets on a crowd of more than a hundred people. Sheriff Geoff Dean said his department had several interactions with Long, including a call to his home in April for a complaint of disturbing the peace. Deputies at the time said was irate and acting irrationally,

The suspect was armed with a Glock 21 .45-caliber handgun, with an extended magazine, that he had purchased legally,Dean said. The weapon, which normally holds 10 bullets, had an extended magazine.

After spraying bullets for almost three minutes, the gunman then went into an office near the front of the bar where he was found dead of an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

It seems that we are more concerned about taking care people who want to enter our country illegally then those men and women who put their life on the line to protect our country. It´s just wrong.

An immediate response no link to terrorism. Why is this up front and foremost upon an incident of this type?

Just remember we are being conditioned to think of veterans as potential terrorists.

It will be interesting to see the difference between the lasting first profile we are offered and the final version. We all know that the first impression will live on.

Liberals lead the movement to remove the mentally ill from hospitals. The result has been disasterous.

“…during the 1960s, effective medications for treating mental illness became available, and the deinstitutionalization of state mental patients got under way. Deinstitutionalization’s fundamental flaw was not its shifting of patients from hospitals to living in the community but its failure to ensure that those patients would keep taking the medication they needed to remain well once they left the hospital.”

Enough is enough.
Dems, Leftists, and the mentally deranged, (but I repeat myself), should have to face sensible gun-control laws.
They have clearly proven through words and deeds, they are not stable enough to handle this adult responsibility.
How many more needless tragedies must we endure at the hands of Dems and their misguided policies.
The Leftist Dems are the problem, not the solution.

Maybe he was suffering from the effect of teh drugs used to treat PTSD? The VA gives out drugs like candy and spends very little time in actual counseling with their PTSD patients.

Re #8, no fan of the LAT, but this is a local story and their reporters do a good job with those. Always have. No one in the UK or even the eastern US will have access to witnesses and details in a timely fashion.

Fine to warn people off the LAT re politics. They have done excellent work - investigative work - on crime for decades.

Notice they are not flashing that this ex-Marine suffered from PTSD as some headlines have done. It is something suspected, because of a prior incident at his home, but not diagnosed so not stated as fact. The LAT simply quoted the sheriff who said he “might have” suffered from it.

He´s a Veteran with a Combat Action Ribbon. According to reports, went to college for 3 years, dropped out, then never worked.

Prediction: we will find out he was the recipient of a 100% VA Rating, entitling him to full vocational and education benefits, and the right to sit at home and do NOTHING to get treatment. There are thousands and thousands of these guys out there. A large share are pure frauds, who will spend 50 years living on the dole, because they got one favorable phsych eval based on pure heresay. The other share are desperately in need of mental health service. Instead, we just keep funding their usually associated alcohol and drug abuse, waiting for the shoe to drop.

Way too many want to jump to conclusions about anything in the news. News accounts aren’t alway accurate #1. For instance, a sheriff on TV later said there was no evidence the shooter had smoke bombs. #2, if he had PTSD, or had trouble and the police and mental health people were called out, it’s absurd to say he should have been locked up. The responders can’t just lock someone up, so don’t blame. I’ll wait for more information before blaming anyone except the person who actually did the shooting.

You can bet that the shooter was either actively taking psychotropic SSRI drugs or had been at some point in the immediate past.

That is the single largest common factor in all of these mass shooting incidents.

Conservatives are rightly shocked and dismayed by two recent decisions by Fox News, an allegedly Republican-friendly organization. First, Fox decided to ban President Trump’s anti-illegal immigration campaign ad after CNN decided it was “racist.” Note that Fox, NBC, and other media outlets didn’t discover this racism on their own. No, they needed that paragon of journalistic integrity, CNN, abetted by a Twitter mob, to find it for them.
