Ted Cruz gets good news from a new
Senate poll less than a month before election

Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz maintains a sizable lead in his re-election bid, a poll released Thursday shows. With less than a month until the Nov. 6 midterm election, Cruz holds a 9 percentage point lead — 54 to 45 percent, the same lead he held last month — over Democratic challenger U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke of El Paso among likely voters, according to a new Quinnipiac University poll. “Is the Beto bubble bursting or just hissing away with a slow leak?” asked Peter A. Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll.

Somebody is spending money out the wazoo to get Beto elected and he´s going nowhere. I hope we´ve seen the last of him but the delusional clowns never seem to go away, they just get more desperate with age. I give you It´s-my-Turn Hillary and Share-the-Wealth Bernie.

I have no reason to trust this poll more than any others. Sowing the seeds of complacency?

Anything less than a double digit butt kicking will be blared as a dim victory. Vote, Texans, vote.

And Ted Cruz is still going to run like it´s a two point race ... which could give him a double digit win.

If I still lived in Texas, I would vote for him. I would have to give him a piece of my mind about what a "donkey" he made of himself at the republican convention, but then I would vote for him.

When kids choose a profession, they tend to follow in their parents’ footsteps: Doctors’ children often become doctors, lawyers produce lawyers, and plumbers beget plumbers. So, after 15 years of covering crime and criminal justice for The New York Times, I was fascinated by studies—conducted in cities across the United States and in London, England, with near-identical results—showing that crime, too, can run in families. In the most famous study, researchers followed 411 boys from South London from 1961 to 2001 and found that half of the convicted kids were accounted

The question of how over 900 people came to kill themselves in the South American jungle animated the writing of Cult City: Jim Jones, Harvey Milk, and 10 Days That Shook San Francisco. But in trying to solve that puzzle another puzzle, well, puzzled. How did the victims go from “religious zealots” in the first draft of history to left-wing idealists in subsequent revisions? The drive to report the story first instead of right led to errors. Walter Cronkite labeled Peoples Temple as “fascist,” a New York Times article described Jim Jones’s preaching as “fundamentalist Christianity,” and the Associated Press

FORT WORTH Beto Burnout might be setting in. But not on stage. A wide-awake Democratic U.S. Rep. Beto O’Rourke rallied a three-fourths-full Ridglea Theater crowd early Saturday morning, emphasizing four words: “We vote on Monday.” On the eve of early voting in his 21-month, $61 million campaign for U.S. Senate, O’Rourke barely even alluded to incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz but campaigned hard against his familar targets: Texas voters’ cynicism and disillusionment. As national publications began speculating on a Beto 2020 presidential campaign — one headline reads “Beto O’Rourke Isn’t Running for Senate Anymore” —

Elizabeth Warren wants to be Native American. Robert Francis O’Rourke wants to be Latino. But they aren’t. And they’re being hoist on the left’s own petard. I’m a fan of cultural appropriation. I think it’s actually healthy for the dominant society to incorporate some aspects of other cultures. This makes us more diverse, more interesting, and more tolerant. But many on the left strongly disagree with me on this. They hate themselves for loving yoga, and don’t think two white women should be able to own a burrito cart in Portland. They are adamant about it.

In recent months, some reporters who cover the Trump White House have received phone calls from the last person they would expect: Hillary Clinton. The 2016 Democratic nominee has been rethinking her relationship with the press, among the many things she has been turning over—and over—in her head, acknowledging that her grouchy relationship with journalists was a problem. Now, she’s curious about the reporters covering Trump and has been putting out the occasional feeler. After President Donald Trump chastised ABC News’ Cecilia Vega at a news conference in the Rose Garden on Oct. 2—

Attention, journalists of America: Time is running out! You have under three weeks left to publish your last batch of over-the-top pre-election puff pieces on Texas Democrat/cross-country liberal sensation/wing-and-a-prayer Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke! It is here that we must face the difficult truth: Barring a GOP-related disaster of some sort, O’Rourke — he of that ineffable “cool factor” and “special sauce,” at least according to easily impressed columnists at the Washington Post — is likely to lose big. According to the latest polls, Senator Ted Cruz leads him by anywhere between seven and nine points.

Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D) seems headed for a loss against Ted Cruz in the Texas Senate race. A new Quinnipiac Poll has the Democrats’ latest love interest down 54 to 45 percent. The current Real Clear Politics average puts Cruz ahead by 6.6 percent. Beto has perhaps a 20 percent chance of victory a month from now. Texas again seems destined to disappoint the establishment media, which published scores of fawning love letters to #ElectoralJesus and his second coming of LBJ-style liberalism in the Lone Star State.(Snip for tweets)Why the shock? “Gosnell” is a difficult film to watch, not because of what appears on the screen—it’s rated PG-13—but because of what is left to the viewer’s imagination. This might explain why the theater where I caught the film Friday was mostly empty. But other explanations are worth considering. Kermit Gosnell, who was convicted of murder following a two-month trial in 2013, is currently serving a life sentence in prison with no possibility of parole. He was an abortion doctor based in Philadelphia, where state law prohibits the procedure beginning at 24 weeks gestational age.

Despite my best efforts, I know exactly what Texas Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke’s post-punk indie band from the mid-’90s sounds like (not as bad as you’d think!). At the same time, I don’t know much about Senate candidate Josh Hawley, who is 38 years old (meaning, around eight years younger than “rising star” Beto), the attorney general of Missouri, and the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate. In fact, Hawley’s name recognition outside of his state is probably negligible. When his name does come up in national political coverage, it’s mostly as a tack-on in pieces accessing opponent Claire McCaskill’s

It arrived in the afternoon in the city of Tapachula, more than 20 miles away. Every big U.S. election is interesting, but the coming midterms are fascinating for a reason most commentators forget to mention: The Democrats have no issues. The economy is booming and America’s international position is strong. In foreign affairs, the U.S. has remembered in the nick of time what Machiavelli advised princes five centuries ago: Don’t seek to be loved, seek to be feared. The contrast with the Obama years must be painful for any honest leftist.

The fact that Christine Blasey Ford’s lawyers refused to release the results of her polygraph exam until the day before her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee last month caused some suspicion. And when we finally got a look at them, a lot of Judge Kavanaugh’s supporters were confirmed in their suspicions. It turned out that Ford’s examiner, former FBI agent Jeremiah Hanafin, only asked her two relevant questions. And that’s not how most folks imagine polygraph exams are supposed to go.
