Hurricane Michael is so bad
that 18 Waffle Houses are closing

Fox News, by Staff

Waffle House restaurants don’t close unless absolutely necessary — so the shuttering of 18 Florida locations ahead of Hurricane Michael speaks volumes about the severity of the storm. “We have closed these restaurants yesterday so our employees can be safe as Hurricane Michael comes on shore,” Waffle House spokesperson Pat Warner confirmed to Fox News. “We have staged people and resources outside of the strike zone to come into the area after the storm passes. We will assess the damage and begin to reopen the restaurants as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The storm was over before the left had the chance to whine too much about it being the end of the world.

The good news is that this was a small, tight hurricane with comparatively little energy in total. Fast movement helped deprive it of the energy of the ocean as it moved inland, rapidly dissipated. News/weather media massively exaggerated the power and size.

Very damaging for a short distance, but within 12 hrs of landfall it was no longer a hurricane. Five hours after landfall, there was no rainfall at all more than 50 miles from the remains of the eye on the southern half of the storm.

Touted as "the most powerful storm ever to hit the mainland USA" by Bret Baier, which was ridiculous when he said it (repeatedly) and obvious by the very rapid breakup of the small, tight hurricane, not factual.

It is necessary to be realistic and accurate with the genuine weather threats. Exaggerating them is counterproductive, but seems to be the new normal in the Fake News world.

Checking Robert Mueller

Robert Mueller has operated for 19 months as a law unto himself, reminding us of the awesome and destructive powers of special counsels. About the only possible check on Mr. Mueller is a judge who is wise to the tricks of prosecutors and investigators. Good news: That’s what we got this week. Former national security adviser Mike Flynn a year ago pleaded guilty to one count of lying to the Federal Bureau of Investigation about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. Mr. Flynn’s defense team this week filed a sentencing memo to Judge Emmet Sullivan

Why We Need The Electoral College

The debate over the Electoral College comes up constantly during American elections, including the midterms last month, with many on the left calling for a popular vote instead. The process of electoral delegates voting for one particular party even if the popular vote of their state had only a slim majority makes the presidential elections seem generally unfair. Under the electoral system, lower-population states have outsized influence, higher-population states have somewhat limited influence, and swing states enjoy all the attention. With a popular vote, so the thinking goes, each citizen would have a voice, and the president and his administration

It was 20 years ago this month that the House of Representatives impeached President Bill Clinton. The vote took place December 19, 1998, with two of four articles approved by the House, the first on grounds that Clinton had lied to a grand jury (228-206), and the second on grounds that Clinton had obstructed justice (221-212). He became only the second president (the other in 1868) to be impeached. At the start of the year, January 17, 1998, Clinton had given a sworn deposition flatly denying a “sexual relationship,” “sexual affair,” or “sexual relations” with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.

The Chief Justice of California’s Supreme Court announced on Thursday that she had left the Republican Party following the confirmation of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. California Justice Tani Cantil-Sakauye told CALmatters that she had been deliberating her decision for a while but made up her mind after watching the backlash following multiple sexual assault allegations leveled against Kavanaugh. Christine Blasey Ford, a professor from Palo Alto, testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee in September, alleging that Kavanaugh assaulted her in the 1980s when they were both high school students.

President Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner is on the short list to become the next chief of staff, reports said. Kushner, a top White House adviser, met with the president about the job on Wednesday and believes his ability to work with Democrats will be an asset to the position, according to The Huffington Post. “I don’t know why he thinks that, when the Democrats are mainly going to be coming after Trump,” a source told the website. George Washington University Law Professor Jonathan Turley reacted to a Washington, D.C. federal judge ordering the Mueller team to surrender documents surrounding the questioning of former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, who ultimately was indicted on charges of lying to federal agents. Flynn said the FBI´s then-Deputy Director Andy McCabe suggested the Trump adviser not bring a lawyer to the questioning. Turley called the move by McCabe "highly irregular," and credited U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan´s decision, saying the Clinton appointee is a well-respected, "very good judge."

