Spike in premature births among
Latinas linked to Trump´s win

Guardian [UK], by Erin Durkin

Original Article

Posted By:Ribicon, 10/18/2018 7:49:27 AM

Latina immigrants in New York City have seen a spike in premature births – an increase that researchers with the city’s health department say may be tied to the shock win by Donald Trump in the 2016 presidential election. The study released Wednesday by the health department and Harvard’s TH Chan School of Public Health compared births in the city in the months before Trump won the Republican presidential nomination, from September 2015 through July 2016, with births in the months after he was inaugurated, from January to August 2017. There was no change in babies born prematurely – or before 37

Comments:
Says the overall rate of premature births increased by 0.3 percentage points overall, probably a statistical anomaly, but to Fake Research, a larger increase in the "Latinx" population is proof positive of hostile times in the Era of The Donald.

That is so funny! Made my day-top of the Fake News for Thursday-can´t believe anyone who can actually read would believe this. I notice that half my Liberal friends no longer pay much attention to the news. May it continue.

They are the advance line of the migrant caravan that Donald Trump has said is attempting an “invasion” of the US. But, as a 400-strong group of asylum-seeking Central Americans arrived in the Mexican border town of Tijuana on Saturday, they appeared more concerned with love than war. The splinter caravan – which is made up of dozens of LGBTQ+ people – was in celebratory mood as two of its members, 23-year-old Erick Dubon and Pedro Nehemias, 22, got married. The couple – originally from Honduras where same-sex unions are banned – tied the knot ahead of applying for asylum

Investigators are examining a work of art to establish whether it is a Picasso snatched from a Dutch museum in 2012. The painting, Picasso’s Tete d’Arlequin (Harlequin’s Head) was stolen six years ago in a haul of seven valuable artworks from the Kunsthal gallery in Rotterdam. The Romanian prosecutor in Bucharest said on Sunday that officials were examining a painting that a novelist said she found under a tree after receiving an anonymous tip. The work, purported to be the stolen Picasso, was given to the Dutch embassy in Romania on Saturday. Four Romanians were convicted of stealing Tete d’Arlequin

It was the great microchip heist — a stunning Chinese-backed effort that pilfered as much as $8.75 billion in patented American technology. U.S. officials say the theft took a year to pull off and involved commercial spies, a Chinese-backed company, a Taiwanese chipmaker and employees affiliated with Micron Technology, a U.S.-based microchip behemoth. Yet what Micron called “one of the boldest schemes of commercial espionage in recent times” is most notable because it’s not unusual. Beijing over the last two years has significantly ramped up its swiping of commercial technology and intellectual property, from jet engines to genetically modified rice

Championing the cause of the poor, Pope Francis on Sunday lamented that "the wealthy few" enjoy what, "in justice, belongs to all" and said Christians cannot remain indifferent to the growing cries of the exploited and the indigent, including migrants. Francis invited about 6,000 poor people as well as some of the volunteers who help them to the splendor of St. Peter´s Basilica where he celebrated Mass on a day the Catholic Church dedicates to the needy. Later, he sat down with 1,500 of the indigent for a lunch of lasagna, chicken, mashed potatoes and tiramisu in a Vatican auditorium.

Patrons at a small bar in Pocatello, Idaho, were a bit confused as to why a stranger showed up intent on watching the Harvard-Yale football game one day in 1982. He tried to explain, but no one really paid much attention until he offered to buy all the beer. Had they been listening, they might not have believed him. He was only there because he received a cryptic phone call that consisted of just three words: "Watch the game." Still, the message was received. There was only one reason he could have received such a strange call: After four years,

Mirebalais, Haiti — Cervical cancer is a disease that Haiti cannot afford. And in most cases, it’s a disease the country’s broken healthcare system cannot treat. There is just one MRI scanner in the entire country of 11 million people. Radiation treatment does not exist — for any kind of cancer — because there are no machines. Cancer screenings and early detection programs are limited, and so is access to lifesaving care. In a country already struggling to manage maternal deaths and childhood diseases that have been largely controlled in other parts of the world, cervical cancer is nearly always a death

It has been speculated that Mitt Romney’s Utah Senate seat could serve as a prelude to another Presidential run. In the most ambitious version of events, he could even challenge Donald Trump in the 2020 primaries, newly legitimized and augmented by his actions in the Capitol Building. This would allow moderate Republicans to reclaim their party’s mantle and unroot alt-right influences. But would Romney do it? His willingness to unequivocally challenge Trump could be seen either as a pro or con by Republicans, depending on their opinions of the sitting president.

To look back at the moment John Kerry entered US public life, addressing the Senate foreign relations committee on 22 April 1971, is to be struck by many things. There are the famous words, of course: “How do you ask a man to be the last man to die in Vietnam? How do you ask a man to be the last man to die for a mistake?” There is the shock of dark, Beatles-inspired hair, the distinctly British-tinged accent. Above all, there is the self-possession. He presented as an out-of-touch elitist the day he jerked away from the arm of the reaching White House intern — the day he refused to cede the microphone and cede the floor and cede his time to the many other journalists who were patiently waiting to pose questions to the president. But post-ruling, caught on camera walking from the courthouse,
