6 Political Scandals The Press
Doesn´t Want You To Know About

Media Bias: When the mainstream press isn´t busy putting out negative — and often false or misleading — stories about President Donald Trump, they´re equally busy burying scandals that involve Democrats. The Media Research Center recently documented this flagrant bias by omission. David Burge, who runs the popular Iowahawk blog, once observed that "Journalism is about covering important stories. With a pillow, until they stop moving." That is certainly true when it comes to scandals involving prominent Democrats.

Conservatives: Don´t Fall Prey To

Yeah, OK, conservatives. Guffaw all you want at 29-year-old political rock star Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. The young lady is a gaffe machine. "Three chambers of government." "Unemployment is low because everyone has two jobs." Getting tangled up in the facts in asserting that Pentagon savings could finance "Medicare for All." And yes — she did use the word "tippy-top" to describe upper-income taxpayers on "60 Minutes" in defending her recent proposal to skyrocket top rates to 70%. Meanwhile, how about Sen. Elizabeth Warren´s laughably transparent appeal to millennials with an Instagram beer slurp?

Voter Fraud: Democrats say they oppose President Trump´s demand for money to start building a border wall on moral grounds. More likely it´s because they know that unchecked immigration — legal or illegal — helps them win elections. If you don´t think so, look at what happened in California in the midterms. A recent Los Angeles Times article — titled "How young immigrant ´Dreamers´ made flipping control of the House a personal quest" — talked about how those who came to the country illegally as children had been running around California helping otherwise nonvoters fill out ballots.

Socialism: Newly minted Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says she isn´t modeling her brand of socialism on socialist basket cases like Venezuela, but on successes like Sweden, Norway and Finland. Apparently, she hasn´t bothered to look at just what sorts of economic policies those "socialist" countries have been pursuing lately. During an interview on "60 Minutes," Anderson Cooper put this question to Ocasio-Cortez: when people hear the word socialism, they think Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela. Is that what you have in mind?" Her response: "Of course not. What we have in mind —

Deregulation: A year ago, "net neutrality" zealots warned that its repeal would spell doom for a "free and open" internet. They could not have been more wrong. Net neutrality mania was so intense that one year ago FCC Chairman Ajit Pai had to cancel his appearance at the Consumer Electronics Show because of death threats he´d received. That was the same day the FCC published its final rule repealing "net neutrality." So-called experts predicted that removing this cumbersome Obama-era regulatory scheme — which granted the FCC virtually unchecked power

Radicalism: Some prominent Democrats are warning their party about its drift toward socialist policies and its endless attacks on President Trump. Is there anyone left in the Democratic Party who will listen? A few weeks ago, former California Gov. Jerry Brown said that he his party is out of touch with the mainstream, even in liberal California. On Thursday, Virginia Gov. Terry McAuliffe blasted members of his own party for making "unrealistic ideological promises." "Ideological populism or relentless negativity are playing on Trump´s turf," McAuliffe writes in an Op-Ed published by the Washington Post.

Big Government: Despite all the hand-wringing about a government shutdown, President Donald Trump still has a strong hand. The amount he´s asking for is a relative pittance. And the shutdown is exposing how useless much of the federal government is. Start with Trump´s demand for $5 billion to start construction on the border wall. That number might sound like a lot, but it is less than a rounding error in the federal government´s $4 trillion annual budget. It´s the equivalent of going less than three miles on a 2,802-mile cross-country trip.

Miracles: When it comes to Christmas miracles, few can match Apollo 8, which was in orbit around the moon 50 years ago today. It still ranks as the most impossibly ambitious and borderline reckless space voyage ever attempted — even counting Apollo 11. And for a moment, it brought humanity together in a way that had never happened before or, arguably, since. When President Kennedy, in a speech to Congress in May 1961, set the goal of landing a man on the moon, the U.S. hadn´t even managed to put a man in orbit around the earth.

The Miracle of $2 Gas Prices

Economics: What seemed like an impossibility just a few years ago is now a reality for many across the country: gasoline that costs less than $2 a gallon. It´s amazing for many reasons. USA Today reports that almost one in five gas stations in the country are charging less than $2 a gallon. As many as eight states could soon have an average price of under $2, the paper said, citing data from GasBuddy. The national average for gasoline last week was under $2.40, according to the Department of Energy. In the Midwest and the Gulf Coast,

Environmentalism: A new Census report shows that this year, the hottest states in the country had the biggest gains in population. Haven´t these people been listening to decades of warnings from climate change scientists about the myriad hazards of a warmer climate? Climate scientists have been endlessly shouting that a slightly warmer planet will unleash all sorts of terrible things — more heat-related deaths, more hurricanes and storms, more diseases, more drought and the like. Despite these admonitions, climate change never registers as a top concern among the public.