The Justice Department and FBI have missed a Wednesday deadline to provide information about the government´s mysterious raid on a former FBI contractor-turned-whistleblower´s home last month. Sixteen FBI agents on Nov. 19 raided the home of Dennis Nathan Cain, who reportedly gave the Justice Department´s Inspector General (IG) documents related to the Uranium One controversy and potential wrongdoing by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The documents in question allegedly showed that federal officials failed to investigate possible criminal activity related to Clinton, the Clinton Foundation and Rosatom, a Russian nuclear company. Its subsidiary purchased Canadian mining company Uranium One in 2013.

Concerted opposition to the independent judiciary has begun to percolate on the left with little scrutiny. Last week, Democratic National Committee Chairman Tom Perez, Hillary Clinton’s former spokesman Brian Fallon, and Democratic Rep. Ro Khanna rallied activists seeking to enervate judicial independence through proposals like court-packing and term limits for justices. Left-wing influencers like Democratic Rep.-Elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and attorney Michael Avenatti have endorsed the former proposition already. Progressive websites like Vox.com have repeatedly challenged the notion of judicial review. And dozens of leading lawyers on the left are organizing support for such ideas. The list goes on.

Of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s many targets, the most tragic may be former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn. The former three-star general pleaded guilty last year to a single count of lying to the FBI about conversations he had with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. Now we learn from Mr. Flynn’s court filing to the sentencing judge that senior bureau officials acted in a way to set him up for the fall. Not a rich man after decades in uniform, Mr. Flynn pleaded guilty to avoid bankruptcy and spare his son from becoming a legal target. Mr. Flynn’s filing

Palestinian Media Watch reports: Following a recent terror attack in which the terrorist stabbed and wounded 4 Israeli policemen, a host on official PA TV read a poem in the terrorist´s honor. The poem glorifies Martyrdom-death in battle and states that the 72 ‘Dark-Eyed’ Virgins in Paradise who the Martyr marries according to Islamic tradition, are ‘yearning’ for the Palestinian Martyr. Who are these “dark-eyed virgins in paradise” who are “yearning” for martyrs? The proper Arabic term for these entities is al-hour al-‘ayn, commonly known by the English transliteration as houris. They are supernatural, celestial women -- “wide-eyed”

There is so much wrong with Sports Illustrated’s decision to have Christine Blasey Ford present its 2018 Inspiration of the Year award, it is hard to know where to begin. For starters, there’s the issue that the magazine’s treatment of Ford is more befitting a celebrity athlete than a 52-year-old woman who alleges she was sexually assaulted nearly 40 years ago in high school. (tweet) Ford was not chosen for having any sort of meaningful affiliation with the award recipient, former gymnast Rachael Denhollander, whose testimony eventually led to the downfall of convicted sexual predator Larry Nassar.

Under the terms of the compromise announced Wednesday, members of Congress would be held personally liable for sexual harassment and retaliation settlements, requiring them to reimburse the Treasury. The Boy Scouts of America is mulling declaring bankruptcy amid flagging membership and an avalanche of costly sex abuse allegations, according to the Wall Street Journal. Leaders have hired Chicago law firm Sidley Austin for help in a potential Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, sources told the outlet. The organization has been fending off lawsuits over alleged abuse, including one filed by four former scouts who called the club a “pedophile magnet” and alleged that they were molested by scoutmaster Waldron Ackerman between 1974 and 1976. The organization has reportedly lost two-thirds of its members — some 4 million boys —

Another day, another avalanche of news about the President: berating Democratic leaders on camera; unceremoniously announcing the departure of his chief of staff; calling his former Secretary of State “dumb as a rock.” It never lets up. Trump is a ubiquitous, suffocating presence in American life. It wasn’t supposed to be like this. The modern presidency is the framers’ worst nightmare, a flatly unconstitutional concentration of power. As the Trump era has made abundantly clear, the office itself — its size, scope, and prominence in American life — is the driving force of dysfunction in our politics.

When Professor Christine Blasey-Ford testified against the Supreme Court nomination of then-Judge Bret Kavanaugh, my very first impression was that her voice sounded fake. She sounded like a scared little girl, her voice tremulous, creating an impression of sadness and vulnerability. The annual Christmas-season gathering was a significant perk for those covering the White House, as well as other Washington reporters, anchors and commentators, and New York media executives would regularly fly in for the occasion. At its peak, the invitation-only soirees grew so large that there were two back-to-back events, one for broadcast outlets and one for print organizations.
