Skateboarding socialist Beto O´Rourke wipes out
Washington Times, by Charles Hurt

Blue wave? These damned meteorologists keep getting it wrong. Well, at least it is safe to come back out on the beach again. Skateboarding socialist Robert Francis O’Rourke did not make history in Texas Tuesday night. Neither did Andrew Gillum in Florida. They were supposed to be the Second Coming of Barack Obama. Despite the massive media hype, each will have to be content as asterisks sloshing around in a rolling blue puddle for now. Taylor Swift, meanwhile, is packing up her country boots and band equipment and headed back to Hollywood. Her man in Tennessee lost by more than ten points. If anything, these people

Comments:
However, Robert Francis came too close. In my own Tarrant County, often characterized as the dependably reddest county in Texas, Beto won.

The sad part of this Betomania is that people did a straight party vote and elected a 27 year old who does not live in the county as the next Harris county judge. We will see her mettle when the next hurricane hits

I agree with #2 and foresee an O´Rourke/Gillum ticket in 2020. The fact that these guys almost won is frightening to conservatives, but liberals were impressed. They are both perfect. Charismatic, hip, loved by Hollywood and the media, and so like Obama meaning (1) socialists (2) no accomplishments (3) full of empty rhetoric, and therefore perfect puppets for the globalist manipulators.

Democrats in the House, only two, may no get to keep those after the investigation is done. Corruption IS politics. Lately it is so crooked one feels soiled. I don´t know how all these stay out of jail. Were it me, they would have put me under the jail.

There is no justice on earth. Only revenge.
Glad we Texans outnumbered the shystie vote.

What Bruce Ohr Told the FBI

Everybody knew. Everybody of consequence at the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Justice Department understood fully in the middle of 2016—as the FBI embarked on its counterintelligence probe of Donald Trump—that it was doing so based on disinformation provided by Hillary Clinton’s campaign. That’s the big revelation from the transcript of the testimony Justice Department official Bruce Ohr gave Congress in August. The transcripts haven’t been released, but parts were confirmed for me by congressional sources. Mr. Ohr testified that he sat down with dossier author Christopher Steele on July 30, 2016, and received salacious information

The red wolf was declared extinct in the wild in 1980, and while forty or so red wolves were captured, bred in captivity, and reintroduced into the wild in North Carolina in 1990, there have been mysterious unconfirmed reports of red wolf sightings scattered along the Texas Gulf Coast for decades. Those sightings were typically dismissed—scientists were certain coyotes were being mistaken for the elusive wolf. But now there’s some evidence indicating that red wolves may actually have a genetic presence along the coast in Texas. It all began with some roadkill.

Former CBS Corp. chairman-CEO Leslie Moonves will pursue an arbitration claim to fight CBS for the $120 million severance that he was denied last month when the company’s board of directors determined he was fired for cause. Moonves was ousted in September after multiple women came forward with allegations of sexual misconduct against the longtime industry leader. In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing on Thursday, CBS disclosed that Moonves has informed the company of his plan to take the board’s decision to arbitration. A spokesman for Moonves declined to comment. “On January 16, 2019, Mr. Moonves notified the Company of his election

A nine-foot sculpture depicting the Saudi Arabian flag in the shape of a piece of candy is reportedly being removed from its grounds near the 9/11 memorial in New York City after facing backlash. The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey said they’d relocate the installation, which features the words “There is no god but Allah, and Mohammed is the prophet” in Arabic, after many felt its proximity to Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial was insulting and insensitive. Fifteen of the 19 hijackers in the Sept. 11 attack on the United States were Saudi nationalists,

Mitch McConnell Rules
Wall Street Journal, by William McGurn    Original Article

In the daily headlines, the government shutdown—now the longest in American history—is reported as a clash between two uncompromising forces: President Trump and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. In this battle, however, the most important general may be the one who’s escaped almost all notice. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has put on full display his penchant for knowing when the best course is to do nothing. In the received wisdom, because Mr. Trump infamously welcomed a shutdown in December’s televised and contentious Oval Office meeting with Mrs. Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, he gets all the blame for it.

Watch Willie Nelson and George

Willie Nelson’s list of musical collaborators is essentially a timeline of popular music. Frank Sinatra? Wynton Marsalis? Ray Charles? Julio Iglesias? Check, check, check, check. Norah Jones, Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, even Snoop Dogg? Yep. Basically every country star who ever passed through Nashville and stopped off in Texas? Of course. Yet somehow, during the course of his illustrious and highly collaborative career, there’s one epic name that Willie hadn’t added to his list: King George Strait, his fellow Texan great, whose stature rivals Willie’s when it comes to the names that have defined country music.

Women Don’t Belong in Combat Units
Wall Street Journal, by Heather MacDonald    Original Article

The Obama-era policy of integrating women into ground combat units is a misguided social experiment that threatens military readiness and wastes resources in the service of a political agenda. The next defense secretary should end it. In September 2015 the Marine Corps released a study comparing the performance of gender-integrated and male-only infantry units in simulated combat. The all-male teams greatly outperformed the integrated teams, whether on shooting, surmounting obstacles or evacuating casualties. Female Marines were injured at more than six times the rate of men during preliminary training—unsurprising, since men’s higher testosterone levels produce stronger bones and muscles.

Like Representative Rashida Tlaib, Bella Abzug was not one to mince words in the course of political combat. In 1973, as the murk of Watergate engulfed Richard Nixon, the feisty Democratic congresswoman from New York punched Speaker Carl Albert in the chest, in his account, and told him: “Get off your goddamned ass, and we can take this presidency!” As today, the Watergate era was a time of generational and stylistic change in the House of Representatives. Younger red-hot liberals saw impeachment as a necessary and urgent course of action, while wary elders viewed it

We have a couple of updates today. One about a movie. One about a museum. I told you recently that, based on his perusal of the script and glimpse at the trailer, local lawyer Harry Whittington had some concerns about “Vice,” the current unflattering movie about ex-Veep Dick Cheney. Whittington has some personal stake in the movie because he’s in the movie. He’s the local man who was shot by Cheney in a 2006 South Texas quail hunting accident. It’s a scene in the movie, and now that Whittington has seen the scene, he’s even more convinced it’s inaccurate.

Earl Scruggs revolutionized the way we play and appreciate the banjo today. Scruggs, who was born 95 years ago this month, developed his own three-finger method of picking the five-string banjo – an approach so radical it´s now widely referred to as "Scruggs style." That style, which features picks attached to the thumb, index finger and middle finger, has become a defining characteristic of bluegrass music and the most popular style of playing banjo in the genre. Google dedicated an animated Doodle to Scruggs on Friday, highlighting his finger-picking method, which helped elevate the status of the banjo

It’s tough to tell. Does this make the shutdown a bug … or a feature? Nancy Pelosi has asked Donald Trump to put off his State of the Union speech to the joint session of Congress until after the funding issues have been resolved: (Copy of Letter/Tweet) And with that, the new Speaker of the House just made the best case possible for a perpetual shutdown. Kidding! What I meant to say was that Nancy Pelosi has finally sounded a note of wisdom, at least in her reminder that presidents used to just deliver a report in writing to Congress.
