Identity Politics in Overdrive
City Journal, by Heather MacDonald

Original Article

The current lawsuit challenging Harvard University’s use of racial preferences in admissions is about “white supremacy,” according to the school’s supporters. So, too, was the defense of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh against the charge of sexual assault, according to Kavanaugh’s critics. Never mind that the plaintiffs in the Harvard lawsuit are Asian-American students who were denied admission to the school despite academic qualifications superior to those of whites, and that Kavanaugh’s accuser was white herself. The roiling mass of resentments and one-upmanship that is identity politics is becoming ever more irrational in the Trump era.

Identity politics is an evil brought to us by the devil, or Democrats. It has become a shield for bad behavior, poor performance, and justifying privileges for those that have not earned them.

This just underscores why you should never ever hire anyone who´s been to Harvard let alone having them get anywhere near the reins of government.

Asian American students are discriminated against in many places including the proposed re-vamping of NYC special schools.

It is insidious that their ability and hard work are actually held against them. We should be having them in the schools to give them an opportunity to model their study ethic for other students.

As I winced my way through an uncomfortable confrontation at a televised White House news conference between President Trump and Jim Acosta, which resulted in CNN’s chief White House correspondent having his press credentials yanked, all I could think about was a 3x5-inch slip of scratch paper. About 15 years ago, while I was an editorial writer and columnist for the Dallas Morning News, I was on the phone with the county district attorney when the conversation got heated. I’d been pounding on the D.A. for months over scandals involving his office.

High tide for base voters: Democrats´

Democrats went into last week’s election convinced that there were millions of untapped liberal voters who, with the right motivation, could be pushed to turn out and vote, creating the blue wave. They found them, in places such as Florida, where a charismatic black Democrat managed to send midterm turnout soaring. Gubernatorial nominee Andrew Gillum received 1.2 million more votes than his predecessor on the Democratic ticket, 2014 nominee Charlie Crist. The problem for Democrats was that Republicans kept pace, finding 1.2 million new voters in Florida as well. Nearly the same thing happened in Georgia, where another high-profile Democrat,

President Trump can claim, with some merit, that the 2018 midterm elections went well for his party. Especially if the results hold in Florida, Republicans did well, considering the hurricane-force winds blowing in their faces. But either way, Trump has still lost his House majority. That’s not a small thing. Trump will now be subjected to constant investigation unless and until he gets it back. His agenda, to the extent that it is a Republican agenda, will also be cut off in the House. So how should Trump react to this? We have a suggestion: Avoid taking the sharp, partisan tack

A top House Democrat wants to probe President Trump’s attempts to punish media companies who give him negative news coverage. Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), the incoming chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, told “Axios on HBO” that he wants to see if Trump abused his power when he tried to meddle in the affairs of companies associated with The Washington Post and CNN. In question, Schiff said, was whether the president used “the instrument of state power to punish the press.”

The supervisor of elections in Florida´s heavily Democratic Palm Beach County said Sunday that she did not believe her department would meet a Thursday deadline to complete recounts in the Sunshine State´s historically tight gubernatorial and Senate races, threatening to further confuse an increasingly chaotic and politically fraught process. The supervisor, Susan Bucher, told reporters that she did not expect to meet the deadline due to aging equipment. Florida Department of State spokeswoman Sarah Revell told Fox News that under state law, if a county does not submit their results by the deadline,

Six more people have died in connection to the wildfire tearing through Northern California, a sheriff said Sunday evening. The death toll in the northern blaze -- known as the Camp Fire -- rose to 29 as a result of the discoveries, which included five bodies located at homes and one that was found in a vehicle, Butte County Sheriff Cory Honea said. An additional 228 people were unaccounted for, he added. The wildfire now matches the deadliest blaze on record in California history. The Camp Fire, which tore through the town of Paradise, had burned

Arguably the most important power at stake in Tuesday’s election was Congressional oversight, and the most important change may be Adam Schiff at the House Intelligence Committee. The Democrat says his top priority is re-opening the Trump-Russia collusion probe, but more important may be his intention to stop investigating how the FBI and Justice Department abused their power in 2016. So let’s walk through what we’ve learned to date. Credit for knowing anything at all goes to Intel Chairman Devin Nunes and more recently a joint investigation by Reps. Bob Goodlatte (Judiciary) and Trey Gowdy (Oversight).

The League of Women Voters and Common Cause have warned Florida Governor and Senator-elect Rick Scott that if he keeps hovering over the recount of the state’s ballots for governor and senator—he has already called in the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to investigate possible fraud—they’ll sue him for politicizing the recount. He should see them and raise them by calling in the FBI to investigate the Broward County Board of Elections. In fact, we were told that was the only way civility would return to a world of angry liberal mobs assaulting and shouting down anyone who dare not agree with them. We were lied to. Being lied to by liberals is not a surprise. What is a little surprising is how quickly, boldly, and proudly they broke their word as if no one would remember the promise. The centenary of the armistice that ended World War I on Nov. 11 inevitably raises questions about the United States’ involvement in that conflict, which cost the lives of 50,585 Americans and wounded 205,690. Many Americans have believed, both at the time and since, that the United States ought not to have fought a faraway foreign war that looked like just the latest of the endemic dynastic quarrels of the European continent, from which the young American republic should have stood aloof. Are they right? On Jan. 16, 1917, the German foreign minister, Count Arthur Zimmermann, dispatched a telegram

Caravan leaders have gotten everyone together to decide their next move and, perhaps predictably, they’re heading north again. But rather than taking the shorter route toward Texas, they are opting for the longer and more dangerous route

Macron spoke in front of world leaders including President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. “If we think our interests may only come first and we don’t care for others, it is a treason of our values, a betrayal of all moral values,” he said. “We must remember this.” Macron said that the moral values of France helped them fight for the future of their country.

Democrats could make the biggest changes to gun legislation the United States has seen in 25 years when the new term begins January but Republicans are unlikely to make it easy for them. A fresh wave of politicians will enter the House next year, after the Democratic party took it back in Tuesday´s elections. But the GOP still control the Senate which passes federal laws. However with the Thousand Oaks, California mass shooting where 12 people died just the day after the midterms, politicians have suggested they´ll be aggressively pursuing action to enforce tougher gun control. Get ready for Hillary Clinton 4.0. More than 30 years in the making, this new version of Mrs. Clinton, when she runs for president in 2020, will come full circle—back to the universal-health-care-promoting progressive firebrand of 1994. True to her name, Mrs. Clinton will fight this out until the last dog dies. She won’t let a little thing like two stunning defeats stand in the way of her claim to the White House. It’s been quite a journey. In July 1999, Mrs. Clinton began her independent political career on retiring Sen. Daniel Patrick Moynihan’s farm in upstate New York. Her Senate