Economy: President Donald Trump signed his tax cuts into law one year ago this week. That means we´re going to hear a lot about how they fueled massive deficits and failed to boost economic growth. Neither are true, but that won´t stop Democrats and the press from repeating these falsehoods ad nauseam. To hear critics put it, the reforms to the individual income taxes — which lowered rates and expanded the standard deduction — and the much-needed cuts to the corporate income tax rate, were a bust. They didn´t help families. Didn´t boost corporate investment.

Elections: Democrats won control of the House largely by scaring the public about health care, and now they´re promising swift action on gun control. Guess what people say is the biggest problem facing the country. A Gallup Poll taken after the midterms finds that, according to those surveyed, the top problem facing the country is … government. You know, the government that Democrats want to vastly expand by socializing health care, providing free college, guaranteed government jobs, a "Green New Deal."

California: California´s business environment has gone from bad to worse, with thousands of businesses pulling up stakes and moving elsewhere. But don´t take our word for it. Just ask the 1,800 companies that either relocated or "disinvested" in the formerly Golden State in 2016. A new report from business-relocation expert Joe Vranich says that the business climate has gotten so bad that, for the first time ever, he is actively telling clients "to leave the business-hostile state because its business climate continues to worsen."

President Trump started a little slowly tonight, but picked up steam and finished very, very strong. He holds a winning hand: there is indeed a crisis at the Southern border. Illegal immigration is a huge problem. It is the number one reason why Trump is president, and the issue is stronger today than it was two years ago. Trump’s closing was very strong, talking about Americans who have been murdered and otherwise brutalized by illegal immigrants. Democrats are utterly unconcerned about this fundamental security issue, just as they are unconcerned about drugs and MS-13. The Democrats’ response was delivered

The American Psychological Association’s latest guidelines suggest parents are playing with fire when they instill boys with “traditional masculinity.” Turn off those iconic Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwarzenegger movies: researchers now say that “stoicism, competitiveness, dominance, and aggression — is, on the whole, harmful,” for boys and men. The “first-ever” guidelines are described on APA’s website as follows: “APA’s new Guidelines for Psychological Practice With Boys and Men strive to recognize and address these problems in boys and men while remaining sensitive to the field’s androcentric past. Thirteen years in the making, they draw on more than 40 years of research

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez claims she´s a college graduate, having earned an undergraduate degree from Boston University. Apparently, a basic understanding of how governments are structured around the world wasn´t a graduation requirement. In her recent 60 Minutes television interview, Anderson Cooper asked the newly elected House representative if her policies mirror the failed socialist regime of Venezuela. Laughing at the question, Ms. Ocasio-Cortez replied, "Of course not. What we have in mind and what my policies most closely resemble are what we see in the U.K., in Norway, in Finland, in Sweden." Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., argued that since Trump´s speech will be broadcast, the other side of the aisle should have their fair share of broadcast time, too. “Now that the television networks have decided to air the President’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately

MSNBC’s Trump-hating pundit Katy Tur claims it’s the conservative media — not President Trump’s base — that’s forcing him to follow through on his campaign promise to build a wall. “By now it is a cliché: Donald Trump has to build the wall,” Tur said. “Without it, his base will flee, and his 2020 prospects will be doomed. What promise is bigger than his promise to build the wall?” Tur then claimed that Trump supporters don’t care if the wall gets built. Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D., N.Y.) on Monday blasted multiple fact-checking media sources for their coverage of her statements, saying, "I say true things all the time." Ocasio-Cortez, who was sworn into office last Thursday, is evidently not happy about the scrutiny she´s received from fact-checkers. In a Twitter thread, she targeted the Washington Post and Politifact, saying "false equivalency [and] bias creeps in" with their fact checks. "For example, it looks like @PolitiFact has fact-checked Sarah Huckabee Sanders and myself the *same* amount of times: 6. She’s been serving for almost 2 years. I’ve served 4 days,"
