Democrats slide in battle for Senate
The Hill [Washington, DC], by Alexander Bolton

Original Article

The battle for control of the Senate is looking worse and worse for Democrats, who just a month ago saw a path to the majority but now increasingly look like they could lose more seats and have a smaller minority next year. (Snip) Two states where Democrats had hopes of pulling major upsets — Texas and Tennessee — have moved in favor of Republicans. Races in Nevada and Arizona, two other states where Democrats had hoped to make gains, remain tight, but Republicans feel more confident about their candidates. Meanwhile, the tide has moved against Democratic candidates in a couple

Comments:
More evidence that voters are moving toward Republicans in Senate races. Montana is now in play and NJ (of all places) is within reach.

It´s always encouraging to see more voters embracing reason than embracing the Left. Still, we´ve got a long way to go both in terms of undoing the damage they´ve done to the US and preventing them from doing any more. There is no rest from this task.

I just checked the real clear average of the races. I noticed that they do not have rasmussen listed in any of their polls but have CNN, NYT, and WaPO listed a lot. Now what does that tell you folks? It tells me that Hillary is going to be President in 2016, oh wait.....If we are seeing a slide to the republicans at all I think we are probably going to see a red tsunami considering who they are using for the pollsters.

FTA: Sen. Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.), long seen as vulnerable, is hanging onto an average poll lead of 3 points, despite voting against Kavanaugh.

Mike Braun running against Donnelly is an awful candidate. As far as I´m concerned he´s the Hillary of the senate races this go round. Totally uninspiring.

I would really like to have enough Senate Republicans such that the RINOs no longer can hold us hostage. It would be nice to tell Susan Collins, you´re welcome to your opinion but we don´t care how you vote. I give her credit for FINALLY standing up for Kavanaugh and doing a great job of it but RINOs have had FAR too much influence.

Whatever the polls say, just think how much easier it would have been for Republicans if the House and the Senate had made good on their promises of several election cycles to fix immigration, repeal Obamacare, etc. Keep your conservative promises and you will win elections, Pubbies. Ditch McConnell as Majority Leader in favor of a true conservative and elect a true conservative--Jim Jordan, maybe--as Speaker and you can rack up electoral wins for decades if you´ll change the culture and actions of Congress to ones that are Constitutionally originalist.

Democrats may have truly seen a path to the majority. The clinical name for that is "delusion." For six months before every election they wrestle with a strategy, publish polls to show them losing to fire up their complacent base or publish polls to show them winning bigly to discourage the republicans. Spoiler alert, neither strategy works. Their candidates and base are unlikable as well as batcrap crazy and their message is undefinable.

Stacey Abrams is not conceding. That’s what she said at a press conference in Atlanta on Friday. “This is not a speech of concession,” she told supporters and reporters, “because concession means an action is right, true, or proper. As a woman of conscience and faith, I cannot concede that.” But the former Georgia state representative and Democratic nominee for governor did essentially end her campaign and recognize that her opponent, Brian Kemp, the GOP nominee and former state secretary of state, will officially win the election. “I acknowledge that Brian Kemp will be certified as the victor in

Many have lost their homes completely. California government officials have estimated that more than 1 million homes throughout the state are located in "high-risk" fire areas. That´s a lot of property to protect when a fast-moving wildfire is approaching, and county fire departments and volunteers often can´t manage the job alone. It has been speculated that Mitt Romney’s Utah Senate seat could serve as a prelude to another Presidential run. In the most ambitious version of events, he could even challenge Donald Trump in the 2020 primaries, newly legitimized and augmented by his actions in the Capitol Building. This would allow moderate Republicans to reclaim their party’s mantle and unroot alt-right influences. But would Romney do it? His willingness to unequivocally challenge Trump could be seen either as a pro or con by Republicans, depending on their opinions of the sitting president.

To look back at the moment John Kerry entered US public life, addressing the Senate foreign relations committee on 22 April 1971, is to be struck by many things. There are the famous words, of course: “How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?” There is the shock of dark, Beatles-inspired hair, the distinctly British-tinged accent. Above all, there is the self-possession.
