Hurricane Michael is so bad
that 18 Waffle Houses are closing

Fox News, by Staff

Waffle House restaurants don’t close unless absolutely necessary — so the shuttering of 18 Florida locations ahead of Hurricane Michael speaks volumes about the severity of the storm. “We have closed these restaurants yesterday so our employees can be safe as Hurricane Michael comes on shore,” Waffle House spokesperson Pat Warner confirmed to Fox News. “We have staged people and resources outside of the strike zone to come into the area after the storm passes. We will assess the damage and begin to reopen the restaurants as soon as it is safe to do so.”

The storm was over before the left had the chance to whine too much about it being the end of the world.

The good news is that this was a small, tight hurricane with comparatively little energy in total. Fast movement helped deprive it of the energy of the ocean as it moved inland, rapidly dissipated. News/weather media massively exaggerated the power and size.

Very damaging for a short distance, but within 12 hrs of landfall it was no longer a hurricane. Five hours after landfall, there was no rainfall at all more than 50 miles from the remains of the eye on the southern half of the storm.

Touted as "the most powerful storm ever to hit the mainland USA" by Bret Baier, which was ridiculous when he said it (repeatedly) and obvious by the very rapid breakup of the small, tight hurricane, not factual.

It is necessary to be realistic and accurate with the genuine weather threats. Exaggerating them is counterproductive, but seems to be the new normal in the Fake News world.

October surprise? 5 things

From the growing caravan of migrants making its way toward America´s southern border to a pledge of new tax cuts for middle-income Americans, the midterm season could yet hold a few twists and turns between now and Election Day. The Nov. 6 elections are widely seen as a referendum on the Trump administration and Republican policies pushed in the past two years. Democrats hope to take control of the House and Senate, where Republicans hold a narrow lead. But a series of developments could tilt the final outcome. Thousands of migrants are heading to the U.S. border seeking asylum,

The current lawsuit challenging Harvard University’s use of racial preferences in admissions is about “white supremacy,” according to the school’s supporters. So, too, was the defense of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh against the charge of sexual assault, according to Kavanaugh’s critics. Never mind that the plaintiffs in the Harvard lawsuit are Asian-American students who were denied admission to the school despite academic qualifications superior to those of whites, and that Kavanaugh’s accuser was white herself. The roiling mass of resentments and one-upmanship that is identity politics is becoming ever more irrational in the Trump era.

The Washington Post is indignant that “hard-line Republicans and conservative commentators are mounting a whispering campaign against Jamal Khashoggi,” supposedly in order to “protect President Trump from criticism of his handling of the dissident journalist’s alleged murder by operatives of Saudi Arabia.” The Post hits these “hardliners” for highlighting Khashoggi’s ties to the Muslim Brotherhood, and claims that “while Khashoggi was once sympathetic to Islamist movements, he moved toward a more liberal, secular point of view.”

Perhaps the best argument I have seen in favor of repealing President Trump´s pointless tax cuts is the superabundance of disposable income American liberals apparently spend on things like Robert Mueller bobble-head dolls, "Mueller is Coming" and "It´s Mueller time" T-shirts, Mueller "prayer" candles, and even children´s books featuring a super-buff bare-chested but tie-wearing Mueller lookalike hero. WHILE ELECTION DAY IS still just over two weeks away, more than 5 million people have already cast ballots in this year´s midterm general election, with a number of states experiencing record levels of early voting. In Indiana, home to one of the most crucial U.S. Senate contests in the country, residents in centrally located Hamilton County are casting ballots at a rate equal to the 2016 presidential election. In Minnesota, which is hosting a trio of competitive U.S. House races, early voting statewide has thus far surpassed ballots returned in 2016. And in Georgia, which is featuring

When President Trump eviscerated the NFL and its players who protest during the national anthem at a rally in Huntsville, Ala., last year, the debate surrounding the controversial demonstrations roared back to life. Fueling the outrage: Russian trolls on Twitter . In the wake of Trump’s Sept. 22, 2017, speech, tweets about the NFL and the national anthem surged from accounts linked to the Internet Research Agency, the Russian and Kremlin-backed company accused of attempting to sow discord in the U.S.

With all the books about President Trump, one mystery has been ignored. How did this supposed clown manage not only to learn Ronald Reagan’s economic formula but also carry it to the next level? Bob Woodward has sketched a White House ruled by fear. Omarosa Manigault Newman has written a yarn about a president “unhinged.” Michael Wolff has penned a picture of “fire and fury.” Yet none has even tried to address the elephant in the room — how Trump built the platform of economic growth and jobs that managed to crack the Democrats’ presidential-election “Blue Wall” and leave our newscasters agape.

Emmanuel Macron, the youthful and ambitious president of the French, likes to talk about African birthrates. In the summer of 2017, he answered a question about why there couldn’t be a Marshall Plan for Africa by calling the continent’s problems “civilizational,” and lamenting that African countries “have seven or eight children per woman.” This was attacked by some as racist, defended by others as hardheaded realism about development economics. Macron obviously felt comfortable with what he’d said, because he returned to the idea last month at a Gates Foundation conference.

Hillary Clinton no longer has a security clearance. A letter released from the Department of State to Senator Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, says she lost her clearance on August 30 at her request. The State Department also withdrew security clearances from five people Clinton had previously requested clearances for, as she had designated them “researchers.” One was Cheryl Mills, who was once the deputy White House counsel for President Bill Clinton who defended him during his 1999 impeachment trial. The names of the others were redacted. The mainstream media is treating the loss of these clearances as a move

Something has happened to the Democratic Party, something dramatic and awful. It wasn’t that long ago that the Democratic Party liked the United States, and its members weren’t afraid to say it. Now saying positive things about the country will get you run out of the party and possibly attacked by a mob. Their media minions will cheer it all. And, if things go as expected next month, these people could retake the House of Representatives. These people in power should scare everyone. There is nothing they won’t do to win,

It arrived in the afternoon in the city of Tapachula, more than 20 miles away. Sen. Cory Booker announced a new bill Monday that would establish a taxpayer-funded savings account for every American at birth. “Today, nearly one in three American families have zero to negative wealth, and it’s hard to get ahead if you begin life behind the starting line,” said Mr. Booker, New Jersey Democrat. The “American Opportunity Account Act” would essentially create a trust fund for every U.S. citizen born in the U.S. After age 18, the money can be accessed but only used for certain “human and financial capital investments” like buying a house or paying for higher education.

This caravan through Mexico has turned into ridiculous political theater for both sides as passion-fanning optics take precedence over safety and systems. We know that another large caravan of mostly undocumented Latin Americans is making its way from El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala through Mexico, but why are they on the march? Some are coming to participate in our booming economy and tight labor market, because fewer jobs mean higher wages. Others suffer from migratory fomo and are literally jumping on the band wagon because it´s getting a lot of traction and attention, while others are fleeing
