Is There a Crisis at the Border?
Wall Street Journal, by Jillian Kay Melchior

Original Article

San Diego- The “crisis at the southern border” suggests families crammed in the backs of semi trucks or huddled on inflatable river rafts, cartel smugglers trafficking migrants into America along with drugs and weapons. Yet at the border with Tijuana, U.S. Customs and Border Protection is now overwhelmed by a surge of migrants seeking asylum lawfully—by requesting it at a port of entry. The strain will only intensify with the arrival of the caravans now making their way from Central America. It’s not yet clear where or how the caravans will attempt to cross. If they opt to do so legally,

So how many of these people will stay in Mexico city? Many speak Spanish but I´m sure a good portion do not - as the coyotes take advantage of those who speak only the languages of their little Indian villages.

Amid the violations of law by Broward and Palm Beach County elections officials, the data provides apparent good news for Republicans. First, despite the national media´s typical laziness and derelictions, the local press has largely been assiduous and conscientious -- certain framing aside. Second, core concerns raised by leading Republicans (some of which were rhetorically overblown) have been validated by multiple judges. The ineptitude and misconduct has not gone unnoticed. Third, in spite of Democratic lawyers´ best efforts, Republican leads in key races are likely insurmountable. National Review´s Charles C.W. Cooke

Who Lost The House? John McCain

The Republican Party lost its House majority on July 28, 2017, when Sen. John McCain ended the party’s seven-year quest to repeal ObamaCare. House leadership had done an admirable job herding cats. On the second try, we passed the American Health Care Act in May. Then McCain’s inscrutable vote against the Senate’s “skinny repeal” killed the reform effort. McCain’s last-minute decision prompted a “green wave” of liberal special-interest money, which was used to propagate false claims that the House plan “gutted coverage for people with pre-existing conditions.” That line was the Democrats’ most potent attack

The World Chess Championship arrived in London on Friday with a blitzkrieg of breathless hype that hasn’t been seen in chess for nearly three decades. The matchup between reigning champion Magnus Carlsen and challenger Fabiano Caruana is the first title series since Garry Kasparov’s reign to pit the world’s two top players against each other. Carlsen may already be the greatest player ever but has lacked a worthy rival. Caruana is an aggressive player who could become the first American champion since Bobby Fischer. The players’ combined ratings are the highest for a World Chess Championship ever. The chess cognoscenti sense

Hours after the Trump administration invoked national security powers to change existing rules to deny asylum to anyone entering this country illegally, U.S. immigrant rights advocates in El Paso learned that immigration officials were going to start evicting migrants encamped on international bridges awaiting to legally apply for asylum. U.S. and Mexican authorities have reached an agreement to remove hundreds of asylum seekers, including children, from international bridges linking El Paso and Ciudad Juarez, representatives from the American Civil Liberties Union told Texas Monthly Thursday night. Biggest Loser: Elizabeth Warren

Tuesday’s midterms served up mixed results, handing both parties big wins and big losses. It will take some time to sort out what it means. Yet the evening did nonetheless provide one total, complete, unalloyed loser: Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren. For a decade Ms. Warren, 69, has been busy trying to remake Washington in her progressive image. Her role in creating a new financial regulatory apparatus gave her outsize influence over the bureaucracy. Her successful 2012 Senate bid gave her a megaphone to rail against “billionaires, bigots and Wall Street bankers”—and Donald Trump.

Amid the inevitable outrage fest touched off by the election results, hardcore partisans on the left solidified around one particular angry narrative: If and when Democrats lose, it is because white women remain insufficiently woke. The Usual Suspects crafted this argument around exit polls of the Senate race in Texas, which revealed that white women broke for Republican incumbent Ted Cruz by a significant margin — 60 percent cast ballots for him rather than for Robert Francis O’Rourke (“Beto” to you), who received just 39 percent of their support. This 20-point margin in the Lone Star State was enough evidence for

While Tuesday night was not a complete win for Republicans, there was no blue wave, either. By most measures, Republicans beat the odds of history and nearly everyone’s expectations, while Democrats were left disappointed as the fantasy of Beto O’Rourke, Andrew Gillum, Stacey Abrams and others winning fizzled. (Snip)Let the message be clear: Voters had a chance to repudiate Trump and they did not. Much of the commentariat has said this year’s elections are about who we are as a country and what America is all about. Well, a lot of America seems to be about supporting Trump.

It took a while for President Trump to get used to working with the Republican-led Congress, but he developed a style of dealing with lawmakers that led to the passage of tax reform and a number of smaller measures. Now, though, with Democrats winning control of the House, Trump faces the challenge of working with an empowered opposition whose leaders are motivated by intense animus toward the president -- and who will have the ability to stop any Trump legislative initiatives cold. Sen. Mr. Flake made the announcement on the Senate floor minutes after his bid to pass the bill failed. The election results for Arizona are in, and Democratic Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema has won, winning the seat held by outgoing Republican Sen. Jeff Flake. It´s a puzzling result, not the least because the vote count took a week. Energy: Has any politician ever been more wrong than Barack Obama was about U.S. oil production and energy independence? Based on the latest report from the International Energy Agency, the answer is unequivocally no. On Tuesday, oil prices fell for the 12th consecutive decline. And amid that decline, the International Energy Agency forecasts that the U.S. will account for 75% of the growth in global oil production through 2025. That´s a stunning finding that shows how dynamic the domestic oil and gas industry has become.
