Social Security checks to rise?
A look at past adjustments

Fox Business, by Brittany De Lea

The Social Security Administration will tell retirees on Thursday how much of a bump to expect in their checks next year, and some experts project it could be the biggest in years. The Senior Citizens League, a nonpartisan senior advocacy organization, forecasts benefits will jump by 2.8 percent in 2019 – which would be the largest increase in seven years. That is slightly down from the group’s previous forecast of 3 percent, but would still boost the average beneficiary’s check by $39 per month – and raise the current maximum benefit collected by someone who retires at full retirement age

I have aid into Socialism Security to buy Democart votes since I was age 12. I still have a lot of years to go until I get ´full´ benifits at retirement. And sure, it will not be whan I turn 65. I do know, uess I live to be about 112 years of age, I will have paid more into socialism Security than I will have recieved. Its nothing more than a Ponzi scheme and it is no comfort to me to kow that my retirement 401k will be far more important to me than the moeny I put into socialism security as a 12 year old. An increase to today´s socialism secuity recipents means less oney for me even though I still pay into it. ´m F......

But, will We earn $15 an hour ?

For years they have said SS would run out of money. So what did Zippy do? Give it to people who never put a dime into it and call it an entitlement.

For the younger people who say older people should have saved and put money in retirement funds. First, for the oldest, those things weren´t available. Second, a major illness will wipe out everything you own and then some.

$39 a month. It´s something, not much, but more than "THE MAGIC ONE" allowed, except for himself.
I began drawing it when I was 69. I get a bit more than the 100%, it helps. I did some figuring once, I have to live until 87 to break even. Meaning I´ve gotten back dollar for dollar everything I´ve put in. I´m not counting for inflation, if I did, I´d never get even.

I am like most of you who feel that whatever increase we get in SS, will be eaten up in Medicare premiums. I have been blessed not to need to use Medicare yet and it makes me mad that Blue Criss keeps calling about doing a home health care visit. What I don´t understand is, if I am not using Medicare, why do my premiums keep going up. There should be some incentive not to abuse it.

Now if they REALLY want to help seniors they would NOT TAX their SS. It was taxed before they took it out, why do they tax it a second time? And if you have yet to receive yours, and for some reason people seem to know nothing about it until their time comes, you are taxed by the Feds and the State (if your State has taxes).

While your point about #7´s post is taken, #18, "savings" and investment have always been available, even if only cash stuffed under the mattress or the cookie jar. And with the value of money on a specie standard, inflation was generally not a huge threat. I knew more than one that socked cash away for their "rainy day" or future. They made do on working class peanuts.

What must also be remembered is that at one time "retirement" was a family affair, with the eldest son often moving into the "homestead" while the elderly parents took the second bedroom, or attic. Meals were shared; generations grew together. The kids took responsibility for the welfare of their parents. And death came at home without expensive care. Different world.

A 2.8% increase doesn´t sound like much, and I hear a lot of sneering, but I could use an extra 50 clams paid to me monthly from a "plan" (i.e. a Ponzi scheme) to which I was forced to "contribute" for my entire working life.

So many euphemisms, so little time -- but We never had any choice in the matter. When Ronald Reagan proposed some much-needed changes to Social Security (which were partially implemented, thank heavens), Teddy the "Lion of the Senate" Kennedy and the Tip "the Tippler" O´Neill howled in the Congress.

As usual, President Reagan was right, and America is still trying to shake off the hangover that Teddy and Tipple left us.
