The interim CEO and president of USA Gymnastics, Mary Bono, has resigned just four days after she stepped into the role. “It is with profound regret, coupled with a deep love for the sport of gymnastics and respect for those who aspire to be great gymnasts, that I today tendered my resignation as the Interim CEO of USA Gymnastics,” said Bono in a statement. “My withdrawal comes in the wake of personal attacks that, left undefended, would have made my leading USAG a liability for the organization.” (Snip) In her resignation statement, Bono said she had taken issue with Nike’s use

It is my recommendation that no man or women get (Outside of USA Gymnastics) involved with the USA Gymnastics Teams.

The opportunity for a career ending Sexual Slander claim, or character defamation is to much of a risk.

Let the teams manage themselves, and any services they may need.

I believe Ms Biles should be the first to take this responsibility on for the USA Team.

Broward County’s ballot recount hit yet another snag Saturday with 2,040 ballots lost or misplaced. The county’s eternally beleaguered Supervisor of Elections Brenda Snipes said they were either misplaced, misfiled or mixed in with another stack. One thing she said she was sure of was that the ballots were still in the building. “The ballots are in this building. There would be nowhere else for them to be,” Snipes said. “The ballots are in the building. The ballots are in the building.” Snipes has been in the crosshairs of national controversy since Election Day. With a noon Sunday deadline looming,

A national logging organization is offering support to President Trump following catastrophic wildfires in California and a political debate over the causes of the destructive blazes. “President Trump blamed poor forest management for wildfires in California and throughout the West, and there is truth to statements he has made,” said Daniel Dructor, executive vice president of the American Loggers Council, a coalition of state and regional associations that represents independent contract loggers. “It’s time to rise above political posturing and recognize that active forest management — including logging, thinning, grazing and controlled burning — are tools that can and must

A top elections official in Florida who endured national humiliation after missing a midterms recount deadline by two minutes has told the Guardian that racism is “probably” a factor in the backlash against her. Brenda Snipes, elections supervisor of Broward county, was condemned by Republicans and Democrats after failing to submit tallies in the US Senate race between Rick Scott and Bill Nelson on schedule. (Snip) In a short interview, Snipes, 75, said: “You know, the protesters have been claiming stuff all week so whatever they’re doing, that’s what they’re doing. That’s what they feel like they need to do.”

Cervical cancer is treatable. Why are
women in Haiti still dying from it?
Miami Herald [FL], by Jacqueline Charles    Original Article

Mirebalais, Haiti — Cervical cancer is a disease that Haiti cannot afford. And in most cases, it’s a disease the country’s broken healthcare system cannot treat. There is just one MRI scanner in the entire country of 11 million people. Radiation treatment does not exist — for any kind of cancer — because there are no machines. Cancer screenings and early detection programs are limited, and so is access to lifesaving care. In a country already struggling to manage maternal deaths and childhood diseases that have been largely controlled in other parts of the world, cervical cancer is nearly always a death

Cape Town - A South African parliamentary team has recommended a constitutional amendment to make it possible for the state to expropriate land without compensation in the public interest. The Constitutional Review Committee said amending section 25 would make it explicitly clear that such expropriation could be carried out to accelerate land reform. "South Africans have spoken, loud and clear, and we listened to their cry," Lewis Nzimande, co-chairman of the review team, said in a statement on Thursday. "This has truly been a massive project. We have seen people queuing for long periods, just to make sure

Earlier this school year, a school district in Florida allowed a biological female student to access and use a middle school boys’ locker room without any notification or warning to the boys or their parents. Now, two PE teachers appear to have lost their jobs at the school for not being willing to supervise the female student while she was dressing and showering. According to a letter of complaint, written to Pasco County School District from Liberty Counsel (a pro-bono law firm committed to defending the constitution), the boys at Chasco Middle School were caught “(literally) with their pants down,

Facing $32 billion in needed repairs and an ongoing criminal investigation, the nation’s largest housing authority now confronts the very real possibility of the “R” word — receivership. This drastic remedy emerged in between the lines of Manhattan Federal Judge William Pauley III’s ruling Wednesday shooting down a proposed consent decree reached in June between NYCHA, Mayor de Blasio and federal prosecutors. That decree called for the appointment of a monitor whose job would be to ensure NYCHA was in compliance with laws requiring apartments to be safe and clean. At the time, prosecutors filed a damning complaint detailing years
